    • World Happiness Is Rising - US Places 16th

People in most countries around the world are happier these days, according to newly released data from the World Values Survey based at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research.

Data from representative national surveys conducted from 1981 to 2007 show the happiness index rose in an overwhelming majority of nations studied.

"It's a surprising finding," said U-M political scientist Ronald Inglehart, who directs the World Values Surveys and is the lead author of an article on the topic to be published in the July 2008 issue of the journal Perspectives on Psychological Science.

Here's a link to the national rankings: http://umich.edu/news/happy_08/HappyChart.pdf

    • Husbands add seven hours to women's housework each week- Study says

University of Michigan study concludes that having a husband creates an extra seven hours a week of housework for women. For men, it's the opposite - a wife saves her husband about an hour of housework a week, the study says.

In 1976, U.S. women did an average of 26 hours of housework a week, compared to 17 hours in 2005. Men did about six hours of housework a week in 1976, compared with about 13 hours in 2005.

The seven extra hours of work emerged by comparing the amount of housework done by single women to that of married women.

    • Farewell Republic

Farewell Republic was formed in the spring of 2007 by four students at the University of Michigan. Their sound does not fall neatly into any category. It is a mixture of a wide range of influences interpreted through the lens of their generation. They recently recorded their first demos (mixed by grammy winning engineer Gus Oberg) and have been building a fan base in Ann Arbor through their energetic live shows and have already headlined the city's biggest rock club. In the near future they hope to bring this energy to the rest of the country.

"[Farewell Republic] has a fresh, unique sound that's contagious. Once you start listening, it gets hard to stop because you can really hear how much fun they're having. It's that communicable energy that makes them so endearing, fun to listen to, and is sure to bring them a ton of success."-Lincoln Boehm (WCBN Radio 88.3)

"Farewell Republic leads the listener through dynamic epics with their emotive power and studio expertise." - Michael Kleinman (WQHS Radio)
