Clippers reach verbal agreement to sign Baron Davis - 5 years/ $65-Million
I guess B-Dizzle doesn't believe anymore. Sorry, Warriors fans but you had to know this was coming when he opted out of his deal. The chance to go home and play in LA with Elton Brand & the rest of the up & coming Clips was just too strong to pass up.
"Baron Davis' agent, Todd Ramasar, told The Times that they have a verbal agreement to sign with the Clippers."
Davis, a former All-Star point guard, is expected to sign a contract in the five-year, $65-million range.
"From a basketball standpoint it's always been about winning for Baron," Ramasar said. "This presented a good opportunity to do that to pair him with Chris Kaman and Elton Brand is expected back." I guess B-Dizzle doesn't believe anymore. Sorry, Warriors fans but you had to know this was coming when he opted out of his deal. The ... more -

FlipCam video of Mighty Mic Event at UCLA - May 29, 2008
The Mighty Mic event was a huge success in terms of getting positive publicity for Current TV and Current.com. Danny worked like crazy. Me, Tania and Kevin Ung manned the table and gave out 200 T-shirts, as well as buttons and brochures. The entire time we were there, our booth was thronged with people signing up on Current.com to get a free T-shirt. When the server connection finally pooped out, we continued to get people to sign up on paper and then Tania completed the sign up process for them later.
Laura Ling spoke to a packed crowd in the middle of the evening. She showed the pod From Russia with Hate on the gianormous screen. Other pods also played throughout the evening, but this one especially had a riveted audience watching in the huge, darkened ballroom.
All in all it was a solid success. I personally hope Current TV chooses to stay involved and promoting itself at UCLA, because not many people knew about Current. But those that did, invariably said, "Oh! I love Current TV!"

Clothesline Project -- airing dirty laundry, ending secrets
For the past 12 years, every spring a group of students come together to assemble the Clothesline Project at UCLA. The shirts are made by the survivors of sexual violence, rape and childhood sexual abuse. Friends and relatives of those who died also can make a shirt. The resulting clothesline is a powerful testament to the enormity of loss and pain. It's a healing process too.

It's final exams week and college students are desperate to cram. They turn to their friends who have access to prescription drugs, like Adderall for attention deficit disorder. Drugs like these are being increasingly used as study drugs at colleges everywhere. At UCLA, it seems like almost everyone has tried it or heard about it. Some students casually distribute their pills to friends. In this pod, students share their experiences and a UCLA psychiatrist tells us why the overuse of these drugs is a problem, whether or not they are prescribed by a medical doctor. Mighty Mic Concert to End Genocide
A 9-day multi-event human rights gathering will be held May 20 – 29th of 2008 on the UCLA campus. The events will consist of a Genocide Awareness Week to occur between May 20 – May 29, and the Mighty Mic Human Rights Awareness Concert to Save Darfur in Ackerman Grand Ballroom on the evening of May 29th, 2008. We feel that this date is significant as this year will see the 60th Anniversary of the Raphael Lemkin’s 1948 Genocide Convention, where the world first proclaimed its opposition to genocide and ethnic cleansing at the international level.
The Mighty Mic Human Rights Awareness Concert and Genocide Awareness Week will consist of events that raise awareness about genocides past and present while celebrating the courage and perseverance of genocide survivors and emphasizing the importance of ending the ongoing genocide in Darfur. A 9-day multi-event human rights gathering will be held May 20 – 29th of 2008 on the UCLA campus. The events will consist of a Genocid... more -

An Evening with Albert Maysles at UCLA Hammer Museum
Hammer Screenings
Thursday Apr 10
7pm
An Evening with Albert Maysles
One of America’s foremost non-fiction filmmakers, Albert Maysles who along with his brother David (1932–1987) is recognized as a pioneer of “direct cinema,” the distinctly American version of French “cinema verité.” Their seminal early films Salesman (1968), Gimme Shelter (1970), and Grey Gardens (1976) became cult classics and are still finding new rapturous audiences. On the occasion of the publication of A Maysles Scrapbook: Photographs/Cinemagraphs/Documents, Maysles screens selections from filmed portraits of Orson Welles, Marlon Brando, and Truman Capote, and takes audience questions.
Organized in association with Los Angeles Art Weekend.

Love & Collison are going pro
Pac 10 Player of the Year and should be first team All American Kevin Love and star point guard Darren Collison are reportedly going to enter into the upcoming NBA draft. A big relief to 9 Pac 10 teams.
Love's absence combined with the lo-pro bros leaving the trees to go play tarzan with the big boys takes about 20 feet of solid post play out of the Pac 10 for next season. Coming back next year are Washington twins towers (wallace and brockman) and the new best center in the conference Aron Baynes of Washington State. Unless I'm missing something. Let me know.
