    • Music - A Composer Forever English, Cow Pats and All - NYTimes.com

"A WELL-PLACED barb can affect an artist’s reputation forever, even when credit for the insult is uncertain. Philip Heseltine, an English critic who composed under the name Peter Warlock, is said to have likened “A Pastoral Symphony” (Symphony No. 3) by his countryman, Ralph Vaughan Williams, to a cow staring over a fence."

Actually, that makes it seem interesting. I like Bovine Classical Music.

"Aaron Copland is supposed to have said that listening to Vaughan Williams’s Symphony No. 5 was like staring at a cow for 45 minutes."

      Moo.

    • Bjork/Antony/Oldham Arranger Nico Muhly Preps LP

In just a little over a quarter century on this earth, Nico Muhly has collaborated with the lofty likes of Philip Glass, Björk, Antony, Will Oldham, the National, Rufus Wainwright, and many others. Which, of course, makes the rest of us mid-twenty-somethings feel both lazy and mildly angry. • U.S. national anthem to be played in N Korea

New York's Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the U.S. national anthem at its historic concert in North Korea on 26 February. The Philharmonic's president says that this concert will show how "music can unite."

Don't freak out, they will be playing other music too. The N. Korean anthem and Gershwin's "American in Paris" are also on the program.

Is it kinda weird to make this historic journey to play this monumental concert, and your program consists of the U.S. national anthem? Shouldn't the NY Philharmonic branch out a bit, show the world we aren't "U.S.centric?"

    • Reducing Crime, One Fugue at a Time

The City Attorney's office of Sacramento is forcing the owners of "Prit Market and Liquor" to install better lighting, as well as speakers that would play classical music during business hours. By doing this, they hope to repel illegal activity in that area, which has been called a magnet for crime.
