Amazing: no heel
"They would go well with most things in your wardrobe, since few colours clash with gold or silver snakeskin. But the sensible girl would team these shoes with a crash helmet and an instruction manual. The 5 1/2in creations by Briton Antonio Berardi can hardly be described as high heels, since they lack the most important part - a heel.
For the bargain price of £1,800, the wearer will get to totter around with all her weight balanced on a thickened platform sole.
Unsurprisingly, fashionistas are jostling to buy a pair. Stars including Gwyneth Paltrow and Uma Thurman invested in a black patent version costing more than £1,100, shortly after they were unveiled in Berardi's spring/summer collection in Paris. And Victoria Beckham apparently has a snakeskin pair.
They are going on sale in Browns stores in London, where they have to be ordered up to five weeks in advance.
Lincolnshire-born Berardi, 39, said he was inspired by Latin American music and 1980s post-modernism, adding: "When you walk, it is almost on tiptoe. You look really dainty."
A spokesman for his Paris-based fashion house said: "The shoe has a bigger platform sole which stretches back further than normal and gives support under the arch of the foot. When walking though, you have to put your toe rather than your heel down first and you cannot wear them for very long. They are not dangerous because you would have to lean quite far back before you fell over."
Podiatrists, who have already warned about the health impact of high heels, were less impressed. Michael Paynton, chairman of the British Chiropody and Podiatry Association, said: "The heel is there to stabilise. When you elevate the rear of the foot it makes you lean forward, which is bad for both the back and the foot. The front of the foot ends up taking the weight of the bulk of your body, which can in turn do damage to the tendons in your legs by shortening them. I certainly would not recommend these shoes."
The Berardi shoes were joined on the season's catwalks by stilt-like sandals from Alexander McQueen, Nina Ricci heels shaped like a bear's claw and Yves Saint Laurent strappy sandals with a reed-thin metal sole." "They would go well with most things in your wardrobe, since few colours clash with gold or silver snakeskin. But the sensible girl w... more -
Killer heels? How do they do it?
Ever wonder how the "stars" stay in heels all the time. I don't know about you, but after two hours I like to pull my flip flops out of my purse and stash the heels back in.
Well, apparently they get injections that create "pillows in your feet."
"'It's biodegradable hyaluronic acid and Sephadex [sugar glucose beads], which stimulates your own soft tissue to produce more collagen,' Chelin explains. 'We're just replacing what nature takes away.' "
"Results can last up to 18 months, he says, although 'many high-heel devotees get treated about a week before their big glam outings.' "
Men are jumping on the wagon too.
I don't know about you but I will stick with the flip flops. Ever wonder how the "stars" stay in heels all the time. I don't know about you, but after two hours I like to pull my flip flops out ... more -

"England, the country that nurtured the genius of Isaac Newton, has now applied the brains of its physicists to a modern conundrum: What is the height of the heels that Sex in the City's Carrie Bradshaw could wear without falling over or cramping up in pain?
The answer, as calculated by Professor Paul Stevenson of the University of Surrey, is as complicated as contemporary dating. If Bradshaw, the show's fashion mad lead character, is wearing shoes she really likes, cost a lot, and are the latest thing, she can sashay about easily in a pair of her beloved Manolo Blahnik stilettos that top out at over five inches or almost 13 centimeters tall. If she has spent the night toasting the end of the television series, then she had better think about not wearing shoes with heels higher than about an inch because the alcohol will upset her equilibrium.
What the quantification does not address is how much pressure a woman stumbling about in high heels would exert if she stepped on you. For that the British physics institute directs people to its web site where it records that a 100 pound woman in stilettos will exert pressure under her foot that is 20 times that of a 6,000 pound elephant.

For the love of shoes.
How far would you go for shoes and really how many pairs do you really needed?
Is it fascination, affluenza, obsession, I mean 140 pairs of Chuck Taylors, 300 pairs of high heels??... WOW!! (insert "OMG shoes"-video song)
Excerpts from the article:
-
"She skipped meals for $275 Via Spigas. She hunted for black cowboy boots in Florence. Her favorite pair, purple Guccis, are trimmed with a stripe of mink. To justify the prices, she only buys the colorful, the animal print, the kooky. Flip-flops come out on weekends only."
"A sixth-grade teacher at Middleburg Elementary School, Ross prides herself on being "the cool teacher" with more than 140 pairs of Chuck Taylor sneakers. She only wears her sneakers on Fridays, so her students never see the same pair twice."
"Two different shoes can change how you feel, literally raising you up," she said. "The experience has promise. Plus, no matter whether you gain or lose weight, you can keep them. Blutcher, a JEA project outreach coordinator, owns 300 pairs, each nuanced for a certain occasion or event. Some, such as a silver strappy pair encrusted with rhinestones, will only see the light of night clubs." How far would you go for shoes and really how many pairs do you really needed? ... more -

Heel-less heels
Watch out for ritzy, celebrity roadkill on the streets of LA, London and New York in the coming weeks, as designer Antonio Beradi revealed 5 1/2 inch high heels that have no heels. The silver snake skin creations do not come with a matching helmet, but sporting noggin protection might not be such a bad idea as the shoes require ladies to tip-toe so as to avoid toppling over. Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham and Uma Thurman have already forked over $3,600 for the podiatrists’ nightmare heels. Nevermind the corns and back problems, high heels might improve your sex life!
