Gun-free zones don't work. Let responsible people defend themselves.
"Gun-free zones" don't work. Look at VT and NIU. It was illegal to carry a gun there, but the criminals did anyway. Why?...because a person bent on stealing from, hurting, or killing another does not care if a sign says "No guns on school grounds." "Gun-free zones" only disarm law-abiding citizens. This means that ONLY the criminals will have guns. Why should we make rules that give murderers free reign until police can get there (which is usually several minutes to a half-hour).
Why should we stop law-abiding adults from carrying guns on campus? These people already safely carry in places like churches, movie theaters, supermarkets, and offices. There is no reason to think that they will suddenly change because they are standing on land owned by the school. These people are the ones we want to have guns! Statistically, they commit fewer crimes than police officers, and should they need to defend themselves, miss less often than the police! These are people who want to protect themselves, and in doing so, would protect those around them. "Gun-free zones" don't work. Look at VT and NIU. No Guns on Campus!
My name is Alec Jankowski and I go to the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. Even though I live in a pretty bad neighborhood, I don't think students should be allowed to own guns on campus, simply because I believe they cause more problems than they solve. The real victims of Gun Free Zones
Disarming Law Abiding American Citizens in so-called "Gun Free Zones" does not make anyone safe. Calling a Zone "Gun Free" does not make it so. Criminals break the law by definition and certainly will not hesitate to break a gun free zone law or policy. It's well past time that we start punishing the Criminals, not their intended victims. Disarming Law Abiding American Citizens in so-called "Gun Free Zones" does not make anyone safe. Calling a Zone "Gun F... more

Gun Debate Escalates
Gun policy--where they can be carried, who can have them, all of that--is the subject of a heated national dialogue in light of the massive amounts of college shootings. Eric Thompson, the dealer whose site supplied the gun that wreaked havoc at Virginia Tech, is one of the loudest voices on the side of letting guns on campuses. You'd think he'd have a little remorse for that one. Gun policy--where they can be carried, who can have them, all of that--is the subject of a heated national dialogue in light of the ma... more

Victims families of Virgina Tech tragedy offered $100k settlement
Families of those killed in the Virginia Tech massacre would receive $100,000 each under a settlement the state is proposing to prevent lawsuits, according to a victim's relative who received a copy of the proposal.
Medical and counseling expenses would be provided to the families of the 32 killed and dozens of surviving victims, said the person, who asked Monday to remain anonymous because those involved were told not to discuss the settlement.
Families would also have the opportunity to question the governor and university officials about the shootings, according to the family member. Families of those killed in the Virginia Tech massacre would receive $100,000 each under a settlement the state is proposing to preven... more -

Oxnard Shooting
Here we go again--everyone asking "why another school shooting? why was s/he's motivated to do this?" Why? It's not about WHY. Any society will have it's lunatic fringe. It's HOW do these sad kids get such easy access to guns. Do you think we'd see all these mass killing if they'd only had a knife to assault classmates? Until Americans wake up to the fact that the root of our mass school killings is that this country is drowning in weapons, these headlines will continue to haunt us on a fairly regular basis. Disgustingly, they never have woken up and they probably never will--so let's all just get used to it. Here we go again--everyone asking "why another school shooting? why was s/he's motivated to do this?" Why? It's... more
