Iranian Student Protests of July, 1999 (18th Tir of year 1378 in the Persian calendar) were the "worst", most widespread and violent public protests in Iran, since the early years of the Iranian Revolution
They began on July 8 with peaceful demonstrations in Tehran against the closure of the reformist newspaper, Salam. This was followed by an attack on a student dormitory that night by vigilantes and riot police in which a student was killed. This in turn sparked six days of demonstrations and rioting in which at least three more people were killed and more than 200 injured.
Following the Iran student riots in 1999, more than seventy students disappeared. In addition, to an estimated 1,200-1,400 detained, the "whereabouts and condition" of five students named by Human Rights Watch remained unknown, but are believed to be detained by Islamic authorities. Who are these Libertarians, and why should we care?
[U]nderstanding libertarianism is vital if the United States is ever to reverse the current 100-year trend away from freedom. What most Americans don’t know is that libertarianism is simply the modern political label given to the philosophy that the United States was founded upon. It is the philosophy of individual liberty. Without rediscovering what that means, the United States may soon be a glorious experiment with self governance by a free people that ultimately devolved into just one more socialist mediocrity or authoritarian nightmare...
... While most Americans still consider the United States the “land of the free,” few probably understand that “free” means individual liberty. Most Americans in 2008 have either never heard of individual liberty, or haven’t heard about it in so long that they have forgotten what it means. After decades of immersion in collectivist ideology, most Americans have been led to believe that freedom is “democracy.” Most Americans are content to be told that they are free, so long as the evening news explains why the most recent decisions made about their lives are really in their best interests. They are content to derive their “freedom” from government.
Imagine the presidential campaign of 1796 with today’s political frontrunners and today’s American psyche. John McCain is promising a generous helping of warfare, without neglecting essential welfare. Barack Obama is promising a generous helping of welfare, without neglecting essential warfare (at least on behalf of Israel). As these two titans battle for the prize, Thomas Jefferson, the Libertarian candidate, and John Adams, the Constitution Party candidate, answer the occasional question from the debate moderator in those states where they are able to get onto the ballot and into the debates at all. What might our country have become if this had been reality in 1796? What is it becoming now?
Certainly there will not be a Libertarian Party candidate elected president in 2008, nor likely in 2012 or 2016. The most successful LP candidate for president was Ed Clark in the 1980 election, with a whopping 1% of the vote. While it would be wonderful to see the Libertarian political party gain prominence and power, this is not the essential priority. What is much more important is that the American people start rediscovering libertarianism, the philosophy of individual liberty, and once again start demanding to be free. Libertarianism must again dominate the platforms of all political parties, as it once did, if the present trends toward socialism and authoritarianism are to reverse. Only when a libertarian Republican runs against a libertarian Democrat, with perhaps even a libertarian third party candidate in contention, will we have a chance to restore the freedom that fueled America’s mercurial rise to greatness. Only by restoring individual liberty will America return to prosperity, and once again become the land of the free.

911 Coincidences? You be the judge and tell a friend!
Many people on this site have commented on videos relating to 9/11. There is a stigma created by mainstream media and the Bush Administration that anyone who believes in conspiracy theories surrounding 9/11 are crazy.
Please do not allow this kind of thing to continue. There is so much evidence out there about the real events of 9/11 and who was involved and why that if open and public hearings were to be held in congress without the interference of the Bush Administration, I believe that the country would be completely shocked and a total loss of confidence in the government would be experienced on a massive scale. It is no wonder that plans for "Continuity of Government" and "Private Armies, Navies, Air Force, and Space Forces" have been bought and paid for through "Black Operations" that receive billions of dollars in financial support every year. This is being done so guilty will have private military forces to protect them from us; the citizens of the United States who will be outraged to find out that the conspiracy was real.
This administration and other ones surely to come will continue with the plans already outlined for them; they will not be dissuaded.
Although I am not advocating open revolt, I am making a prediction here and now; that by 2012, if the planet hasn't caused extensive damage to the human population by then, our country could be embroiled in yet a second civil war.
They may think that people are just going to accept them, the guilty and complicit Administration, Senators and Congressmen who have either openly participated in the con job or have not had the spine and backbone to step up to the plate and support Impeachment hearings against Cheney and Bush, will just take it and move on because of "stimulus payments" or any other bribe to keep them quite has got a lot of rethinking to do. People are mad as hell and they just aren't going to take it anymore.
I see the whole thing coming to a head after this next election, especially if Obama is somehow not elected, gets assassinated, or turns out to have been lying to us all and is himself a Neo-Con masquerading as a moderate. Anyone of these three could be the hair trigger that could ignite the conflict.
I have also read and seen people posting a more positive vision of the future, one that manifests in spite of the chaos that revelations of massive government conspiracies would illicit. I really do hope that this is the real future that awaits us, peace and transcendence. But could the promise of yet another Nirvana just be part of the "Con" perpetrated by the same individuals who want us not to put up a fight and take America Back?
I don't know, you be the judge of that one for sure. I certainly don't want to tread on anyones faith. But faith needs to be tempered with reason, and viewing the evidence and being part of the jury should be the duty of every American. Watch the evidence and then judge for yourself. Tom Friedman calls for green revolution
From the Huffington Post, Danny Shea writes about Tom Friedman's call for a Green Revolution.
The world is becoming hot and crowded due to global warming and population growth. Friedman argues that the growing middle classes around the globe will require a growing amount of energy and food, while biodiversity will vastly diminish.
Friedman says that humankind is entering a "Energy-Climate Era". In his new book "Hot, Flat, and Crowded," Friedman explores how a green revolution can impact humankind.

Secrets of the Federal Reserve
Many people in this country and throughout the world are unaware of how the Federal Reserve came about and why it is there. One of the #1 reasons our forefathers came to America and declared indepence from Britain was because of the fact that in Britain, the central banks had complete control of the country. Our forefathers realized that giving a single institution complete control of the currency simultaneously granted that institution complete and utter control of the country in general. From 1783 until 1913 our country was running just fine without a central banking system.

Several international bankers realized the potential profit they could make by convincing the American people that a central banking system was necessary. In the early 1900s a few self-serving bankers decided to institute a central bank for the US. They knew the government and public were weary of this so JP Morgan exploited his influence on the media to cause mass hysteria by claiming some privately owned banks were going bankrupt. This caused mass withdrawals putting many banks out of business. In 1910 a secret meeting was held on Jeckyll Island where the Federal Reserve act was drafted by bankers NOT law makers. The bill was handed to Senator Nelson Aldrich, the banker's political frontman. In 1913 with heavy political support from the bankers, Woodrow Wilson became president, having already agreed to sign the Federal Reserve Act in exchange for political support. Libertarian Party commends Paul for opening 'doors for liberty'
Party says Paul fought an uphill battle for liberty in his quest for the GOP nomination
Following the close of Ron Paul's presidential campaign, the Libertarian Party thanked Paul for all that he had done for liberty in his presidential bid. "Paul fought an uphill battle for liberty every day in his presidential campaign against all of the big-government juggernauts of the Republican Party," says Libertarian Party spokesperson Andrew Davis.
"Paul opened many doors for liberty in this nation through his presidential campaign," Davis continued. "By that standard--of which all politicians should be judged--he won a bigger victory than John McCain or Barack Obama ever will. Ron Paul worked to empower the people, not the government. That is a rare trait in today's political world."

Rapper Immortal Technique takes on the 'American Dream'
“Imperialism is sponsored by corporations – that’s why Halliburton gets paid to rebuild nations,” is a line typical of Immortal Technique, the New York based MC who combines the anger of the early hip-hop era with hard hitting political lyrics that set him apart from most rappers today.
Few MCs can claim to use the war in Iraq, Islamophobia and the occupation of Palestine as material to rap a-bout.
But Immortal Technique – real name Felipe Coronel – has never been one to shy away from controversial issues. He is not just a rapper, he’s a political activist.
His track “The Message Or The Money” talks of the pressures he and other MCs face to trade lyrical independence for corporate recognition. Technique released his first album, Revolutionary Volume 1, on his own without being signed to a label. He won a huge following in the underground scene.
“Hip-hop was created with the duality of not only speaking about things revolutionarily, but also being party music...It wasn’t that black and Latino people in the 1980s were enjoying what they were living through – it’s more that they wanted to speak about what they thought could be possible. They imagined certain riches, or imagined themselves in a better place. So they had these rhymes where people would talk about the kind of money they would make – and they had the more revolutionary aspect, the militant flow. And these things crossed each other – it wasn’t that this person just rhymes about this, or this person’s a party MC, or this one a political rapper. A rapper had to be a complete artist.”
But the influence of the music corporations soon transformed this early hip-hop scene, he added. “At some point, when corporations got involved in the marketing of hip-hop, they snatched one aspect out of it. They said, ‘We like it when you dance and sing, but we don’t like it when you talk about everything else. We don’t like it when you talk about Africa or Palestine’.”
“The technology right now allows for people who cannot afford that million dollar studio to get their message heard. Now you can circumvent the corporations by saying I’m gonna make my own music and I’ll promote it through the internet, through the street, through mixtapes.”
He also cautioned against thinking a black president will fundamentally change things. “I’ve learned this the hard way. In Latin America we said as soon as we have an indigenous person as president, everything would change. But it didn’t necessarily change. There are presidents that are black in Africa and there are Muslim rulers in the Middle East. Does that mean there’s less oppression there? No!”
Despite his scepticism, Immortal Technique said he voted for Obama in the primaries, mainly because of his more liberal stance on immigration. But he warned, “Just because I voted for him doesn’t mean I’ll endorse him as a candidate and run around with Obama posters!”He added that contrary to common belief the class system is alive and well in the US.
“I would say there is an American economic aristocracy – people who come from privileged families and influence. So that sort of system exists inside the US and has existed since its conception. And it’s tied into racism, which was created to justify classes and slavery.
“The greatest enemies of democracy have always been the ruling class. Do you think Bush or Obama is going go over and tell the king of Jordan or Saudi Arabia to hold an election?
That will never happen unless the people themselves rise up and reclaim that power. That is the way we truly start to facilitate revolution.”

Lead by (R) Evolution Art Studio and The Gear Factory Collective, this group artists are making many positive changes in Central New York while creating history to call their own.
See why these efforts have lead to region wide revitalization efforts, the installation of more public art and the empowerment of the community to awaken a rust-belt city to it's former glory.
Since its inception in the fall of 2006, (R) Evolution Art Studio and its on-going activities have played an integral role in the creation of the City's first Sculpture Park (Lipe Art Park), its first Public Art Ordinance and Arts Commission, and ongoing festivals, showcases and events outside of the traditional norms and venues.
Using Art as a vehicle, the members of (R) Evolution Art Studio and the Gear Factory Collective explore the evolution of self and of the community in what can only be called "The New Renaissance".
