    • Mr Metrosexual Frank Lampard is all made up as he celebrates Chelsea's victor...

It was more than just a glow of victory that brightened Frank Lampard's face during a party at London's Funky Buddha last night.

The football star looked to have applied a touch of make-up before heading off to celebrate Chelsea's 4-0 victory over Bordeaux.

But it appears metrosexual Frank needs to polish up his handiwork - the end result turned his face a peculiar, not to mention startling, shade of orange.

    • Terry wins appeal to face Man Utd

Chelsea captain Terry was sent off with 13 minutes remaining on Saturday

Chelsea captain John Terry has been cleared to play against Manchester United on Sunday after his appeal against a red card proved successful.

Terry was sent off for a foul on Manchester City striker Jo, but a Football Association hearing upheld Chelsea's claim of wrongful dismissal. He received a straight red from Mark Halsey, with the referee deeming the incident to be serious foul play.

The England skipper had been set to miss three games.

Had the ban been enforced, Terry would have missed Sunday's crucial Premier League clash with champions United, as well as the Carling Cup tie against Portsmouth on 24 September and the league encounter with Stoke three days later.

The foul on Jo occurred inside the centre circle, with Terry's centre-back partner Ricardo Carvalho covering the play and full-back Jose Bosingwa also sprinting back to defend.

But Halsey's decision to issue a red card for serious foul play rather than a professional foul meant the position on the pitch and the presence of other players were not relevant. Serious foul play is classed as when a player "uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is play".

    • Cocaine-sniffing footballer ordered to pay £13.68m compensation

FIFA have ordered ex-Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu to pay the club a record-blowing £13.68million in compensation after he tested positive for cocaine whilst playing there.

Mutu failed a drugs test in 2004 and was subsequently banned for seven months before moving to Juventus and Fiorentina after getting the boot from Chelsea.

Chelsea FC said that they were "delighted with the DRC's decision to award the club £13.68million in compensation."

      I bet they were.

    • Report: Kaka to Chelsea for world record fee

Kaka is heading for Premier League Chelsea, according to a close advisor of the Brazilian international superstar.

The AC Milan playmaker would be re-united with his former national team manager Luiz Felipe Scolari at Stamford Bridge if a deal is brokered, with reports suggesting a world record fee of around $160,000 million.

Scolari handed Kaka his Brazil debut at the age of 20 and included him in the squad which won the 2002 World Cup.

The arrival of Ronaldinho at AC Milan from Barcelona this week may have also precipitated Kaka's departure from the San Siro, his personal assistant Dieogo Kotscho told The Guardian.

"Real Madrid offered 90 million euros ($142.6 million) last summer and Milan did not even think about the bid," Kotscho was quoted.

"This time is different. This is the first time we feel that a deal will definitely happen.

"Because of the situation Milan are in at the moment, the deal is good for all parties involved," he claimed.

Chelsea have also been linked with Kaka's Brazil international teammate Robinho at Real Madrid as they step up their challenge to Manchester United who beat them to both the Premier League and Champions League last season.

"Chelsea are the club to be at right now. They are building a team to win everything," said Kotscho.

Kaka has only recently returned to Europe after having minor surgery on his knee in his native Brazil.

Any deal for the 26-year-old would shatter the current world record transfer of £91.94 million when Real Madrid signed Zinedine Zidane from Juventus in 2001.

Portuguese football coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has been appointed as the new manager of Chelsea, with him officially taking the position on July 1st, two days after the Euro 2008 final.

According to reports, Scolari was always Chelsea's number one choice to fill Avram Grant's boots, but has insisted no more discussions should take place until his current team, Portugal, have concluded their run in the Euro 2008 tournament.

Speaking in a statement last night, Chelsea FC said:

    • Terry's tears lasted too long in defeat to be true captain material

THE sporting picture of this year without doubt is the image of John Terry with tears chasing raindrops down his face after the penalty shoot-out miss that condemned Chelsea to defeat in the Champions League final.

It was a pitiful sight to see a self-styled strongman lose all control of his emotions.

The pity lay not in the fact he cried but that he cried for so long, that he could find no way to stop the flood of tears.

Only once previously had I seen a huge man of sport collapse so completely. That was the champion rower Matthew Pinsent, when he captured a fourth Olympic gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Pinsent was consumed by a waterfall of tears when the race was narrowly won, and then again when he stepped on to the podium to receive his golden prize. As the national anthem played, he hung his head in a vain attempt to hide his loss of control.

The experience prompted Pinsent to quit his sport. He could not go through the emotional mangle again, not even with the possibility of a fifth Olympic gold medal to equal Sir Steve Redgrave.

Pinsent’s tears were shed in triumph. Another sporting knight, Sir Bobby Charlton, did the same in the Manchester United dressing room after the Champions League final last Wednesday night in Moscow. Charlton has an old-fashioned view that you cry in victory but not defeat.

It is tempting to many of us, I suspect, to agree with the view that tears of joy for victors are preferable to tears of despair from runners-up.

But that isn’t the modern way. Terry was one of several England footballers who were tearful after the penalty shoot-out defeat by Portugal in the quarter-finals of the 2006 World Cup.

    • Mancester United win the Champions League

Manchester United won the Champions League after beating Chelsea 6-5 on penalties after a dramatic 1-1 draw.

Cristiano Ronaldo headed United in front after 26 minutes but Frank Lampard equalised before the interval.

Lampard and Didier Drogba hit the woodwork for Chelsea before the striker was sent off in extra-time for slapping United defender Nemanja Vidic.

Ronaldo missed his penalty for United, but John Terry hit the post and Edwin van der Sar saved from Nicolas Anelka.

It sparked wild celebrations for Sir Alex Ferguson and his players in the Moscow rain as United lifted Europe's major club trophy 50 years on from the Munich air crash and repeated their previous successes in 1968 and 1999.

Chelsea captain Terry had to be consoled by boss Avram Grant as he broke down in tears after missing the penalty that would have given his side the trophy.

He slipped in his run-up on turf made treacherous by a torrential downpour and sent his kick against the upright.

    • Man. Utd crowned champions of Europe

Manchester United have won the UEFA Champions League after an epic red vs. blue penalty shootout following a tense 1-1 game.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Man Utd with a neatly headed ball in to the far corner, followed by a Frank Lampard equallser on the stroke of half-time slotting it past Van der Saar.

Five minutes before the end of extra time, Didier Drogba got sent off for attempting a cheeky little slap on Man Utd's Vidic, a price that proved to be a costly mistake in the penalty shoot-out which saw Manchester United take it 6-5 in penalties.

    • Chelsea Clinton Keeps Feminist Hope Alive (While McCain Helps Kill it)

In a year when womens' pay has actually gone down relative to men’s, John McCain voted against the Equal Pay bill, which was killed in the senate on Wednesday night. To add insult to injury, he said that what women really needed was “education and training." Tell that to the many woman with strings of letters after their names, that are still getting paid less than their equally, or lesser qualified male counterparts for similar work.

On the up side, listen to Chelsea Clinton's incredibly erudite thoughts on the subject, which she gave in an off-the-cuff response to a tough audience question during an Open Thread campaign appearance in support of her mom at Duke University. Has Hillary sold-out her feminist principles? McCain has certainly sold out his (that's if he ever had any in the first place.) Given the values Hillary’s obviously instilled in her daughter, we think her feminist heart is in the right place.

    • This isn't American football ... it's football.

On the one hand I think it's awesome. Having been in the U.S. for seven years and only getting to watch a game lying on the sofa on a weekend morning, the idea of seeing the red scum (Manchester United) get their northern behinds spanked by my beloved Chelsea in amazing real-life-o-vision is more than appealing.

On the other hand I can't help but wonder if this means that we're going to see cheerleaders, ticker tape and some pop celebrity come on at half time to entertain us. America has already shown us that it is more interested in celebrity rather than the sport as is the case with the Beckham move.

No one here cares about football, right? So why bother putting two teams on a plane flying them across the pond for one game in the middle of the season. The top flight teams have enough on their plate with, ... well, let's see, the Premiership, the Champions League, Carling Cup and of course, the F.A. Cup. They don't even get a break at Christmas let alone time off to play a game in a country that couldn't care less.

It seems to me that this is a case of greedy foreign investors thinking about their pockets and pretending to promote the game. My point is that just because the NFL is doing it, it doesn't mean that we should.
