Patriots won the Super Bowl...in Nicaragua
Hundreds of shirts and caps, which had been manufactured in advance to celebrate the Patriots' expected victory over the New York Giants, have ended up in the hands of poor Nicaraguan children.
No word on whether or not Bill Belichick helped hand out the shirts, or just walked away from the children in disgust 45 seconds before the job was finished. Goodel admits Pats taped illegally since 2000
In his interview with Arlen Specter Goodel admitted that Bill Bellichick has been videotaping defensive signals since he took over as head coach of the patriots in 2000. This contradicts other statements by Goodel, and throws into a harsh the penalty levied by the NFL which was aware of the full extent of the violation when it issued a 500,000 and one draft pick fine against the Patriots. Also called into question is the destruction of the Patriots notes and illicit videotaped destroyed in the investigation. Goodel did not release the extent of the violations and destroyed all evidence into the matter, so had he not been pressed by Arlen Specter it is likely we would never have learned about the extent of the violations. Spector has yet to speak to Mat Walsh a Patriots video tech who was accused of taping the walk through for the Rams before the Superbowl in 2002 where the Patriots were two touchdown underdogs. From Yahoo News.
illegally
Here is my take. Many league coaches thought that the penalty wasn't stiff enough when there was only one in game violation. With seven years of verified abuse and an admonition of guilt by Bellichick it is hard to assume that those same coaches would believe that the fine and penalty were enough. The Patriots still have a first round draft pick and have been given a favorable schedule by the NFL as a result of their super bowl season. I think that more action is needed and that the NFL' conduct in this manner needs to be investigated. There does appear to be league Bias. The extent of the cheating was quite severe and because it was a team that had three super bowl titles and therefore should have been held to more scrutiny and not less for their actions. Each of those titles came in three point margins of victory. To assume that having foreknowledge of the defense couldn't give the Patriots that three point margin is ridiculous. This is a shame and the fact that the league was willing to stay silent about the extent of the abuse makes them complicit. In his interview with Arlen Specter Goodel admitted that Bill Bellichick has been videotaping defensive signals since he took over as... more -
More sports for Congress
Apparently the normal business of running the country isn't exciting enough, so Congress is once again veering into professional sports to stay busy. Senator Arlen Specter is pretty pissed that the NFL destroyed the spy tapes made by the New England Patriots, and has also indicated that the practice began as soon as coach Bill Belichick took over in 2000. So yes, that includes their championship winning years of '02, '03, and '05. But, since the tapes are goners, doesn't seem there's much of a way to prove that. Convenient. Giants Win The Super Bowl
The New York Giants used a dramatic finish to defeat the New England Patriots 17-14 tonight upending their quest at the perfect season.
For a moment, it looked like Tom Brady and the Pats were once again the victors as he drove his for what looked to be the winning drive with 2:30 minutes remaining. The Giants, however, would not let up.
Eli Manning, who for years has been defined as not "winning the big game", came through with an 80 yard drive in the closing minutes. The drive will always be remembered for Eli Manning getting away from 3 Pats defenders and completing a pass that was hauled in by a Giants receiver. The winning catch was caught by Plaxico Burress.
The Giants came in as 12.5 point underdogs and walk away from Phoenix as Super Bowl champions.

History Vs. Destiny: Giants Will Beat Patriots in SuperBowl XLII
2007-2008 NFL Season: Déjà Vu All Over Again
Lawrence Tynes overtime field goal in the 2008 NFC Championship against the Green Bay Packers marked the 17th anniversary of former Giant Kicker Matt Bahr's heroic boot that sent the 1990 San Francisco 49ers home and the NY Football Giants to Superbowl XXV. It was Tynes fifth field goal attempt. He missed two fourth quarter attempts (36 and 43 yards). Bahr also kicked five field goals against the 49ers, in what remains the only NFC Championship game without a touchdown. The similarities don't end there. The NFL Commissioners' office has decided to destroy the infamous spy gate tapes that would tarnish the Patriot's cleanly played road to perfection...
So why is Arlen Specter the only one concerned for the integrity of the game?

Broken Brady?
Tom Brady was seen limping (sort of) and wearing a walking cast on his right foot on his way in to girlfriend Gisele Bundchen's NYC apartment yesterday (how sweet that he was bringing flowers!). Brady was sacked twice in the Patriot's AFC Championship 21-12 win over the San Diego Chargers and had a "sub-par" game (at least for him), with 22-32 completions and 2 interceptions. Asked on a talk show yesterday about docs checking his leg early in the 4th quarter of that game, Brady said that he was a little nicked up, but that it was nothing serious and that he'd be ready for the Superbowl on February 3rd. I hope he's right - it would be a shame to have had the season he did and not be able to give his best show at the biggest game of the year. NFL Network gives Patriot fans a belated Christmas present
Saturday night's game between New England and the New York Giants on the NFL Network, which is available in fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes with TVs, will be simulcast on CBS and NBC. After weeks of insisting they wouldn't cave in, NFL officials did just that Wednesday. Now all of America can see the Patriots' shot at history.
The Patriots could become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season.

Crowd Noise? Don't know Nothing about That.
Apparently, professional sports teams will find anyway to gain the upperhand on the competition. During Sundays game between the Colts and the Patriots, it seemed louder than normal on the field. Too many fans? Maybe. Good acoustics? Maybe. Or maybe the Colts were increasing the noise with prerecorded crowd noise pumped through the stadium speakers. Reports from the field said that it was extremely hard to hear during the Patriots offensive drives. Also important are the numerous pass interference calls against the patriots. Considering that the Patriots were scoring on average at least 35 points per game previous to the Colts, it was no small shock that they were held to only 24 points as well as the fact that they did not score on their opening drive. After surviving the Spycam controversy the Patriots are on the lookout for illegal practices in all their games it seems. With the reputation of professional sports on the line, the sportsmanship of each team will be tested. But will a team go so far as to hurt their own performance in order to stay true to the game? Probably not. Apparently, professional sports teams will find anyway to gain the upperhand on the competition. During Sundays game between the Colts... more

Football Showdown Sunday!
This is the game that all football fans have been waiting for all season long. It's been marketed as Super Bowl XLII and a half but, will it live up to the hype?
These are two of the best teams, two of the best quaterbacks, balanced offense and tight defense on both sides. This has the potential for a classic matchup for the ages, Achillies vs. Hector pales in comparison but, that may be the problem. Like most Super Bowls in the past they never seem to have delivered an exciting game and in the end tend to be more flash than substance, a lot of overhyped expectation hidden behind a flashy display of halftime shows and fireworks. I may sound like a naysayer but I've had my delicate football heart broken many times before but even so, I'll still be watching along with millions of other NFL fans. The game will be available to 94 percent of the country and according to the league spokesman Seth Palansky "The regular-season game average for an Sunday NFL game was 16.3 million last year". Palansky said, "This game is likely to come in around double the average. The Patriots-Colts telecast will be a rematch of last season's AFC Championship Game, which the Colts won 38-34 and which drew a TV audience of 46.7 million and this game should beat those numbers.
Over hyped as it may be, I'm still watching and hoping for a good game as I brace my fragile football heart for the worst.
