Based on St. George and the Dragon, artist Ted Riederer creates a suit of armor built from punk rock records of 1986 and a wall of skulls from the top 100 of 1986. We follow this work for a year from a studio in Queens to a Gallery Show in San Francisco and finally a solo show in Berlin.

    • Puppy Tales: The Puppy O'Shaughnessy Story

Since its beginnings in 1894, the bike messenger's career has been a trade with an abnormally high turnover rate. Not surprisingly since, for all the romance, it is a dirty, dangerous and ill-paid way to make a living. Nevertheless, there are a few career couriers who have spent over 10 years on the mean streets. It is these two-wheeled package-pushers that become legends in their world, and industry.

"Puppy Tales" follows the somewhat comical story of legendary bike-messenger "Puppy" O'Shaughnessy's life and career from his humble beginnings, to his frequent appearances and winnings at urban cycling competition called AlleyCats, to his untimely death on the job from the unique perspective of his fellow messengers, bar buddies and the receptionists who signed for his deliveries.

I had a chance to meet Puppy in 2002 while working a brief stint as a bike messenger in Portland, OR. His life and death has left the community in shock. We may not have been the best of friends. We may not have ever spoken. Still, I pray every night that his tormented soul may rest in peace.
