    • House apologizes for slavery, Jim Crow

I wont argue with the timing, nor question the feasibility of the measure. I will simply do what so many of my ancestors never got the chance to do, and that is.......say thank you.

      Apology accepted.

Better late than never. (now get your asses to work on fixing the communities that are populated by the descendants of those who REALLY DESERVED the apology).

      Read the article...peace.

    • Yusuf Islam wins damages for ‘veiled women’ slur -

Yusuf Islam, formerly Cat Stevens, on Friday accepted libel damages and an apology from a news agency which reported he refused to talk to women at an awards ceremony who were not wearing a veil.

The artist, who changed his name after becoming a Muslim in the late 1970s, will donate the "substantial" payout to Small Kindness, a UN-linked charity which he chairs.

Adam Tudor, the singer's solicitor, told London's High Court that the story behind the legal action was published by World Entertainment News Network and was used on Contactmusic.com, a Web site said to have 2.2 million page views a month.

The article appeared in March 2007 and suggested that the singer was "so sexist and bigoted that he refused at an awards ceremony to speak to or even acknowledge any women who were not wearing a veil," Tudor said.

"It went on to suggest that Mr. Islam's manager had stated 'Mr. Islam doesn't speak with women except his wife. Least of all if they don't wear a headscarf. Things like that only happen via an intermediary."'

Tudor said the article had embarrassed the singer, creating a false impression of his attitude to women and also casting serious aspersions on his religious faith.

World Entertainment News Network issued an apology, saying:

"We now accept that these allegations ... are entirely without foundation, and that Mr. Islam has never had any difficulties working with women, whether for religious or for any other reason."

Islam, 59, is still best known for his hits as Cat Stevens, including "Wild World," "Morning Has Broken" and "Moonshadow."

He sold an estimated 60 million albums as Stevens, but retired from showbusiness in 1978 after converting to Islam. He released his first mainstream pop album since then in 2006.

I love his version of peace train from the 70's. What are your thoughts? Comment below.

    • Kathy Lee Gifford bashes pagans on The Today Show!

On Wednesday, June 25, 2008, during a live broadcast of a wedding reception on The Today Show, Kathy Lee Gifford gratuitously referred to pagans as "nasty, bad Pagans." Ms Gifford's hate speech has done harm to American pagans' ability to live in peace with our neighbors of other faiths. By allowing her hate speech to be broadcast, her direct employer The Today Show, and their network, NBC, participate in that hate speech.

This is a petition calling for, at the very least, an on-air apology. A Today Show program devoted to dispelling misconceptions about pagans and paganism would go a long way toward undoing the damage.

Signers of this petition are also putting the sponsor of that Today Show segment, Samsung, on notice that we are conducting a boycott against them until such time as we receive justice.

    • S.Korean president apologises on beef

South Korea's president apologised on Thursday for a U.S. beef import deal that sparked mass street protests against his new government and will sack close aides to try to halt a dramatic slide in public support.

Lee Myung-bak, who eased to victory in a December election with pledges of pro-business reforms and growth for the world's 13th largest economy but now has an approval rating of less than 20 percent, said he wanted to start a new chapter for his four-month-old government.

Analysts said they expect large parts of Lee's reforms, which include privatizing state firms, tax cuts for companies and mortgage relief for low-income households, to be stalled unless he can win back public support.

A parliament in which Lee's conservative Grand National Party holds the majority has yet to begin sitting because of a boycott by the left-of center opposition angered at the beef deal.

Hundreds of the 13,000 striking South Korean truckers, whose protest has paralyzed ports and cost export firms billions of dollars, reached deals with employers and returned to work on Thursday, easing a little pressure on Lee.

    • Canada formally apologizes to native peoples

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will offer a thorough and detailed apology today to the nation's native peoples for abuses and the loss of aboriginal languages and culture they suffered during a century of forced assimilation at residential schools.

The apology has been billed by the government as a chance to redress a dark chapter in Canadian history. But the day before the landmark statement was marked by wrangling over whether native leaders were adequately consulted over the content, and anger that they will not be allowed to respond in the House of Commons.

Some survivors, as the former schoolchildren are widely called, say the apology is coming only grudgingly under intense pressure from native groups, and must be matched by action. But it is widely recognized as a significant step for a government that had previously sought to limit its responsibility for the harm caused by its assimilation policy.

For more than a century, native Canadian children were sent to boarding schools run by churches and the government to adapt them to modern society and to Christianize them. Many suffered sexual and psychological abuse, and their detachment from their families and communities has had effects across generations.

Several churches already offered apologies in the late 1980s and 1990s, and the government's head of Indian affairs made a statement of reconciliation in 1998. A lawsuit settled in 2006 created a $1.9-billion compensation fund, and an independent Truth and Reconciliation Commission was launched on June 1.

But today's statement is the government's first formal expression of responsibility and remorse for the forced assimilation program and its legacy of damage.

    • Sarkozy tries to mend China ties

France's president has expressed sympathy for a disabled Chinese athlete who was jostled by a pro-Tibet activist as she held the Olympic torch in Paris.

"I would like to express to you my deep feeling about the way you were jostled in Paris on 7 April when you were holding the Olympic flame," Mr Sarkozy's letter stated.

"I want to assure you that the incidents staged by a few people on this sad day don't reflect the feelings of my fellow countrymen for the Chinese people."

    • Australia apologises to Aborigines

The apology is directed at the 100,000 Aborigines who were forcibly removed from their families as children under assimilation policies that lasted from 1910 to the 1970s, based in part on the belief that the race was doomed. The recently elected Kevin Rudd, revealed the wording of a parliamentary motion which will express "profound grief" for the "pain, suffering and hurt" put on the island's natives.

The issue of apologising to the stolen generations was contended for years, many people still support the former prime minister, John Howard's, contention that while the policies were wrong, the present generation should not be made to feel guilty for others' mistakes of the past. Kevin Rudds election in November has allowed him to take a fresh stance on the issue and has been clear on his thoughts.

"We apologise for the laws and policies of successive parliaments and governments that have inflicted profound grief, suffering and loss on these our fellow Australians"

I am not proud or happy the way things have come out. Although I stand strong in everything I said, the true disheartening moment for me was realizing it could look as though I was taking a direct shot at my own teamate.
