Hip Hop vs. America II: Where Did the Love Go?
I watch this year's segments and it left a bitter taste in my mouth. So to satisfy the constant rage that is built up inside of me I had to release myself in a way where I can remain furious and passionate about the issue but slowly my thoughts go. Just like a tea kettle releasing steam to notify it's makers that whatever is inside of it is ready but all at the same time retaining its flavor, taste, deliciousness, and identity. In other words I wrote about it. I watch this year's segments and it left a bitter taste in my mouth. So to satisfy the constant rage that is built up inside of me I h... more

Obama: Tough Love for African Americans
'Obama 'Won't Back Off One Bit' on His Tough-Love Message
July 13, 2008 9:43 AM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., says that he won’t back down on his “tough love” message to African Americans -– a subject that prompted Jesse Jackson's angry open-mic gaffe this past week.
Obama told reporters aboard his plane to San Diego that Americans need to recognize that there is a problem when more than a half of African American children are growing up without a father in the house.
“That is a problem and I won’t back up one bit in asserting that that’s a problem that we have to be honest about," he said.
Obama’s tough love message to African American fathers came most notably in a Fathers Day speech last month in which he told fathers that “any ol' fool” could conceive a child –- but it takes a man to be father.
Many, including Jesse Jackson, took issue with the speech, and the manner in which Obama spoke to his audience. This week, Jackson sparked a controversy when Fox News Channel released a video in which Jackson was caught with a hot mic saying that Obama was “talking down to black people.”
Obama confirmed that Jackson’s feelings were well known to him before the tape was released –- communicated to him from Jackson himself.
“I had spoken to him before, a few days before what he said was released," Obama said, "and we had actually discussed some of the concerns he had raised about my fatherhood speech.”
Obama said that he told Jackson be believes that there are structural inequalities in the country that have to be dealt with.
“My argument is simply that it’s not an 'either-or' proposition, it’s a 'both-and' proposition," Obama said. "The government and society as a whole has an obligation to deal with poverty, particularly poverty that’s deep-rooted not just in the inner cities, but in rural communities all across America.”
Obama said his conversation with Jackson was not met with a lot of open resistance on the other end of the phone.
“In my conversation, I think it would be hard for him to disagree with that since many of the things I have said are the things that he has said in the past,” Obama said.
The presumptive Democratic nominee has since accepted Jackson’s apology for his remarks, but confirmed they have not spoken since the controversial tapes of Jackson were released. "

"Fervent supporters of Barack Obama like to say that putting him in the White House would transform America. With all due respect to the candidate, that gets it backward. Many blacks find joy in unexpected breakthrough
WITH THE PROBABLE DEMOCRATE BARACK OBAMA NOW OVER THE HUMP, SOME BLACKS NOW ALL OVER THE WORLD HAVE BEEN GIVEN A SINCE OF PRIDE AND HOPE WITH THEIR CHANCES OF MAKING IT TO SUCCESS.
IN MY ESTIMATION, THIS HAS TO BE ONE THE THE BIGGEST UPSETS WITHIN RECENT HISTORY. FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, A BLACK MAN, OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN DECENT WILL BE REPRESENTNG A PARTY FOR THE POSITION OF PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. FOLKS, THIS IS SAYING SOMETHING, THIS IS SAYING THAT MAYBE, JUST MAYBE WE HAVE CLIMBED A FEW INCHES. HAVE FINALLY CROSSED THAT VIRTUAL HURDLE THAT HAS KEPT US DOWN FOR MOST OF OUT HABITUAL LIFETIMES. YOU'D HAVE TO THINK THAT MAYBE THIS TIME THE MINORITY GETS THEIRS, THAT THIS TIME WE AS BLACK PEOPLE CAN SETBACK AND SAY, HEY WE'VE DONE IT. WE'VE REACHED TO OUT PLATEAU OF CAN AND NOT CAN'T, AND TO DONE AND TO DON'T. IGNORING THE ECHOES OF COULD NOT HAVE DONE, AND CANNOT DO. IT IS A NEW IN IN AMERICA, A BRAND NEW DAY WHEN AN AFRICAN AMERICAN SENATOR NAMED BARACK OBAMA CAN BE ELECTED PRESIDENT. CONGRADULATIONS MR. OBAMA, DO US ALL (WHITE, BLACK, PURPLE, AND BROWN) WITHIN YOUR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. While the U.S. defends interest in the Middle East, poor Haitians next door eat mu...
The American government claims that our interest abroad,Iraq in particular,is for freedom of the Iraqi people. If that is true, how can we watch the on going suffering of the people in Haiti only hundreds of miles from the Florida coast. Worst than that, our government allows immigrants from almost any country except Haiti to seek political asylum in the U.S. Mexicans,Latins from Central America,Cubans, most people from Europe and all over the rest of the planet can come to America, except Haitians. Why is that? What is so bad about Haitian people that the U.S. coast guard will turn their makeshift rafts around in the middle of the oceans deadly currents, knowing that people who are only seeking freedom and a better way of life for themselves and their families, while being turned around will now risk death by either sea or political execution upon their forced return to the small famished, diseased stricken island..
Haiti people are so poor that baking of mud cookies has becomie a staple in the Haitian diet. Bcause it is normal, some people in America think that it is done more in tradition that it is out of necessity. It's mormal because of poverty. Shame on America. Shame on us as a neighboring country to ignore the Haitian people as if they just a bunch of diseased animals just waitig to die. Is love thy neighbor as thyself just a biblical fairytale ?
Would we allow the United States government to ignore this ambarrassing modern day atrocity to take place if Haitians were White and not Black ? I don't think so. We, as a Nation, are just as guilty as all of Europe was, that watched Adolph Hitler annihilate German's Jews. These are crimes against humanity. Some, with Christians with twisted minds, justify turning their backs on the small island south of Florida, by truly thinking that Haiti is really Hades, as in the Biblical place called Hell.

We All Human
I am sharing the story of my young friends from Liberia who I met a year ago. They fled their country because of the violent civil war, and now their new home is Oakland, California. During this year as we have grown close, they have told me so many disturbing truths about how they are treated in their new community, which is a predominantly African American neighborhood. I always assumed that they would at least be welcomed and maybe even embraced by their black neighbors because of some shared connection. I was very wrong. But the reason I ask my friends to tell their own story is that they are angels of light and hope in the form of kids. They have somehow found their own way to rise above the abuses and make friends by being true to themselves and to their culture. My hope is that their story might spread the wisdom these young kids carry about how all people should treat each other. I am sharing the story of my young friends from Liberia who I met a year ago.
