    • Fixing the infected Win 2008 and Win 2009 Antivirus. First Protect your computer a...

The link provided from Microsoft to fix the problem did not fix the problem, it did however
show me what the problem was and how I might fix it with other solutions, hence the reason for the link. This is a long, long, story, however I will do my best to reduce the pain
as much as possible. The microsoft solution is a 30 day free trial. I just don't recommend it
because it takes forever to load and it doesn't fix the problem.

Had a friend get this virus on her computer so I said I would attempt to fix it however
my recommendation was to buy another computer and keep the old infected one off line
so she could make sure she did not give it to someone else.

How did she get this infection in the first place?

My guess is it is a small prompt pop up which means she did not have pop up blocker on,
which is very important. Anyway, the pop up comes on the screen and tells you that you may have a problem and the Win Antivirus is the solution. They make the virus look like it is
the solution to something you already have and then when you click on the pop up to get the help, guess what, you just infected your computer.

8 hours later I found a few working solutions as the virus fights you for control of the CPU
thus restricting your efforts to fix the problem. Then it becomes who do you trust to tell you
the true. Microsoft wants you to load something that takes up a ton of space and takes forever to download. Then they show you a security patch that costs money.

Most other sites show a fix that will cost money and the question becomes how many do you pay before you solve the problem. For me it is always none.

Yes the free downloads do gain access to the computer but if they fix the problem, I say,
who cares. You could pay to fix this deceptive nightmare and still not fix the problem.

You do need to ask yourself what is your time worth.

I have $450 to $500 for a like new laptop or PC these days so at some point my advise is get a new computer and keep the old one. I will do my best to clean it up after the new one is up and running. My feeling is everyone could use another desktop, or at least a laptop.

Whatever you do, don't save your profile names and passwords on anything. That is what these deceptive weasels are after.

Keeep your security high and keep your pop up blocker on.

If you need help, just write me, I am going to write down every move I made to fix the problem. Happy to share that info. with any friend.

    • Google Chrome web browser released

Are Internet Explorer and Firefox ready to do battle with Chrome?

Google announced Monday that it has been hard at work on an open-source browser known as Chrome, a beta version of which will be released in 100 countries on Tuesday.

New features will included "isolated" tabs designed to prevent browser crashes and a more powerful JavaScript engine.

"Why are we launching Google Chrome? Because we believe we can add value for users and, at the same time, help drive innovation on the web," Sundar Pichai, vice president of product management, and Linus Upson, Google engineering director, wrote in a blog post.

Google was apparently looking to keep news of Chrome under wraps until after the holiday weekend. A 38-page, online comic book that provided details about Chrome hit the blogosphere Monday morning, but Pichai and Upson said in their blog post that Google had "hit 'send' a bit early" on the web comic.

The comic depicts various Google engineers describing Chrome's features, including the isolated tab idea.

"By keeping each tab in an isolated 'sandbox', we were able to prevent one tab from crashing another and provide improved protection from rogue sites," Pichai and Upson wrote.

Having a number of tabs open in a single browser eats up memory. If a browser is running slow, a user's natural inclination is to close a few tabs? In some cases, however, little bits of the closed tabs remain, which eats up space and requires the operating system to grow the browser's address space, according to Google. With Chrome, there will be a different tab for each process, including plug-ins.

"When a tab is closed in Google Chrome, you're ending the whole process," according to the comic. "You can look under the hood with Google Chrome's task mananger to see what sites are using the most memory, downloading the most bytes and abusing your CPU" so you can place "blame where blame belongs."

Google also promised "improved speed and responsiveness across the board."

"We also built a more powerful JavaScript engine, V8, to power the next generation of web applications that aren't even possible in today's browsers," Pichai and Upson wrote.

Like OpenSocial and Android, Chrome will be an open source initiative.

"We owe a great debt to many open source projects, and we're committed to continuing on their path," they wrote. "We've used components from Apple's WebKit and Mozilla's Firefox, among others -- and in that spirit, we are making all of our code open source as well. We hope to collaborate with the entire community to help drive the web forward."

The team selected Webkit because it uses memory efficiently, was easily adapated to embedded devices, and it was easy for new browser developers to learn to make the code base work, according to the web comic. "Webkit keeps it simple."

Google recently extended its financial deal with Mozilla until 2011, according to a blog post from Mitchell Baker, chair of the Mozilla Foundation.

Tuesday's beta release will be available for Windows users. "We're hard at work building versions for Mac and Linux too, and will continue to make it even faster and more robust," Pichai and Upson wrote.

"This is just the beginning -- Google Chrome is far from done," they wrote. "Google Chrome is another option, and we hope it contributes to making the web even better."

Last week, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 8 beta 2, which includes improved security and new browsing aids.

Earlier this summer, Mozilla released Firefox 3, which garnered 8 million downloads in 24 hours.

    • Internet Explorer 8 to get 'privacy mode'

Microsoft is planning a "privacy mode" for the next release of its Internet Explorer (IE) web browser.
By clicking a button, users of IE8 will be able to limit how much information is recorded about where they go online and what they do.
Microsoft watchers have spotted two patent applications covering ways to manage the amount of information a browser logs.
When introduced the privacy mode will match features found on other browsers.

    • Internet Explorer scuppers UK iPhone launch

Apple suffered a monumental knock-back this morning when staff at their flagship store on Regent Street, London were unable to activate any of the brand new 3G iPhones as the mobile operator O2's system runs on the rival Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

The new iPhone, which launched today amidst much fanfare, had a large crowd of exciteable geeks waiting patiently to purchase it. Sadly for them, Apple were forced to turn them away empty handed until the situation could be solved...

      Quest'ultima opzione è consigliata a tutti.

    • Study: Firefox users most secure on Internet

"Mozilla Firefox users are most secure on the Internet, according to a new web study appeared in media reported on Thursday.

The study - a collaborative effort by researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Google and IBM Internet Security Services - found that failure to update browsers exponentially increased the chance for remote attacks executed by hackers, but some 60 percent (59.1) of people used up-to-date, fully patched Web browsers.

Firefox users were far and away the most likely to use the latest version, with an overwhelming 83.3 percent running an updated browser on any given day.

Meanwhile, Microsoft's Internet Explorer users ranked last in terms of safe browsing."

In other Firefox news, Mozilla's web browser has become the Guinness World Records most downloaded software in one day.

    • Web Browsers: Speed Testing the Latest Web Browsers

"Read the hype on every new web browser released or due out this year, and you'll see claims that every one of them is "faster" than all the others. You could compare super-specific tests and decipher all the code-brain terminology, and you'd still be left wondering which browser starts quicker, uses less memory, and slides through dynamic interfaces like Gmail the fastest. Since our squadron of independent analysts had the week off, we ran the latest editions of Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera 9.5, and Safari for Windows through some unscientific but highly geeky tests ourselves on a plain old Windows computer. Take a look at the full (and somewhat unexpected) results after the jump." Maybe not as good as having IE right next to you for checking browser compatibility, but don't need to touch Windows!

      More from the site:

"IE NetRenderer allows you to check how a website is rendered by Internet Explorer 7, 6 or 5.5, as seen from a high speed datacenter located in Germany. Just type in a URL in the field above and try it out - it's free!"
