Surfers in swimming designated areas to face Asbo
Lifeguards at Sennen Beach, near Land’s End in Cornwall, have turned to police for help in curbing the actions of surfers who refuse to abide by the rules.
Officers are now considering sending a community support officer to patrol the beach, and have even raised the possibility of taking persistent offenders to court to issue them with an Asbo. UK cop partied at carnival dressed as Osama
Now I'm no genius, but surely he must've realised this was always gonna end in tears.
A senior UK police officer has been 'condemned as "unacceptable" by his own force' after he turned up to a local festival dressed as al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission are reportedly looking into the incident and unsurprisingly Devon and Cornwall Police have said they are also investigating. Now I'm no genius, but surely he must've realised this was always gonna end in tears. ... more -

Double gay suicide draws attention to plight of young LGBT adults
Two young gay men, Daniel Cudd, 23, and Roger Irons, 21, were found hanged in apparently separate incidents in Falmouth, Cornwall.
The Intercom Trust, which provides support to LGBT people experiencing homophobia across the South West peninsula, say that the suicides should inspire a reassessment of the UK's diversity policies.
Andy Hunt, project manager for the Helpline and Advocacy project at Intercom Trust, said:
“Young queers in Cornwall regularly tell our helpline that their local school, or their mates, can be very hostile, or just horribly ignorant about these things. They say it’s very difficult to get access to sensible useful information, or to find out about where they can turn for information and help when they need it. Schools and other mainstream agencies need to get the relevant information out there for their LGBT service-users, and make skilled support available. Above all they need to challenge the stigmas and the silly myths around the perfectly normal fact that some people in Cornwall do naturally grow up gay, lesbian or bisexual, and have a right to be respected on a level of absolute equality with their peers.” Two young gay men, Daniel Cudd, 23, and Roger Irons, 21, were found hanged in apparently separate incidents in Falmouth, Cornwall. ... more -

£7 million worth of cocaine washes up on Cornish beaches
Habitual beachcombers have come across £7 million worth of cocaine on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall in the last few weeks. The packages are thought to have floated up from the Caribbean, some of the packages are marked "Colombia", but how they ended up in the sea remains a puzzle for officials.
"The age of the packages, and the presence of warm water-loving barnacles suggests they may be floating all the way across the Atlantic from the Caribbean. One theory is that smugglers dumped the cocaine overboard as they were pursued by American or British anti-drug patrols."
Not surprisingly, police are worried that other packages may be heading to the UK, or may have already arrived, and could fall into the wrong hands. Habitual beachcombers have come across £7 million worth of cocaine on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall in the last few weeks. The pack... more -

World record goes to Cornish 'Thresh'erman
A world record shark has been accidentally caught off the coast of Cornwall by local fishermen, Roger Nowell and Joe Crowe.
Originally fishing for squid, the thresher shark came as a bit of a shock for the fishermen as they brought in their record 1,124lb catch, which not only surprised the crew but also the ship's hydraulics which suffered over £500 of damage.
Dad-of-three Roger, 41, said: "We bought the net up. There were no squid but this massive shark - it was the biggest one I'd ever seen."
The shark was sold on to a local merchant who paid over £250 for the monster fish caught 3 miles off Lands End, he plans to sell the thresher shark to wholesalers, who will carve it up for some lucky local fish eaters.
