Nintendo team up with KORG
Nintendo are certainly no strangers to seeing their consoles reinvented and fashioned into musical instruments,, from the SNES version of Mario Paint (which featured a composer function) to 'blipcore' made from sampling converted Game Boys.
So, they've obviously put two and two together, and have announced the company has linked with Korg, purveyors of electronic synths and general production lovliness, to create the DS-10 Synthesizer. A beat-making
Check what the UK press release had to say:
"As you compose, work your way around the synthesizer using the replication of the original KORG MS-10 interface spread across the duel screens of the Nintendo DS. Create the sound of your choice using the Touch Screen: through switching interruptors; modifying drumbeats by drawing marks; or editing the synthesizer tone colour by tweaking knobs and connecting patch cables between the jacks on the Synthesizer Patch Panel, With the ability to save up to 18 different sessions, continue to develop and build electro tunes over time and even connect to fellow musicians' consoles through the wireless connection function to work on a project together."

Convolution: the art of impulse responses

Timbaland's travelling tunes
The producer is to follow up the audacious 'Shock Value' by creating a 'mobile album': throughout 2008, the maestro will tour the US, crafting a new song every month in collaboration with a different artist. He stated, 'I'm the first to ever do it'. Within days of its completion, each tune will become available as a download, ringtone, and ringback (whatever that is) via V Cast and Verizon. Then, at the end of the year, Verizon will release a compilation of all the tracks in some form or another. The first song from the project, which features Timbaland protégé Keri Hilson, debuted at a pre-Grammy party on Friday. An exciting new direction for music production? Music software Ableton 7 hits the big time
Users of the popular sequencing software Ableton Live will notice some big changes in it's latest version Live 7. Like big hitters Cubase and Logic, Live 7 has been designed to utilise 64 bit processing technology (That's top end professional computers like a Mac Pro) as well as being able to run on consumer desktop and laptops. Whilst still being the number one application for live artists and DJ's it is now breaking on the top end level of production.
New features include a greater level of virtual instruments like drum kits, analog synthesisers and piano's. It also can now boast a vast sample library as well as reaching a higher level of audio fidelity.
Ableton is a fantastically intuitive tool for making music however we will see whether fans of its lo-fi geeky image will fall for its newer snazzier version. I personally can't wait to get a copy but will probably need to upgrade my computer first...
