    • U.S.: Al-Qaida 'imploding' - Terrorism- msnbc.com

Intelligence agencies caution against saying terror group's demise too soon!!!

Top U.S. counterterrorism officials Monday said al-Qaida is "imploding" and that its violent tactics have turned Muslims worldwide against the organization.

"It's imploding. It's imploding because it's not a message that resonates with a lot of Muslims," said Dell Dailey, the State Department's coordinator for counterterrorism.

Al-Qaida still remains the most dangerous threat to the United States, according to U.S. intelligence officials and reports. But of growing concern are organizations like Lebanese Hezbollah and Hamas, which combine social services, local governance, national politics with extremist attacks, Undersecretary of State James Glassman said.

    • Istanbul bombs kill 15 on eve of political case

Bombs killed 15 people and wounded around 140 in Istanbul late on Sunday.

Just hours ahead of a court case over banning the governing party that has plunged Turkey into political turmoil.

Officials said one loud blast brought people into the streets of a busy shopping and eating area, then a larger bomb hidden in a rubbish bin exploded 10 minutes and 50 meters away, tearing through the crowds.

"This is a terror attack," city governor Muammer Guler told reporters at the scene, in a pedestrianized street where families gather in the evenings to dine, sip tea and stroll, well away from the city's tourist sites.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blasts, the deadliest attack in Turkey since 2003.

Television showed ambulances taking away the wounded in the middle-class Gungoren district of Turkey's biggest city, near the main airport. Among the rubble and glass of broken shop windows, men carried away the wounded and children cried.

"First a percussion bomb exploded and then a bomb in a garbage container," Deputy Prime Minister Hayati Yazici told reporters.

One witness said: "Tens of people were scattered around. People's heads, arms, were flying in the air."

"I condemn those who carried out this bombing, which shows us terrorism's inhumane desire for cruelty and violence without discriminating between men and women, young, old and children," President Abdullah Gul said in a statement.

    • Saudi law may lead to Turk's beheading

A barber in Saudi Arabia faces beheading for the crime of using God's name in vain. Sabri Bogday, a Turk who cuts hair in the Saudi port cityof Jidda, is awaiting appeal on his sentence.

Press reports say Bogday cursed during an argument with a neighbor, who later complained to police. This nation is ruled by a strict Wahabi brand of justice that doles out lashings and public beheadings for crimes including murder, rape and heresy.

Bogday has been in jail for 13 months. Turkish President Abdullah Gul has asked Saudi King Abdullah to spare the barber. But the Arab News daily reported that there could be complications hinging on arcane interpretations of Wahabi religious law by fundamentalist judges.

    • Should the UK prosecute for 'thought crime'?

Five young Muslim men that had been jailed over 'extremist literature' have had their sentences quashed by The Court of Appeal after the Lord Chief Justice said their conviction for downloading 'extremist propaganda' was unsafe.

The men were convicted in 2007 after it was revealed the men had "become obsessed with extremist jihadi websites and literature."

The men who walked free earlier today reported that they were "overjoyed" at the result and that they believed their prosecution should "never have happened."

Their solictior, Imran Khan, said that they had effectively been prosecuted for 'thought crime.'

Is downloading 'extremist propaganda' really a 'thought crime' when the suspects in question have notably become 'obsessed' with the material?

    • Bishop Says 'Muslim Extremists Create No-Go Areas' In Britain

One of the Church of England's most senior bishops (and the Church's only Asian bishop), Reverend Michael Nazir-Ali, says he fears Islamic extremists are creating "no-go areas" across Britain. He says people of a different race or faith face being attacked in some Muslim areas, and criticises the doctrine of multi-culturalism for creating separate communities that fail to integrate into mainstream society.

Are non-Muslims actually so unwelcome in certain areas as to risk harm or attack in some Muslim areas? Or is the bishop using scaremongering tactics as a way to reverse the decline of his own religion's influence on Britain?

    • 'Lyrical Terrorist' Spared Jail

A 23-year-old former Heathrow Airport worker, who called herself the "lyrical terrorist" and penned chilling poems called 'How To Behead' and 'The Living Martyrs', has been spared jail after becoming the first woman convicted under new terrorism legislation.

In her poem 'How to Behead' she wrote: "It's not as messy or as hard as some may think/ It's all about the flow of the wrist." Another section said: "No doubt that the punk will twitch and scream/ But ignore the donkey's ass/ And continue to slice back and forth/ You'll feel the knife hit the wind and food pipe/ But don't Stop/ Continue with all your might."

Since when did writing poetry become a criminal offence? Bar emo moanings, of course.
