    • "Scrubs" back to work, but for whom?

It looks like "Scrubs" might be back for more than we all thought! Apparently ABC has been working to pick up 18 episodes of the NBC comedy. The show, produced by ABC Studios for NBC [it's funny how that works in Hollywoodland] has at least a handful of episodes left to air on NBC, but NBC decided it would not pay for the episodes beyond the 5 it will air this Spring.

NBC has long shafted "Scrubs," constantly moving it around and changing the day and time the show aired and always making a question out of whether or not to renew the show. So I'm all for the show moving to a network that actually wants the show and appreciates it. Hopefully an 8th season on ABC will work out!

    • Hollywood Punches Back in As Strike Ends

Euphoria over returning to work quickly gave way to workaday cold sweats as Hollywood writers resumed the daily grind of cranking out scripts after a three-month strike.

"I felt giddy," Craig Sweeny, a writer for the NBC drama "Medium," said about being back on the job Wednesday, a day after the Writers Guild of America overwhelmingly voted to end the walkout. "Then someone handed me a production schedule, and then I felt scared."

    • The strike is OVER! Writers are going back to work!

Striking Hollywood writers are going back to work.

The Writers Guild of America said its members voted Tuesday to end their devastating, three-month strike that brought the entertainment industry to a standstill.

Writers will go back to work Wednesday after voting in Beverly Hills and New York.

"At the end of the day, everybody won," said Leslie Moonves, chief executive officer of CBS Corp.

"It was a fair deal and one that the companies can live with, and it recognizes the large contribution that writers have made to the industry."

    • Get ready! SNL is coming back to TV!

NBC's "Saturday Night Live," the only late-night show completely shelved by the writers' strike, is planning a Feb. 23 return now that the writers signed a contract agreement and are heading back to work. No guests or host have been announced for the return.

"It's been a long dry spell without `Saturday Night Live' on the air," said Rick Ludwin, head of late-night entertainment at NBC, on Tuesday. "They've been sitting on the sidelines watching all this happening in politics and the primaries. `SNL' thrives during an election year and they can't wait to get back on."

    • Union OK's contract; Writers to vote and get back to work

The Writers Guild of America moved swiftly Sunday toward a resolution of its three-month-old strike, with guild leaders deciding to recommend the contract to members and ask them to vote on a quick end to the walkout.

By asking writers to vote separately on ending the strike and accepting the contract, the union cleared the way for the entertainment industry to return to work almost immediately.

Membership meetings will be held Tuesday in New York and Los Angeles to allow writers to decide whether the strike should be brought to a speedy end, said Patric Verrone, president of the guild's West Coast branch.

"This is the best deal this guild has bargained for in 30 years," Verrone said.

    • WGA rounds 3rd base and heads for home; deal nearly done!

The three-months-long Hollywood writers strike could enter its final chapter Saturday when guild members gather in Los Angeles and New York to consider a proposed contract.

Writers Guild of America members picket in front of NBC studios in Burbank, California, on Friday.

If writers respond favorably, the walkout that has devastated the entertainment industry could end as soon as Monday. Writers were wavering between hope and skepticism as they prepared to learn details of the deal for the first time.

    • Conan, Stewart and Colbert's 'feud' erupts

Did you notice how well Mike Huckabee did last nite? Well, turns out a few different people are all claiming credit for his success. And apparently it's gotten ugly.

Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert, and Jon Stewart went at it in a three-round bout on Monday nite, jumping from The Daily Show to The Colbert Report to Late Night in a mock feud over who was responsible for Huckabee's success.

This and other great things to come from the lack of writers!

The striking writers and Hollywood studios have reached a breakthrough! YAY! A tentative agreement might be released as early as next week. Apparently they finally bridged the gap on the largest of issues: compensation for online distribution of content.

    • Studios Cancel Writers' Contracts

Four major studios have canceled dozens of writers' contracts in a possible concession that the current television season cannot be saved, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

The move means the 2-month old writers strike may also endanger next season's new shows, the Times said.

January is usually the beginning of pilot season, when networks order new scripted shows. But the strike leaves networks without a pool of comedy and drama scripts from which to choose.

20th Century Fox Television, CBS Paramount Network Television, NBC Universal and Warner Bros. Television told the Times they have terminated development and production agreements.

Both Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien will be back on the air starting January 2nd, whether or not the Writers Guild strike is over. It would mean putting on their shows without their writers, but apparently opposition from the Guild has eased on the late nite performers since they began paying the salaries of their non-writer staff members.

Update on the Writers Guild strike...

A few days ago, hopes were high that a deal to end a costly five-week strike by thousands of Hollywood writers was imminent. But optimism that writers and producers would soon sign a new pact all but crumbled Friday, as talks broke down and the sides blamed each other for the stalled negotiations that have sidelined many prime-time and late-night TV shows.

"We're puzzled and disheartened by an ongoing WGA (Writers Guild of America) negotiating strategy that seems designed to delay or derail talks rather than facilitate an end to this strike," the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers said in a statement.

The offer on the table would deliver more than $130 million in additional compensation to the writers, but it wasn't clear from the brief statement whether it was per year or over the life of a proposed new three-year agreement.
