    • Man blows up apartment spraying for bugs

I always wondered when something like this would happen. Those fumes are flammable.

A New Jersey man trying to exterminate insects in his apartment blew it up instead, the New York Daily News reported on Monday.

Isias Vidal Maceda was unhurt in the incident, but 80 percent of his apartment was destroyed, Eatontown, New Jersey police told the newspaper.

The accident occurred as Maceda was spraying for pests in his kitchen. Somehow the bug spray ignited a blast that blew out the apartment's front windows and triggered a fire that quickly spread, the newspaper said.

    • Anti-gay slurs painted on houses and cars in South Florida's gayest neighborhood

"Three homes and five vehicles were sprayed with anti-gay slogans in the 2800 block of NW 7th Ave in Wilton Manors early Friday morning.

One resident was using soap and water to wash out the anti-gay messages sprayed on his property that said "fag".

He explained to CBS4 Reporter Ted Scouten that he's not gay, which is all the more worrying why he was a target.

Another resident, Ron Helfrich, said his home and car were defaced, "They wrote gay on the door, in the living room, and on the couch."

''There's no reason for this to happen,'' Aaron Challancin said. ``We didn't do anything to anyone. We're normal people trying to live normal lives.

The incidents are being investigated by the Wilton Manors police department."

    • Very Few House GOP Donate to McCain

Few House Republicans have contributed to Sen. John McCain since he clinched the Republican nomination at the end of February.

McCain, Arizona’s senior senator, has had a far warmer reception in the upper chamber. At least 22 Senate colleagues have contributed to McCain’s campaign, including Sen. Joe Lieberman (Conn.), an Independent who attends Democratic caucus meetings.

Only 21 House Republicans have given to McCain from their personal campaign accounts since he became the presumptive GOP nominee four and a half months ago, according to an analysis of House fundraising reports made public Wednesday.

In addition, eleven House Republicans who did not give from their personal campaign accounts this year contributed from their leadership political action committees (PACs), according to fundraising reports covering the election cycle through the end of May.

So while nearly half the Senate GOP conference has given to McCain, less than 20 percent of House Republicans have pitched in.

Several of the highest-ranking Republicans in the House have yet to give to McCain. Republican Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) and Republican Conference Chairman Adam Putnam (Fla.) have not given anything, according to the most recent fundraising reports.

“Congressman Blunt is focused on retaking the House so John McCain has the Republican majority he needs to lead our nation. To that end, he has been putting his fundraising dollars to use supporting incumbents and strong challengers,” said Blunt spokesman Nick Simpson.

Putnam is heading a Sportsmen for McCain group and is organizing an event for the Arizona senator, according to a source.

The lack of financial gifts raises questions about McCain’s relationship with members of the lower chamber. McCain has clashed throughout his career with House Republicans on issues ranging from immigration to campaign finance reform to drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. A survey by The Hill in June found more than a dozen House Republicans who refused to endorse McCain, even though he will be the party’s standard-bearer this fall.

House Republicans say that McCain has done little to solicit their financial support, even though Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.), the expected Democratic nominee, has raised more than twice as much money this election cycle. Obama reported $10 million more in cash on hand at the end of May.

Aides to McCain’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

    • Obama got discount on home loan

Shortly after joining the U.S. Senate and while enjoying a surge in income, Barack Obama bought a $1.65 million restored Georgian mansion in an upscale Chicago neighborhood. To finance the purchase, he secured a $1.32 million loan from Northern Trust in Illinois.

The freshman Democratic senator received a discount. He locked in an interest rate of 5.625 percent on the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, below the average for such loans at the time in Chicago. The loan was unusually large, known in banker lingo as a "super super jumbo." Obama paid no origination fee or discount points, as some consumers do to reduce their interest rates.

Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt said the rate was adjusted to account for a competing offer from another lender and other factors. "The Obamas have since had as much as $3 million invested through Northern Trust," he said in a statement.

"Francie Rehwald wanted her house to look "feminine", have curves and be eco-friendly. Her architect's answer was: "Let's use a 747!"The wing of the Boeing jet will be used for the roof, its nose as a meditation temple while its trademark "bulge" will serve as a loft. The plane's parts were obtained from an aeroplane scrap yard in California.
They cost around $100,000 to purchase, while the construction of the project, which is expected to start in June, is thought likely to cost several million dollars by the time it is completed."

    • Las Vegas called "mortgage fraud ground zero"

Since late 2004, the real estate market in Las Vegas has "crashed", down about 20% - 40% from its highs just a couple of years ago to pre-2004 prices in most areas. Over-building, exaggerated enthusiasm, bad mortgages, a terrible economy and huge FRAUD combined to create the perfect storm pressuring millions of homeowners to fold and lose big. These very sad times for millions are now causing increases in crime, and overwhelming physical and mental illnesses from stress. Here is an article typical of the Las Vegas Newspapers everyday lately.

    • Prince Andrew gets £3m ‘bonus’ from Kazakh friend

"Prince Andrew has sold his house for £3m more than the asking price to a Kazakh tycoon with whom he is said to have had business dealings.

Kenes Rakishev, the 29-year-old head of an energy conglomerate, bought Sunninghill Park, Andrew's former home, for £15m even though it was marketed at an upper guide price of £12m. There were no other bidders.

Rakishev bought the 12-bedroomed house with his father-in-law, a former Kazakh prime minister, using an offshore company. The deal has been kept a closely guarded secret. It is understood that Andrew met the buyers while on a trip to Kazakhstan, a country he has visited on official business three times since 2003, although more frequently in private. He helps broker business deals in the resource-rich former Soviet republic as part of his role as roving ambassador for British trade, a position for which he is not paid. He is also joint patron of the British-Kazakh Society.

Sunninghill, which was a wedding present from the Queen to Andrew and his bride Sarah Ferguson in 1986, had been up for sale for five years before being bought by the Kazakh tycoon eight months ago.

The entire £15m was paid to the trustees who manage the property on Andrew's behalf. He is the sole beneficary of the trust after his former wife relinquished any claim on the property as part of their divorce.

Artur Krivov, who was the managing director of the UK arm of Rakishev's conglomerate, Sat&Co, until eight months ago, confirmed a large discrepancy between the asking price and the amount paid.

"I personally was really surprised because there were much better [houses] at that price because I was helping look for a place for them," he said. "There were other choices which were much more attractive than that. But I guess there were other issues here than just price and the place."

A source close to Andrew said he understood the Kazakhs had an independent survey valuing the house at about £12m.

A spokesman for Andrew, who said he was in Kazakhstan this weekend on a privately funded "holiday", said: "The sale of Sunninghill Park was a straight commercial transaction. There were no side deals and absolutely no arrangement for the Duke of York to benefit otherwise or to commit to any other commercial arrangement. Any suggestion otherwise is completely false"."

At 3,136 square feet, with two bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms and a study, the house is hardly ostentatious.

Baushke and David Easton, of Rammed Earth Works, executed (owner) Sandy Lawrence's wishes in the most literal sense possible. Beyond using recycled materials and installing 33 doors, they built the client's house with her own land through a process that has come to be known as pisé (shorter and oh-so-much-more-sophisticated-sounding than "pneumatically impacted stabilized earth"), spraying a mix of soil, cement and water into temporarily erected boxes that, when removed, hold 18-inch-thick walls that require no painting or finishing, not to mention no Sheetrock.

    • The House Of Ninja

There are currently two distinct styles (or "schools") of vogue: Old Way (pre-1990) and New Way (post 1990). Old Way is characterized by formation of lines, symmetry, and precision in the execution of such formations and graceful, fluid-like action. New Way is characterized by a more rigid, geometric pattern movement coupled with "clicks" (limb contortions at the joints) and "arms control" (sleight of hand and wrist illusions, which usually include "tuts" or "tutting" and locking). New Way can also be described as a modified form of mime, where imaginary geometric shapes such as a box are introduced during motion and moved progressively around the dancer's body to display the dancer's dexterity and memory.

Vogue also encompasses other forms of dance and movement, namely modern jazz, ballet, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, martial arts, breakdancing, yoga, and others. Some dance historians even point out that breakdance and vogue evolved together in a state of mutual borrowing, with artists from both sides interacting with each other in New York City's Central Park, West Side Piers, Harlem, and Washington Square Park during the 70s and early 80s.
