"The Decider" Decides To Do (Basically) Nothing on Global Warming
I suppose one could consider it progress that Bush is even attending any sorts of meetings on climate change (although he skipped the one at the U.N. on Monday). But the president still doesn't seem to comprehend the urgency of the situation. The meetings of the world's biggest polluters arranged by the White House will "emphasize creating more processes to find a solution to global warming", but will not set any firm emissions reductions goals. Bush is joined by several other huge polluters who don't want mandatory emissions cuts as called for by the U.N.A British official said Bush's plan for a voluntary approach to global warming is as effective as voluntary speed limits, and even the usually restrained Associated Press offers a pointed headline: Bush Climate Goals Marked by Bureaucracy.
