Salumi Meat Society
Chris Cosentino is the head chef of San Francisco-based restaurant Incanto, and a former contestant on Iron Chef America. He is eccentric, charismatic and firm in his beliefs about cooking (includng Offal cooking, which means using all of the parts of an animal, including the heart, spine, kidneys, etc.). He is a meat lover and has created a company called Boccalone, which delivers cured meats on a weekly basis. Members of the Salumi society get together on weekends to taste these hand made artisan meats, much like a wine tasting club tastes wines. 'Modern Toilet' Restaurant Sounds Awesome
"As a man who frequently blogs and eats his lunch on the john, I know all about the benefits of canning your food (!). And now there's a restaurant in Taiwan that is cashing in on what I've known for years -- eating on the throne is the shit (!).
Patrons sit on toilets for seats and eat food off covered sinks and bathtubs. The food is served in a mini-toilet bowls and patrons drink out of mini travel potties. To finish the atmosphere, toilet paper is provided in the place of napkins.
"It's really unusual, so special that it doesn't gross me out," said Betty Tsai, 16, a Taipei high school sophomore trying Modern Toilet for the first time on a friend's recommendation.
But for a few customers, the toilet humor is too much. "My son thought it was disgusting and didn't know if he could finish his food," said Taipei mother Lin Li-ju.
Wow, Lin Li-ju, it sounds like your son has a problem. Namely that he was born with a vagina and doesn't know how to appreciate the finer things in life. Seriously, if I had one of those oldschool TV-dinner stands I don't think I'd ever leave the bathroom. So yeah, I once saw a little kid at Home Depot urinate in one of the unplumbed toilets they had on display. I wonder if they have similar problems here. Well, my legs are going numb, time to get up.

Table for 6,000? No problem - Syrian restaurant takes 'world's biggest' title
The 6,012-seat Damascus Gate has taken the accolade from a Bangkok eatery serving a mere 5,000 diners. The crucial test for Guinness World Record officials is all the tables are properly catered for, and they likened the Syrian kitchen to a "mini-factory".
During the busy summer months up to 1,800 staff are employed in the 54,000 sq-m dining area and 2,500 sq-m kitchen.

Calories counts brought to New York Menus
Fast food chains in New York are now being required to post the calories of their items.
Restaurants like McDonald's and TGI Fridays will have the calorie counts of each meal on their menu.
One customer commented:
"Everyone knows that fast food isn't good for you, but it doesn't stop people queuing up," he said. "People who count calories probably don't come here for lunch anyway."
A study earlier this year said that 44% of Americans, and 45% of Britons liked fast food "too much to give it up."

Bulli beats Duck in restaurants awards
El Bulli, Ferran Adria's gastronomic temple north of Barcelona, is the world's best restaurant, followed by the Fat Duck, near London, and Pierre Gagnaire, in Paris, according to Restaurant magazine.
The top three are unchanged for the third year in a row in the S. Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards. El Bulli has been in the trio since the London-based awards started in 2002 and the Fat Duck has been in the top two for five consecutive years.

Cool, organic documentary film follows a day in the life of Houston, America's 4th largest city. Light on dialog and narration, the story is told through strong cinematography, editorial and a few words from famous Houstonians. The film is one of a series of city-based documentary films created by commercial director W. Ross Wells and producer/writer Merideth Melville of Zenfilm.
Cinematographers Raul Casares and Wayne Forster both made artistic contributions to the film. As did Gaffer Richard Lacy and 1st ACs Justin Deguire and Sara Bowman.
One Day in Houston features cameo appearances by Heavyweight Champ George Forman, African American ballet pioneer Lauren Anderson, Designer and Project Runway winner Chloe Dao, Grammy winners Yolanda Adams and Johnny Nash to name a few. Musical highlights feature jazz violinist Michael Ward and a performance by Beetle at Houston's famous Continental Club. One Day in Houston was commissioned by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitor's Bureau and funded in part by a grant from Continental Airlines.
