China Bans Western Religious Music
The Daily Telegraph reports the Chinese government has dramatically tightened controls over the arts and Christianity in recent months, affecting many large performances and groups, including the Academy of Ancient Music, one of Britain’s leading orchestral and choral groups, who were invited to sing The Messiah at the Beijing International Music Festival in October. Though their performance will still go ahead, it has been made “by invitation only” to get round the ban - invitations which apparently include, ironically, members of the Politburo and other senior government leaders.

Chinese and UK films bag film prizes in North Korea
Now this is a bizarre story, mostly since I didn't know there even is an international film festival going on in the infamously reclusive North Korea, but it seems that at least for Chinese cinema this year, the Pyongyang International Film Festival is where it's at. 'The Assembly', by well-known Chinese director Feng Xiaogang was awarded the best film and best director prizes at the festival this year. The film tells of the heroics of a group of Communist soldiers at the end of the Chinese civil war in the late 1940s, and has already made it as a big hit in China. The award comes as a particularly surprise, according to Reuters, as relationships between the two countries have frosted over somewhat in recent years, particularly following N. Korea's commencement a controversial nuclear program.
Other films honored included the UK's 'Atonement' and Iran's 'Mainline'.
Apparently the country's leader, Kim Jong-il, is an avid film buff and fan of Daffy Duck, Steven Spielberg and Elizabeth Taylor. Intelligence sources have even revealed that he is thought to have a library of about 20,000 films that includes all of the James Bond movies. Heather Locklear locked up for alleged DUI in California
actress Heather Locklear was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving while impaired, TMZ.com reported.
The 47-year-old star was pulled over by California Highway Patrol in the Santa Barbara area after a resident reported seeing the actress leave a parking lot and “driving erratically,” CHP spokesman Tom Marshall told the Associated Press.
The officer then noticed Locklears car parked on a state highway, blocking a lane in Montecito, a city 90 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The actress was believed to be alone in the car, Marshall said.
"In talking with her, (the officer) determines that she seems to be under the influence of something," Marshall said.
Locklear was taken to the police station, where she was tested for alcohol and drugs.
She was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription medication and was later released from custody.
Calls to her publicists were not immediately returned.
Locklear checked into a medical clinic in June to seek treatment for anxiety and depression.
Last year, she got a divorce from Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora after 11 years of marriage. They have a daughter, Ava Elizabeth. actress Heather Locklear was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving while impaired, TMZ.com reported. ... more
