Most Parmigiano Reggiano Wheels Ever Cracked World Record
Whole Foods Market, a leading natural and organic foods supermarket, has announced it will attempt a Guinness World Record™ for "Most Parmigiano Reggiano Wheels Ever Cracked" at the same time to honor the tradition and celebration of this beloved cheese. Stores in the Southern Pacific region plan to celebrate the "Crack Heard Around the World" with wine and cheese pairings that will make cheese lovers swoon.
Saturday, April 12 at 12:00 p.m. will be the official start time for the "cracking open" ceremonies. One Day Food Drive Breaks World Record
Move over Regina. Toronto has just nudged you out – by some 18,800 kilograms – for the title of world record holder in the amount of food donated by a city over 24 hours.
The new record of 119,068 kilograms was raised in one day by the Greater Toronto Apartment Association for the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank, easily smashing the previous Guinness world record of 100,244 kilograms set two years ago by Regina.
"I've always said that Toronto is the greatest city in the world," Bonnie Hoy, co-ordinator of volunteers for the drive, told the cheering throng of some 100 people at the food bank's warehouse on New Toronto St., near Islington Ave., yesterday evening. "And the city just proved it all over again."

So What Are You Going To DO?
What does hunger have to do with poverty? A child who is unequipped to learn because of hunger and poverty is more likely to be poor as an adult. Many adults who receive assistance from Food Banks have to choose between buying food or paying rent. Many senior citizens who receive assistance from food banks have to choose between buying food or paying for medication. (America's Second Harvest - hunger statistics www.secondharvest.org )
Clearly, one small part of getting rid of poverty is feeding the hungry. Helping your local food bank is a good way to combine resources and help your community thrive.
I'm starting a food drive for the SF food bank, and I'm going to show you how easy it is to do it. I will be posting updates regularly on this month-long event.

Feed The World...One neighborhood at a time
America's Second Harvest is a network of food banks across the US. Not only do they provide free food for families to take home, they also assist disaster victims with food supplies.
Some facts:
35 million Americans are hungry (meaning they do not have enough food in their home to feed every person adequately...NOT "hey I could go for some pizza right about now")
31.6% of all households served by the America's Second Harvest Network have had to choose between paying for food and paying for medicine or medical care.
With every one dollar you donate to the food bank, they can provide NINE dollars in food (source: San Francisco Food Bank).
