Train To Coachella!
This year's Coachella festival was the first of its kind with its own train and train station. To help reduce the carbon footprint of a 3-day music festival held in the desert, organizers found a way to make one giant carpool – that came in the form of the Coachella Express. After a year of planning between Coachella, Global Inheritance, Golden Voice and Amtrak, this train idea got, well, rolling. Radiohead to Prince: Unblock 'Creep' cover videos
After word spread that Prince covered Radiohead's "Creep" at Coachella, the tens of thousands who couldn't be there ran to YouTube for a peek. Everyone was quickly denied — even Radiohead.
All videos of Prince's unique rendition of Radiohead's early hit were quickly taken down, leaving only a message that his label, NPG Records, had removed the clips, claiming a copyright violation. But the posted videos were shot by fans and, obviously, the song isn't Prince's.
In a recent interview, Thom Yorke said he heard about Prince's performance from a text message and thought it was "hilarious." Yorke laughed when his bandmate, guitarist Ed O'Brien, said the blocking had prevented him from seeing Prince's version of their song.
"Really? He's blocked it?" asked Yorke, who figured it was their song to block or not. "Surely we should block it. Hang on a moment."
Yorke added: "Well, tell him to unblock it. It's our ... song." After word spread that Prince covered Radiohead's "Creep" at Coachella, the tens of thousands who couldn't be there ran to YouTube for... more -
Prince vs. Radiohead: DMCA FIGHT!
Prince covered Radiohead's Creep at Coachella. A clip wound up on YouTube. YouTube pulled the clip, and Radiohead is not thrilled. And so a digital rights fight is going to ensue.
Here's a blip from Pitchfork:
"Having footage of his own songs removed is within Prince's rights of course, but where should the line be drawn for covers?
Radiohead, as it happens, feel that right belongs to them. An Associated Press report picked up by Billboard.com today notes comments from a recent Radiohead interview (with the AP, presumably, although the report's not 100% clear on that) that suggest the band isn't pleased with Prince's decision to have those "Creep" cover videos taken down. As the AP report puts it:
"Thom Yorke said he heard about Prince's performance from a text message and thought it was "hilarious." Yorke laughed when his bandmate, guitarist Ed O'Brien, said the blocking had prevented even him from seeing Prince's version of their song.
"Really? He's blocked it?" asked Yorke, who figured it was their song to block or not. "Surely we should [have the right to] block it. Hang on a moment." Yorke added, "Well, tell him to unblock it. It's our...song."""

Pink Floyd's missing giant pig has landed
"A giant inflatable pig that went missing from a Southern California music festival at the weekend has been found in tatters in a desert town.
The pig, which has been a signature Pink Floyd stage prop since its appearance on the 1977 cover of "Animals" and the song "Pigs on Wings," broke away from its tethers on Sunday night at Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival.
The festival organizers offered a $10,000 reward for the two-story inflatable pig belonging to ex-Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters." "A giant inflatable pig that went missing from a Southern California music festival at the weekend has been found in tatters in a dese... more -

Rock and Roll and Rails
Coachella festival founder Paul Tollett had tried for years to get train service from L.A. to Indio for his festival, but it wasn't until this year, with festivals reaching a new zenith, that he found Amtrak eager to talk. This year, concert-goers were offered free rides to and from Los Angeles' Union Station, as well as VIP passes to the festival.
Here's hoping that this introduced some people to the potential benefits of increased train service in California! Coachella festival founder Paul Tollett had tried for years to get train service from L.A. to Indio for his festival, but it wasn't un... more -

It's going to 'purple rain' in the desert; Prince joins Coachella
What's the best way to give a big, last-minute boost to ticket sales for this year's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival? In a word: Prince.
In a move that may suggest that co-headliners Portishead and Kraftwerk weren't drawing well enough for their April 26 slots at Coachella, Prince has been added to top that night's lineup.
This will mark the Purple Wonder's first performance at Coachella, which takes place April 25-27 at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio. His addition should send the festival's charisma quotient soaring high above the desert sky, especially since he rarely performs at festivals in this country. And as his show-stealing half-time show at last year's Super Bowl attested, almost no one Prince rises to the occasion like Prince. What's the best way to give a big, last-minute boost to ticket sales for this year's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival? In a ... more -
