Should we put a Base on the moon? or perhaps there already is one.

Apollo Astronaut Ed Mitchell Says Goverment Is Covering Up UFOs
"I've been saying the same damn words for 10 years, almost verbatim, and all of a sudden, here I'm global news," he said.
Mitchell first made global news on Feb. 9, 1971, when his lunar mission earned him a place in the record book for longest moonwalk -- an unbelievable feat that he said could be topped by an alien encounter.
"It would be pretty darn exciting. I have been hoping for that type of experience since I got involved in this," he said.
Mitchell told WPBF that he does not know why the government would be covering up the existence of intelligent life.

New Video Shows Earth From Space

NASA's Deep Impact spacecraft has made a movie of the moon passing in front of the Earth from the probe's vantage point millions of miles away.
Astronomers plan to use the video to develop techniques to look for Earth-like worlds in other solar systems.
"Making a video of Earth from so far away helps the search for other life-bearing planets in the universe by giving insights into how a distant, Earth-like alien world would appear to us," said Michael A'Hearn of the University of Maryland and the principal investigator for the Deep Impact extended mission.
Deep Impact, which sent an impactor into comet Tempel 1 on July 4, 2005, is currently 31 million miles away from Earth on its way to a flyby of comet Hartley 2 on Nov. 4, 2010.
During its cruise to Hartley 2, Deep Impact will be searching for extrasolar planets.
Deep Impact took several images of the Earth during a full planetary rotation; these images have been combined into a color video. During the video, the moon enters the frame as it orbits the Earth and then is shown transiting, or passing in front of, the Earth.
While other spacecraft, including Voyager 1 and Galileo, have imaged Earth and the moon from space, Deep Impact is the first to show a transit of Earth with enough detail to see large craters on the moon and oceans and continents on Earth.
"Our video shows some specific features that are important for observations of Earth-like planets orbiting other stars," said Drake Deming of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., and the deputy principal investigator for the extended mission. "A 'sun glint' can be seen in the movie, caused by light reflected from Earth's oceans, and similar glints to be observed from extrasolar planets could indicate alien oceans." Save Arecibo! (because aliens don't do voicemail)
The folks at SETI@home have put out a desperate plea for the community to bust out those quill pens and start writing strongly-worded letters to congress persons. Apparently the Arecibo Observatory, the world's largest radio telescope and SETI@home's data source, is being threatened with some massive budget cuts. Given that a replacement for Arecibo won't be online until 2020 at best, folks are understandably upset. Turns out Arecibo is also one of the best shots we have at detecting an earth-threatening astroid before it's too late and we have to sit through another Elijah Wood movie on the subject. You know what you have to do.

Police helicopter chase u.f.o
UFO enthusiasts got a boost today when Welsh police confirmed that one of their helicopter crews had spotted an 'unusual aircraft' flying over Cardiff earlier this month.
An investigation into the sighting had been launched, they said. The police clarification came after The Sun reported a UFO had 'attacked' a police helicopter, following it for several miles over the Bristol Channel.
'The pilot banked sharply to avoid being hit, then launched into a high-speed pursuit. But he was forced to give up the chase as the helicopter's fuel ran low - and the UFO escaped,' the newspaper reported. Decades ago visitors from other planets warned us about where we were headed, and offered to help. But instead, we, or at least some of us, interpreted their visits as a threat, and decided to shoot first and ask questions afterward. Strange Phoenix lights in night sky: FAA puzzled (photos, video)
The good citizens of Phoenix spotted strange red lights over the city on Monday evening. Arizona Republic reporter Anne Ryman, who lives in Deer Valley, reported seeing four lights in a square shape that eventually became a triangular shape.
