    • Gen Art NYC Opening and Closing Night Films

“While there are only seven features, the slate represents a wide range of the powerful ideas and genres of independent filmmaking”, says Film Division Vice President, Jeff Abramson. “The slate includes some of the best from other festivals such as Sundance, Slamdance, SXSW and Toronto as well as one world premiere. The slate represents a common theme, of over-coming adversity and finding inner peace in a complicated world through humor, action and exploration."

“Diminished Capacity” by Terry Kinney (produced by Plum Pictures) will open the festival on Wednesday, April 2nd at the Clearview Cinemas’ Ziegfeld Theater (141 West 54th Street). The film stars Matthew Broderick, Alan Alda and Virginia Madsen.

The run of the festival (April 3rd – 8th) including four additional NY Premieres and 1 World Premiere will take place at the Visual Arts Theatre (formerly Clearview Cinemas’ Chelsea West) at 333 West 23rd Street.

Closing night of the festival will be on April 8th, with the dramatic film, “The Take”, by director Brad Furman, starring John Leguizamo, Tyrese Gibson, Bobby Cannavale and Rosie Perez. Closing night also hosts an award ceremony. The “Acura Grand Jury Award” is given to both a feature film and a short, along with a monetary prize of $10,000 and $5,000 respectively. The “Star Gazer Award” honors breakout talent for excellence in acting. Lastly, there is the Gen Art “Film Festival Audience Award” for Best Feature and Best Short, respectively.
