Bolivia South America, The southern region of "Tarija", among many other departments is seeking political and economic autonomy from the federal Bolivian government, headed by president "Evo Morales". Evo Morales and supporters of the new constitution claim racist and separatist ideologies serve as the foundation for the campaigns of the departments seeking autonomy. The departments (States) seeking autonomy, claim administrative negligence and absence of fiscal support for public infrastructure especially in the capitol cities such as "Tarija", and Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Autonomy is a subject we all should consider thinking about as individuals part of every society, anywhere; Autonomy is defined by people taking personal control of their lives, individually and collectively. Bolivia's gas-rich region 'chooses autonomy'
Bolivia's gas-rich Tarija province has voted overwhelmingly in favour of greater autonomy, exit polls suggest. About 80% of the voters in the eastern province backed the measure in a referendum, several pollsters said.
The result is seen as a rejection of left-wing President Evo Morales' drive to redistribute wealth in South America's poorest nation. Tarija is the fourth province to back greater autonomy. The central government says the polls are illegal.
According to several exit polls, just over 80% of voters in Tarija voted Yes in the referendum. However, pollsters say that most supporters of President Morales did not vote. Bolivia takes control of gas firm
The Bolivian government has taken full control of a key gas pipeline company after talks with the foreign firm that held a controlling stake broke down.
President Evo Morales said Transredes had been seized after US company Ashmore Energy International failed to agree to a share buy-back.
Transredes transports Bolivia's natural gas to clients in Brazil and Argentina.
President Morales said Ashmore had agreed to sell some of its 25% share in the firm but that these talks had not led to a deal.
