Greenwashing: "another Inconvenient Truth"
Like the song says, don't believe the hype.
Because of the increasing demand for "green" products, companies have been increasing the "green" claims on their packaging and labels. The products aren't changing or becoming more green, the companies that make them are just focusing on the few things done right, and printing those all over the product, and just ignoring all the non-green aspects of the items. A recent study found that 99.9% of all "green" claims on products committed one of the six sins of greenwashing.
And besides...as the author points out, being more green really means consuming less, rather than just consuming something different that claims to be eco-friendly. Like the song says, don't believe the hype. ... more -

One Lightbulb to Change the World
Fast Company is such a cool magazine, and I'm especially a fan of Charles Fishman's articles. I am happy to say that my landlord already had florescent bulbs in the house when I moved in, and since I've been there 4 years, I think we've had only 2 bulbs in the whole house burn out. I wouldn't be surprised if the bulbs stayed at the house longer than I do. And after all the things I don't like about Walmart, it's nice to see them do at least one thing right.
