    • They paid for cage fight, got gay love

Baron Cohen of "Borat" fame, may have been responsible for a hoax played on a stadium full of Arkansas wrestling fans. Audience members thought they were going to a "cage fight" style wrestling match, but instead of wrestling, the two actors stripped each other down to their underwear and started kissing.

Audience members threw beers at the actors. Local officials were visually outraged. Everyone entering the stadium signed wavers explaining they were being filmed. There were posters throughout the stadium also announcing the cameras.

"An elaborate array of mounted and handheld video cameras caught the crowd of 1,600's reaction as the two men "went right up to the line" of the city's morality laws, Holland said. The two men stripped down to their underwear, kissed and rubbed on each other, the sergeant said."

Cohen has a film coming out next year featuring "Bruno", the gay Austrian fashion reporter created for "the Ali G Show." "Baron Cohen, in the guise of Bruno, often interviewed hapless subjects in the South."

Representatives for Cohen refused to comment on the stunt.

I'm baffled, I can't believe this is an issue and that gay men are being blamed.

    • Gay pride parade in Jerusalem!!

Members of Jerusalem's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community and their supporters marched in Jerusalem on Thursday afternoon, and ultra-Orthodox Jews staged a protest from a safe distance in what has become an annual test of strength.

The gay community sees itself as deprived of full recognition, equality and rights. Ultra-Orthodox Jews reject homosexuality as depravity.

Posters signed by critical rabbinical authorities, sanctimonious eye-rolling on both sides, the inevitable petition to the supreme court, as well as the expected ruling in favor — everyone knows the drill.

In part, the gay issue taps into existing tensions in Israel between religious and secular and right- vs. left-wing politics, and the whole thing is often perceived as a package deal. Not surprisingly, protesters against the parade included Itamar Ben-Gvir, a career activist whose name is in the notebook of any reporter who ever covered a right-wing demonstration in Israel.

    • Beating, taunting prompts anti-gay harassment resolution in schools

UPPER LAKE -- After a middle school student was bullied for years and beaten up last fall, Upper Lake Union Elementary School District agreed to take steps to prevent anti-gay harassment and discrimination in a settlement the district reached Monday with the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California (ACLU-NC).

It started as name-calling in second grade, according to David and his mother, Maria. David's classmates taunted, shunned and chased him because of his tendency to play with girls rather than boys, his preference for cheerleading and dance rather than football and baseball, and because he liked to play with dolls, according to Maria.

"I can't remember a day at school when I wasn't called a faggot or gay," David said.

The bullying and taunting culminated in violence in October 2007, when David was attacked by a group of his peers in the school locker room at Upper Lake Middle School after gym class. David was knocked to the ground and kicked in the head, stomach and sides while the boys screamed at him, calling him "fag" and "queer."

"He crawled out of that locker room. He could not get up he crawled," Maria said.

David's bruising was severe enough that his doctor ordered a blood test to ensure he didn't have liver or kidney damage, according to Maria.

Maria said she tried for years to resolve the matter by talking to teachers and school administrators, and was told repeatedly that the bullying behavior was not condoned.

"I felt that they were telling us being called a faggot is not a big deal. I said we don't allow that at home, so I don't expect that to be used toward my son at school," Maria said.

She went to the ACLU-NC after David was beaten, believing the school would not do enough to solve the problem.

ACLU-NC attorney Juniper Lesnik wrote the district a letter stating that David had legal claims against the district. Lesnik said the matter was settled without a lawsuit.

The settlement included a $25,000 award to David's family to be used for David's future educational needs, an amount Lesnik said is substantially less than such cases are worth when they go to trial.

Steps the district agreed to take include putting anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies in the student handbook, requiring lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender (LGBT) training for students and teachers and staff, implementing the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network's (GLSEN) "No Name Calling Week" curriculum in all district schools, implementing programs such as the GLSEN National Day of Silence and the Gay/Straight Alliance Network's "Making your school a hate-free zone" program, and supporting a Gay/Straight Alliance club at the middle school.

    • McDonald’s supports economic opportunities for gays and attracts the wrath of the...

Seems those wonderful folks over at the American Family Association of Tupelo, MS, are at it again and this time they are all upset with Ronald McDonald and McDonald's Restaurants for their having become members National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).

The NGLCC is a national not-for-profit advocacy organization specifically dedicated to expanding the economic opportunities and advancements of the LGBT business community.

McDonalds now has its vice president of communications for McDonalds USA, Richard Ellis, sitting on the NGLCC Board of Directors.

But AFA Founder and Chairman Donald E. Wildmon is asking everyone to send an e-mail to McDonald's because they “have signed on to a nationwide effort to promote "gay" and "lesbian" business ventures.”

The AFA defines itself as "a Christian organization promoting the biblical ethic of decency in American society”, by promoting socially conservative values and causes in the United States. Primary among these causes is opposition to what the AFA expresses refers to as the "homosexual agenda” and claims a membership of over 2 million people.

Homophobia is not the AFA's only agenda though.

It has in the past been accused of Antisemitism for it's views on the so-called "theocidal curse", citing the role of Jewish people in the media, saying that they have an anti-family agenda. In the past has also said that these Jews have intentionally placed anti-Christian messages and activities into their programming to undermine Christianity.

    • How a homophobic idiot was suddenly changed

I'm ashamed to admit this now, but when I was in high school, this was a joke I told a classmate about gay rights: "I'll give them rights - the right to die."

Did I really believe that? No. Back then, I was an 18-year-old insecure student trying to be macho by putting down gay people.

I thought that was the way I was supposed to act, and, sadly, at my school in Mississauga, a lot of people were like me.

While some teenagers today feel comfortable enough to come out of the closet, it was pretty much unheard of almost 20 years ago. You wouldn't want to be called gay after seeing the way homosexuals were portrayed on TV and in movies in the 1980s. Gay men were usually the limp-wristed, secondary characters with high-pitched voices who were the punch-line of a joke, never the leading man.

Take one of my favourite films growing up: 1984's Revenge of the Nerds. It featured a gay man named Lamar Latrell. In one scene, the nerds make a special javelin designed specifically for Lamar's limp wrist in order to beat the jocks in a contest.

And it was common for actors to put down other people by calling them "queers" or "homos."

Hollywood taught me being gay was an insult. And degrading gay people was something I'd watched on TV hundreds of times. So I did it too.

I'm ashamed to admit this now, but when I was in high school, this was a joke I told a classmate about gay rights: "I'll give them rig... more

    • Internet grows up! Reddit welcomes LGBT and feminist websites

Social bookmarking site Reddit has finally jumped ahead of its rivals and outgrown puberty.

While Digg is infamously homophobic and Fark deeply misogynistic, it’s a breath of fresh air to see a mainstream social bookmarking site that not only tolerates but actually welcomes LGBT and feminist content.

Reddit underwent a redesign this week, and has emerged with a triumphant new feature: users can now tick which types of content they want to read. So no more trawling through endless Ron Paul and 9/11 conspiracy stories to get to what you actually want to read. Unless Ron Paul and 9/11 are what you actually want to read, of course.

There are many many types of content to subscribe to in the new Reddit, including, to our surprise and delight, ‘LGBT‘ and ‘feminisms‘. (We’re not sure why there’s a plural there, one feminism would’ve been sufficient, but let’s not complain.)

These categories are currently pretty underused - at time of writing there were 580 Reddit users signed up for the LGBT news, and 441 for feminisms, compared to 10,380 in the ‘WTF’ category and 3,020 just for ‘lolcats’ . But hopefully as word gets out, more LGBT and feminist bloggers/website pubishers/readers will use the categories and build their success.

    • Beating Of Gay Man Appears To Be Hate Crime

A bruised head and swollen eye didn't stop 20-year-old Marquis from speaking publicly about the attack. He's admittedly afraid after what happened, but said he is not afraid of who he is.

"I've been called names while I was out, but never like this," said Bryant.

Bryant says the attackers started by yelling offensive remarks.

"I was being called a 'fag', a 'faggott.' The next thing I know I'm hitting the ground," said Bryant.

He says as he was nearing the corner of 20th St. and J St. when he put some head phones on a starting listening to music. All of a sudden, the suspects allegedly jumped on him and knocked him to he ground.

"We don't tolerate crimes like this," said Sgt. Matt Young, Sacramento Police Department.

Sacrament Police believe the 20-year-old may have been targeted because the bag he was carrying may have looked to his alleged attackers like a woman's purse.

    • Homosexuals' money is no good here

Some businesses still don't cater to homosexuals, ignoring a potentially lucrative source of revenue, says University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee economist Keith A. Bender.

One of the most well-known examples is eHarmony.com, even as California, the country's most populated state, began performing same-sex marriages this week. The online dating Web site bills itself as a provider of what it calls unique measurements for compatibility that, according to a representative, do not cater to same-sex partnering.

"The research is based on six Ph.D. psychologists and 29 variables for compatibility called the compatibility matching system," said David D., an eHarmony representative who refused to give his full name.

With same-sex marriage now legal in California, people of faith are renewing a passionate debate over whether homosexuality is sanctioned by God.

Christians, Jews and Muslims on both sides of the issue cite the holy writings of their religions. Some note that the Bible depicts man-lying-with-man as an "abomination," while others say it speaks of God's love for all people created in his image.

Both sides defend their positions with the zeal of the biblical warriors who inhabit their scriptures.

    • Homophobia is costing some California taxpayers big dollars

It is estimated that approximately 51,320 of California's same-sex couples are planning to marry now that the California state Supreme Court has ruled that gay and lesbian couples are entitled to civil marriage in that state.

Another 68,000 out-of-state couples are likely to travel to California to tie the knot generating anywhere between $437.5 million and $683.6 million over the next three years, and creating 2,178 jobs in California, particularly in the travel-related business.

Yet some counties in California are going to be missing out on the expected financial windfall created by gay marriage as projected by a resent study because of some official homophobia in those counties.
