    • Nintendo team up with KORG

Nintendo are certainly no strangers to seeing their consoles reinvented and fashioned into musical instruments,, from the SNES version of Mario Paint (which featured a composer function) to 'blipcore' made from sampling converted Game Boys.

So, they've obviously put two and two together, and have announced the company has linked with Korg, purveyors of electronic synths and general production lovliness, to create the DS-10 Synthesizer. A beat-making

Check what the UK press release had to say:
"As you compose, work your way around the synthesizer using the replication of the original KORG MS-10 interface spread across the duel screens of the Nintendo DS. Create the sound of your choice using the Touch Screen: through switching interruptors; modifying drumbeats by drawing marks; or editing the synthesizer tone colour by tweaking knobs and connecting patch cables between the jacks on the Synthesizer Patch Panel, With the ability to save up to 18 different sessions, continue to develop and build electro tunes over time and even connect to fellow musicians' consoles through the wireless connection function to work on a project together."

I'm tempted to get a DS just so I can make tunes on my way to work.

    • Convolution: the art of impulse responses

This pod details the use of the emerging technology known as Convolution. In game audio and music production, impulses are captured from real world places and gear, and can then be used as effects. Imagine being able to record a vocal track in your closet, and then have it sound like it was recorded in a real Cathedral, all by the use of one effect unit.

Recorded at Electronic Arts in Redwood City, Marielle Jakobsons is a sound designer for the Sims. She recollects on her experiences with Convolution, and how this emerging technology is shaping the way we interact with audio, both as engineers, and as gamers.

    • Life In Music V-Cast Episode 14 / Grammy nominated pianist Hector Martignon

Why is this interesting? Grammy nominated Hector Martignon is one of the most amazing piano players in New York City, and one of the leading pianists in the world. Hector is a great friend, down to earth human being, and an amazing musician. That's why I think this makes for an interesting video.

      Thanks!

    • David Byrne's survival strategies for emerging artists — and megastars

What is called the music business today, however, is not the business of producing music. At some point it became the business of selling CDs in plastic cases, and that business will soon be over. But that's not bad news for music, and it's certainly not bad news for musicians. Indeed, with all the ways to reach an audience, there have never been more opportunities for artists. What is called the music business today, however, is not the business of producing music. • The Age of Aquarius - Hair

My GOD, I must have watched this movie "zillions of times" when I was a teen. I even gathered groups of friends to go again and again to the movies. This is indeed a vision for the future. This vision should be for Today if those that are screwing up our Past and our Today would care about learning something in life.

...and this is ladies and gentlemans and any anything you want to be, a master piece of theater and music. Thanks for the geniuses of theater, film and music production.

    • Timbaland's travelling tunes

The producer is to follow up the audacious 'Shock Value' by creating a 'mobile album': throughout 2008, the maestro will tour the US, crafting a new song every month in collaboration with a different artist. He stated, 'I'm the first to ever do it'. Within days of its completion, each tune will become available as a download, ringtone, and ringback (whatever that is) via V Cast and Verizon. Then, at the end of the year, Verizon will release a compilation of all the tracks in some form or another. The first song from the project, which features Timbaland protégé Keri Hilson, debuted at a pre-Grammy party on Friday. An exciting new direction for music production? Or just a disturbing Henry Ford approach to manufacturing tunes? The producer is to follow up the audacious 'Shock Value' by creating a 'mobile album': throughout 2008, the maest... more

    • Another New DJing Revolution

Digital DJ Workstations are changing the way DJs will play music. These machines have the mixer and two wheels for scratching all built right in. And yes, they work.

here's the VCI-300 from Serato and Vestax

      here's the B-52 Prodigy FX

I had the pleasure of using the Prodigy and was instantly sold on the idea of the all-in-one Console. And yes, you can scratch with it.

So anyone who was contemplating a DVS system might want to wait and give it a little thought.

    • Music software Ableton 7 hits the big time

Users of the popular sequencing software Ableton Live will notice some big changes in it's latest version Live 7. Like big hitters Cubase and Logic, Live 7 has been designed to utilise 64 bit processing technology (That's top end professional computers like a Mac Pro) as well as being able to run on consumer desktop and laptops. Whilst still being the number one application for live artists and DJ's it is now breaking on the top end level of production.

New features include a greater level of virtual instruments like drum kits, analog synthesisers and piano's. It also can now boast a vast sample library as well as reaching a higher level of audio fidelity.

Ableton is a fantastically intuitive tool for making music however we will see whether fans of its lo-fi geeky image will fall for its newer snazzier version. I personally can't wait to get a copy but will probably need to upgrade my computer first...
