Come on down and support local independent filmmaking. Thanks! VINYL APOCALYPSE: New and Original Art on Vinyl
Many have lamented the slow fade of vinyl records. Even if you were born after the rise of the CD, it's easy to get nostalgic about the warm crackle of the spinning turntable or the large-scale beauty of album art. Lower Haters' newest show is a record reconnaissance, bringing vinyl into the digital age without diminishing its traditional pleasures. More than 30 local artists have turned shiny black discs into canvases, flooding the grooves with paint. At the opening, DJs TopCat, Romanowski, and Enki put their vinyl to use the old-fashioned way.

Former S.F. Supervisor Matt Gonzalez to run with Nader
"Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader named Matt Gonzalez, a former San Francisco Board of Supervisors president and 2003 mayoral contender, as his running mate today.
The consumer activist introduced Gonzalez as his vice-presidential candidate at a news conference in Washington, D.C.
"I have no illusions about what's happening here today," Gonzalez said at the news conference at the National Press Club, referring to the long-shot nature of their independent candidacy. But he added, "I've never entered a political contest with the idea that it couldn't be won."
He also said he also believed he had moved debates leftward in previous runs for office, including his 2003 mayoral campaign.
Nader said he got to know Gonzalez during a 2005 anti-Iraq war campaign in which they traveled up and down California. Gonzalez, an attorney, also worked on ballot access issues for Nader's 2004 presidential bid, when the candidate was listed in just 34 states.
"He has a great, steadfast commitment to justice," Nader told The Chronicle after the press conference. "He's shown it in his work on the Board of Supervisors, he's shown it in his work on criminal justice issues, electoral reform and his work in urban politics and problems."
Nader added, "He's a beautiful writer, he's an artist, he's a man for all seasons and he's got a great political future."
Gonzalez said in an interview that he and Nader had discussed the possibility of joining on a presidential ticket for several weeks.
"Ralph Nader is going to run whether I join him or not," he said. "But if I'm his running mate, then I can put at the forefront election issues, election reforms that I worked on in San Francisco. I think that can have an impact on the race."
Gonzalez, 42, was elected supervisor in December 2000 from San Francisco's District 5, serving the Haight Ashbury, Inner Sunset and Western Addition, and served for the final two years of his tenure as president of the board. He narrowly lost the 2003 mayoral election to Gavin Newsom. Since leaving office in January 2005, he has practiced civil law and exhibited his collage artwork in local galleries."
