Good Samaritan Finds Out Dying Accident Victim Is His Wife
An unthinkable tragedy has hit a British man, after he decided to stop and help an accident victim who had been run over by a car. James Peters was on his way to pick up his wife from a bus stop in Surrey, England Friday, because he didn't want her to walk home.
But when he came upon an accident scene where someone was hit and badly injured, he felt compelled to stop and offer what help he could. He'd been there for almost 10 minutes before another Good Samaritan asked him to hang on to the victim's handbag.
And that's when the world he knew ended in a shocking realization: Peters recognized the purse as the one belonging to his wife and came to the agonizing discovery that she was the accident victim lying critically wounded in the road.
Susan Peters had decided to walk from the stop where her spouse was going to pick her up, and was hit by a car as she made her way home. By sheer coincidence, her husband passed by the scene moments later and stopped to help.
But there was nothing anyone could do. His wife was airlifted to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Peters admits he's devastated by the loss of what he calls the perfect wife and notes she was only five minutes from home when the accident took place. She leaves behind three sons and a 90-year-old mother.
To add to this incredible tragedy, Peters and his lifemate had spent some of their final days together celebrating a personal milestone. Last Wednesday, they marked their 40th anniversary.

Deputy buys A/C for struggling elderly citizen, with own money
MILWAUKIE, Ore. - Friday's intense heat brought out the giving side of a Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputy when he was called to the home of an elderly woman who was suffering with no air conditioning.
Deputy Brad O'Neil said the woman's Milwaukie home was pretty much the same temperature inside as it was outside and he concluded she wouldn't be able to survive in the home for too long.
He tried contacting social agencies but was unable to find anyone to help, so he ran to the store and used his own money to buy the woman an air conditioner.
"If it were my grandmother or a member of my family that was found in this way, I would hope that other people would not just walk away," he said.
The fire department arrived to check on the woman as well and helped get the air conditioner running so it could cool off the home.
Police will be checking on the woman throughout the weekend.

Hit and run victim lies in the street, people just keep on walking
In an unusual display of public anger, Hartford's police chief Wednesday gave vent to his feelings about the recent violence afflicting his city and the lack of decency among residents.
Chief Daryl K. Roberts was responding to a hit-and-run Friday afternoon that left a 78-year-old city man paralyzed, lying in the middle of Park Street under full view of passing motorists and onlookers, the savage beating and robbery Monday morning of former Deputy Mayor Nicholas Carbone and the discovery Wednesday of a badly decomposed body of a man in the basement of his family's recently foreclosed home.
Roberts said those incidents are indicative of the callousness and lack of humanity that has taken hold of his city.
"Those are three situations that dehumanize our community," Roberts said, speaking to reporters at an afternoon press briefing. "I'm ashamed to say our city has a toxic relationship with ourselves."
