Kite Power: The Superferry isn’t the only new alternative for interisland voyaging
Written by Mira Allen
11-4-2007
When Dan Tracy set out three years ago to develop a kite system to power his boat, he had a clear vision. He wanted to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create a more comfortable ride, and clear his vessel of the cumbersome mast that limited movement about the deck. All his hard work is finally paying off, and people are starting to take notice.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY
You're not stupid, they just talk to you this way !
"A cynical, mercenary, demagogic press will produce in time a people as base as itself" - Joseph Pulitzer
Corporate Marketing for a Corporate Campaign / Political theater has devolved to theater without politics. Corporate "journalists" behave like sports "color" commentators, minus real stats and facts. We North Americans are the best entertained and the least informed people on this planet. But more than a quarter of U.S. young adults can't find the Pacific Ocean on a map. Media determine our pubic consciousness of false reality in which we are invited to live large parts of our lives.
"At least 22 American news organizations had employed American journalists who were also working for the CIA, and nearly a dozen American publishing houses printed some of the more than 1,000 books that had been produced or subsidized by the CIA. PS : Google out Carl Bernstein's 1970s Rolling Stone article on the CIA's stranglehold on the US media, which has gotten far worse since then : THE CIA AND THE MEDIA BY CARL BERNSTEIN.
*NEWS FALSH *
AMERICA UNDER BUSH IS A FRAUD / Beyond the concern of big media not to offend the Republicans upon who they are dependent for deregulation, tax relief, and anti-trust exemptions, they are deeply involved in the merger of news and entertainment, which means actual news can get in the way of the entertainment, dramatic storyline. Nothing more accurately describes the charade, lies, deception, dishonesty, false humility, and manufactured image than the word "Fraud."

Wanted: Neo Nazi with typing skills. Why is the Guardian advertising BNP jobs?
"Fancy a career as a neo-fascist? Want to boast Nick Griffin as a friend of a friend? Think fellow traveller would look good on your CV? Then I hope you are reading the Guardian," says Daniel Finkelstein, a Times newspaper blogger, on hearing that the Guardian's jobs pages are carrying advertisements for positions at the BNP, a notoriously hateful British political party which describes itself as "the foremost patriotic political party in Great Britain".
Ok, so its a rival newspaper slating the Guardian, and quite why the BNP would target Guardian readers for its recruitment campaign I don't know, but is the Times blogger wrong to be so incensed?
Should anyone - hateful, racist, fascist or not - be able to advertise a job anywhere? Did the Guardian do the right thing in running these ads? Free speech is one thing, but by publishing this job advert the newspaper presumably had to make sure it passed their editorial standards, and as a publisher it has control over content, and doesn't have to publish just anything...? Writer fired for plagiarizing plagiarism
A writer for the Newspaper at Texas Tech was fired for promoting plagiarism as a way for ideas to flow freely. Ironically his editor found similar writing on a more popular blog, and fired him for plagiarism.
"Apparently, it is acceptable to argue in favor of plagiarism, but not to actually plagiarize anything; it is unacceptable to use text without citing sources, but it is perfectly standard to print outright falsehoods and censor the parties thus injured. We trust the erstwhile columnist, blessed with such absurd adversaries, is headed for finer things and brighter pastures."

The Manoomin Project: Michigan teens, American Indians restore wild rice
(Marquette, Michigan) - The Manoomin Project is restoring wild rice to northern Michigan after the grain disappeared a century ago due to logging, pesticides and other manmade impact.
Over 100 at-risk teens are learning to respect themselves, nature and American Indian culture by planting more than one ton of wild rice during the past four summers. The teens also learn about social issues like racism against Native Americans.
The 2007 planting was delayed six weeks until November due to low water levels.
The teens first participate as part of juvenile court probation for minor crimes but many enjoy the project so much they return the next year.
Guides from several tribes volunteer to teach the teens how to take water samples, and about the historical and cultural importance of the grain that is used in many American Indian ceremonies.
The project was founded by the non-profit Cedar Tree Institute and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (KBIC).
Guides belong to KBIC, the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa (Ottawa) Indians based in downstate Harbor Springs, Michigan, and the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa located close to International Falls, Minnesota near the Canadian border.
Rev. Jon Magnuson, project founder, praised the tribes for working with the teens, most of whom are white. The project includes classroom time, stress reduction exercises, and learning about social issues like prejudice against Native Americans.
In July 2007, the teens heard from Ojibwa elder and Vietnam War veteran Glen Bressette who explained he was the target of racism while their age and overcame problems familiar to the youth like substance abuse and scrapes with the law that included being shot at by police while stealing gas.
The teens witnessed Bressette have a dramatic flashback when a helicopter flew low and close to their meeting site along Lake Superior. He had been a gunner aboard a chopper in Vietnam.
American Indian guide Don Chosa said the teens carry hundreds of pounds of wild rice seeds for miles through thick forests and over mountains to get to seven secret remote planting sites along rivers and lakes. During the hikes, the teens have come upon bears, eagles and other wildlife.
An annual "Blessing of the Wild Rice" ceremony is held that includes American Indian food, songs, language, and prayers. If they want, the teens have the opportunity to learn about God and the environment but they are not forced to be be involved in any religious activities.
Manoomin Project volunteer media advisor Greg Peterson looks at the 2007 planting and four years of success. (Marquette, Michigan) - The Manoomin Project is restoring wild rice to northern Michigan after the grain disappeared a century ago due... more -

Current.tv.com? Wrong!
San Jose Mercury News reporter Susan Young does an article about current.com and obviously doesn't check their facts. The reporter writes "Anyone who knew anything about Current's Web site knew that it was current.tv.com, and thought Gore might have misspoken..." What the heck? Did she try going to www.current.tv.com ? She clearly has a poor understanding of the internet and probably shouldn't be doing internet related stories. I also doubt she ever visited the website before today. Had she have, she would know the address was www.current.tv San Jose Mercury News reporter Susan Young does an article about current.com and obviously doesn't check their facts. The reporte... more
