Father kills daughters and calls ex-girlfriend before committing suicide
David Cass, a 32-year-old mechanic, is suspected of smothering his two daughters before ringing his ex-girlfriend to tell her their "babies had gone to sleep forever" and apparently committing suicide. The tragedy happened during Cass's first weekend with three-year-old Ellie and one-year-old Isobel, three weeks after splitting from his partner, Kerrie Hughes.
The three bodies were discovered in the run-down caravan he had made home in the car park of the MOT garage where he worked in Southampton, which was cornered off on Monday by forensic police.
Hampshire police were called to Kerrie Hughes' home in Eastleigh, near Southampton on Sunday evening, just as the children were supposed to be returning home with their father. Her neighbour Valerie Frazier said she received a fraught phone call from the worried 20-year-old mother-of-two. "At about 6.30pm, Kerrie had a phone call from her ex-partner saying that the babies had gone to sleep forever, and then he hung up," said Mrs Frazier, 61. "She rang here, crying really hard, so I went over and called the police. We tried to ring David two or three times on his phone, but of course it rang out. Kerrie was hysterical, she kept saying 'he's killed them, he's killed them', but I didn't believe it. Then the police came round and told her children had been found. They also told her David had been found. After that, she just went into total shock, she couldn't talk, she couldn't stand up – she just sat there."

Insane diver dives 35 ft into 12 inches of water
Darren Taylor, or Professor Splash as he likes to be known, has smashed his own world record for the highest dive into just 12 inches of water. This is now the third time he's broken his previous Guinness World Record.
Apparently he uses a kind of belly flop technique, which he claims helps him "skip across the water" as he's landing. Quite how I'm not sure.
But, like any true pro he's keen to offer out a word of wisdom to any wannabe Professor Splashs, saying that the key to his success is "experience and research" and that, unsurprisingly, what he does isn't easy.

This week the Conservative Party Home Affairs Spokesman, David Davis, resigned his parliamentary seat in the constituency of Haltemprice and Howden, which includes Hull in the east to the outskirts of Goole in the west and northwards to Holme-on-Spalding-Moor.
Davis resigned in protest at the fast-emerging Big Brother State (which I have warned was coming for the last nearly 20 years). The final straw for Davis was the passing recently of a law that allows the authorities to hold ‘terrorist suspects’ for 42 days without charge. He resigned and will seek to return to Parliament in this by-election next month on the issue of the Big Brother society.
Britain’s other major political parties, the Liberal Democrats and the governing Labour Party of Tony Blair and current Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, have announced that they won’t be standing against him. The Liberals say they are doing this because they support his stand and the Labour Party say they won’t put up a candidate because the election is 'a farce’. For ‘a farce’ read: ‘We know we would get slaughtered because of the massive scale of public opinion against the gathering Big Brother state.’

US Marine kills puppy by throwing it off a cliff for no reason
It didn’t take long for internet sleuths to track down the perp. David Motari, the Marine accused of pitching a puppy off a cliff for the sheer psychopathic fun of it, is a member of the Bebo social network. Although the network requires registration to view member profiles, an enterprising researcher was able to login and screen capture Motari’s profile
Motari is a Lance corporal, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, stationed at Haqlaniyah, Iraq, and based out of the Marine Corps Base at Kaneohe, Hawaii. He is from Seattle, Washington.
“Don’t have to follow nobodies (sic) footsteps,” writes the Marine on his Bebo profile. “I’m makin my own, fully grown, and this life is my own.” Motari tells us he is “happiest when… Chillin out, sleeping, playing sport, hittin the gym, hangin with friends, with my family, at home, fridays, eating, running, cruisin, and defintely (sic) when I get out of the marine corps!” He forgot to add he is especially happy when emulating Jeffrey Dahmer, who also shared a penchant for torturing and killing small defenseless animals.
“There is no way to know for sure if the puppy is real or not unless you are the one who produced it,” explains Charlie Powell, College of Veterinary Medicine, Washington State University.

US Marine throws a puppy off of a clip for no reason
An online video that appears to show a U.S. Marine flinging a puppy from the top of a steep hillside in Iraq continued to generate revulsion and outrage yesterday.

Marine Corps Base Hawai'i is investigating the actions because the video may have involved a Hawai'i Marine with the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. The unit returned from Iraq in October.
It remains to be determined whether the video is genuine or a hoax.
"I understand people's outrage," said Maj. Chris Perrine, a spokesman at the Kane'ohe Bay base. "I think every Marine is outraged by the video, and what I would do is encourage people to support our constitutional process and treat people as innocent till proven guilty and let the process run its course."
Thousands have viewed the 17-second video at www.YouTube.com. By last night, 156 people had posted comments - most of them directing extreme anger at the Marine in the video — on a story yesterday in The Advertiser.
Retired Hawai'i Air National Guard Maj. Gen. Albert "Putt" Richards said if the video proves to be valid, one or more Marines "should not be in uniform due to a severe personality disorder."
"If it is a contrived video, I question the stability of the minds that put it together," Richards said, adding that if he were their immediate commander, he would order a psychiatric evaluation.
The Humane Society of the United States wrote a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates yesterday noting what appears to be "a U.S. Marine tossing a yelping puppy over a precipice" in the video.
"We understand that the Marine in the videotape is identifiable, and we therefore expect the Department of Defense to investigate and take swift and appropriate disciplinary action," the letter said.
A Marine in the video identifies the man tossing what appears to be a black and white puppy as "Motari."
The Kane'ohe Bay base previously said a Lance Cpl. David Motari is with the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, but officials said they couldn't confirm Motari was in the video.
"He's here," Perrine said yesterday. "I don't know what he's doing on an hourly basis, but he is here."
As part of the investigation, the Marines will attempt to determine if the video is a hoax or the puppy already was dead.
Ashley Maynard, a psychologist and faculty member at the University of Hawai'i, said the visceral reaction demonstrated by so many to the video may be due in part to people being more accustomed to seeing violence against people in war, while puppies are seen as pets.
"So in the context of war, we may be appalled at some of the things that are happening, but we can also justify violence to humans as being something that is part of the war," Maynard said. "But an innocent little puppy is really a bystander to all of this." So going willingly on advise from her psych and family, Britney Spears was hospitalized at UCLA Medical Center for a psychiatric hold early Thursday morning, after being transported by ambulance from her Studio City home around 1 a.m.
An LAPD source tells PEOPLE: "Spears was escorted by police and is on her way to get help." The singer, 26, was transported to UCLA for a 72-hour emergency hold, known as a 5150.
