Retro jerseys could make a comeback.
Thanks CPT.Jack for opening a sweet court out in the dogpatch neighborhood (San Francisco) and more thanks, for not going to L.A. or driving a motorcycle and lying about it. iHeart you.

I met Andris Biedrins at the SF DMV today
I got a letter from the DMV the the other day. I opened and read it, it said they were....
HOLY $#!^ IS THAT ANDRIS BIEDRINS??!
Sure enough, there I was, patiently awaiting my number to be called at the SF DMV to renew my license when lo and behold who strolls by but newly resigned Warriors center Andris Biedrins with fully spiked hair, a Latvia track jacket and a well fed eastern bloc bodyguard. After completing my paperwork, I went over, expressed my congrats and excitement about the what the future holds.
He shook my hand and said “Thanks. I appreciate.”
His bodyguard nodded and said “OK. No problem.”
Then I got his autograph on some available stationery.
A nice reminder that even the giants among us still need to go through the humbling process of having a horrible photo taken of themselves before getting behind the wheel.
In my case, a Honda.
In his case, a Maserati .

Clippers reach verbal agreement to sign Baron Davis - 5 years/ $65-Million
I guess B-Dizzle doesn't believe anymore. Sorry, Warriors fans but you had to know this was coming when he opted out of his deal. The chance to go home and play in LA with Elton Brand & the rest of the up & coming Clips was just too strong to pass up.
"Baron Davis' agent, Todd Ramasar, told The Times that they have a verbal agreement to sign with the Clippers."
Davis, a former All-Star point guard, is expected to sign a contract in the five-year, $65-million range.
"From a basketball standpoint it's always been about winning for Baron," Ramasar said. "This presented a good opportunity to do that to pair him with Chris Kaman and Elton Brand is expected back." Baron Davis verbally agrees to go to Clippers, leave Warriors
Baron Davis shocked the Warriors by opting out of his contract on Monday. Imagine their surprise now.
NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that the guard reached a verbal agreement with the Clippers on Tuesday night and will sign a new multiyear contract with Los Angeles after the leaguewide moratorium on signings and trades is lifted July 9. Remember American Indian War Veterans on Memorial Day
American Indian
Veterans Memorial
Mission
On September 4, 1996, the American Indian Veterans Memorial Organization was established, in order to build a memorial dedicated to all American Indian Veterans and to provide a place for all to gather and honor those who have served.
The memorial will remind all of the sacrifices made by American Indians, in all branches of the military services, assure that the dedication and bloodshed of these warriors are not forgotten, and to dedicate a memorial of lasting significance for these veterans.
Photo - L to R: Corporal Jim Lane, John Rope, and Kassey Y-32. Ft. Huachuca, Arizona, 1942
My people honored me as a warrior. We had a feast and my parents and grandparents thanked everyone who prayed for my safe return. We had a "special" [dance] and I remembered as we circled the drum, I got a feeling of pride. I felt good inside because that's the way the Kiowa people tell you that you've done well.

Warriors vs Nuggets; A Play-In Game
We got two great teams going at it tonight for TNT's Thursday night special. The nugs and warriors both need the win and they both need the other team to loose. To many this game's winner "should" make it into the playoffs. Can Nelly ball take Golden State to another playoff run? Denver is the kind of team that I think the Warriors match up well against even though they have lost to the Nuggets twice this year.
Denver is also not running at full strength and will have to play in the Bay with a couple of fans that don't want a Warrior loss. The bookmakers are giving a five point edge to Golden State....
But who do you like in this matchup? We got two great teams going at it tonight for TNT's Thursday night special. The nugs and warriors both need the win and they bot... more -
Football star slain, mother in Iraq
This story is heart breaking. Jamiel Shaw, who was being recruited to play at Stanford next year, was shot less than a block from his house while walking home. His mother found out about her son while on duty in Iraq.
From the article:
The father and son years ago had made a pact: Keep focused, stay away from drugs and gangs, and get into college on an athletic scholarship. In return, the dad promised to do everything for his son, nicknamed "Jazz," to make that happen.
Breaking down in tears, the father said, "I guaranteed 'Jazz.' That's why it hurts so much -- because I told him, 'I promise you, if you sacrifice these years, I'll sacrifice with you.'""
A story like this has relevancy to so many different aspects of American culture. One thing I can't help but think about are the many athletes who HAVE managed to escape gang violence, and then return back to their communities to create change. Recently, a bunch of players from the Golden State Warriors took part in Silence the Violence, an outreach event at Oakland Tech High School aimed at teaching kids about youth violence. One of those Warriors was Stephen Jackson, who watched his brother die when he was a small boy, and who is now using his star power to spread a message of peace. Here's the article:

Finally, I have to mention my favorite athlete - Baron Davis. Baron used his talents to get out of the 'hood when he was a teenager. On top of being a great basketball player, he's also a filmmaker. His documentary "Made in America" about the realities of gang life in South Central made it all the way to Sundance this year. Here's him on what he'd tell a young athlete who has managed to get out of the 'hood:
"I’d tell them to take they heart. You know, take what got them out. Take that same drive, that hunger, and use that. As far as what your craft is, you know, be real on the court. Be real on the field. And from that point, look to empower people that want to be empowered in a positive way. But at the same time, keepin’ it real has lost its meaning. ‘Cause being real is being honest with yourself. A lot of guys, you know, they come from bad and negative situations. And sometimes they just want to continue to perpetuate that stereotype. And it’s not cool, ‘cause you don’t make it that way. And me being from the ‘hood—growing up in South Central and being around gangs, and you know, doing everything that I did in my childhood? If it wasn’t for me going the right way, then I probably wouldn’t have made it. You know, if I would have stayed a gangster, or continued to have kept it gangster, I wouldn’t have made it. You know, a lot of times we just have to be honest and real with ourselves and then take that and bring it back to the ‘hood and create positivity in our neighborhoods instead of continuing the negative stereotypes." Warriors make history, again.
With a sell-out crowd, the biggest in Calif. history, and an usual nail-biter game, the Warriors beat the beast from the east. Including a lovely display of the fear-the-beard execution, even without CPT Jack.

Wounded Warriors
I was at the game last night, and it was not pretty. :( My unbeaten home-team is unbeaten no longer in the worst way. Star QB Colt Brennan had a horrid game, so the team didn't get to show what they're made of, and the thousands of fans who made the trip from HI to the Big Easy leave disappointed.

Golden Upset
We Believe has been the motto of Golden State fans who havent had a playoff series win since 1991. Warrior fans who paid a pretty penny for their tickets sure didnt seem to have much use for them. The home crowd rocked Oracle Arena wearing yellow shirts, flashing posters and cranking up the volume for Thursday night's game against the Mavericks. The Warriors made NBA playoff history and sent Mark Cuban and his team on an early summer vacation. Charles Barkley, eat your heart out. The Golden State Warriors will advance to the second round.
