    • 1st v. 2nd Generation Parental Relations

My mother is a 1st generation Italian American. Her having immigrants as parents I think is one main difference between my Mothers relationship with her parents and my relationship with mine. She encountered a lot of hurdles having non-english speaking parents, and parents that came from a different cultural background.
Her parents has much different expectations of her than mine do of me. Her parents expected her to get married early in life, where as mine want me to focus on education. Her parents wanted her to focus on providing financially for a family, where as mine are concerned more with self fulfillment and overall happiness.
Because of these differences in expectations, I think my parents were forced to mature a lot more quickly than I. When my parents were my age they were already married, owned a home and on their way to having their first child. They shared a joint checking account through high school and it was considered normal to do so. Today, something like that would be considered very abnormal.

    • How to deal with learning disabilities in basic writing skills

Writing provides us with the ability to express information to the world around us. Notes to a friend, reminders, lists, and many employment tasks may be impossible for many people with a learning disability in basic writing. It is often felt that children with LD's in basic writing skills lack the general ability to learn or are suffering from a low IQ. This is far from the truth. Students with writing disabilities are just as intelligent as or more intelligent than their peers. It is not that the child is lacking knowledge. He or she is merely unable to show their level of comprehension in the standard method. See link for more... http://www.helium.com/tm/529902/writing-provides-abilit... • What are learning disabilities (LDs)?

Often mistaken as a low intelligence level, a learning disability is when damage to the brain prevents someone from absorbing or demonstrating knowledge in speaking, writing, reading, math, or fine motor skills. It is not that the child is stupid or is incapable of learning, but rather how he or she learns or how information is transferred from the brain to someone else. Because learning disabilities can have a wide range of symptoms, it makes it hard to diagnose and is often misdiagnosed. If left untreated, the effects of a learning disability are not limited to school age children. Learning disabilities will limit the success and choices that a child will have as an adult. Learning disabilities can be categorized into three main areas. see link for more... http://www.helium.com/tm/525969/often-mistaken-intellig... • How to prevent learning disabilities

Although a wide variety of research has been conducted, there has not been one particular cause or prevention method found for learning disabilities. Experts have come to the agreement that it is likely a combination of social, physical, environmental, and social factors that trigger the onset of a learning disability. This, in turn, requires that a wide variety of prevention methods be utilized. Click link for more.... http://www.helium.com/tm/525521/although-variety-resear... Instead of slaving over a hot stove for hours, how does having a gourmet turkey prepared by a complete stranger sound for your Thanksgiving dinner? • Footballers Fare Better Than Fathers In Role Model Survey

According to a recent study, one in four children don't consider their fathers a close member of the family. And more boys look up to David Beckham than their own fathers as role models. This is quite a sad statement about the fate of the family in the modern world. But does it have to be this way? Are people quick to blame long working hours on the lack of fathers' involvement in their children's lives?
