    • Madden NFL 09 And NO Brett Favre? EA has fixed this, way to take a gamble EA....

On April 24, 2008, David Letterman revealed that then-retired former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre would be the cover athlete of Madden NFL 09 on the Late Show with David Letterman. Despite Favre's later trade to the New York Jets, EA confirmed that the game's cover will still feature Favre wearing a Packers jersey. EA has announced that players will be able to download and print a free alternate cover of Favre in a Jets jersey from their website. It is said that it will be on the website in the upcoming days.[6]

According to EA Sports' Madden NFL 09 website, Favre is a playable character in Madden NFL 09, on the "NFL Greats" roster. However, players can transfer Favre to the free agent roster pool, and pick him up on any of the 32 NFL teams for the 2008 NFL season.[7] A roster update on August 11, 2008 will place Favre on the New York Jets roster. [8]

Like all other games of EA Sports' 09 Season, the "All Play" version of Madden seen on the Nintendo Wii features a different photograph of Favre with different artwork than all other versions of the game.

The Anniversary Collector's Edition does not feature a cover athlete - it has a larger version of the Roman numeral XX logo shown in the top-left corner of the game's standard cover.

EA did take a little bit of a gamble, at least their making it right, but what about the people who do not have their Xbox360 hooked to "LiVE" ? How to I get those updates?

    • Brett Favre is back from retirement

The New York Jets acquired quarterback Brett Favre from the Green Bay Packers, ending the three-time Most Valuable Player's brief retirement and sending him to a team that hasn't won a Super Bowl in almost 40 years.

Terms of the trade, which was agreed to last night, weren't disclosed in team news releases. The Jets offered a single draft pick that may increase in value depending on how the team performs this season, Fox Sports said on its Web site.

The Jets, along with the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants, vie for attention in the biggest U.S. media market, and Favre may be their biggest name since Joe Namath was the quarterback in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

``He represents a significant addition to this franchise and reflects our commitment to putting the best possible product on the field,'' Woody Johnson, the Jets' chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

The 38-year-old Favre spent 16 years in Green Bay, where he set or matched 10 NFL quarterback records and won a Super Bowl title after the 1996 season. This past January, the Packers lost to the eventual-champion New York Giants 23-20 in the National Football Conference title game.

The deal brings closure to a month of drama involving one of the U.S.'s most-popular athletes and Packers management, who said they were committed this season to starting Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. In addition to the Jets, Green Bay was also discussing trading Favre to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ESPN reported.

``My gut feeling for a long time was that it wasn't going to come to fruition, and then it really heated up again recently,'' Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum said at a televised news conference. ``When the opportunity presented itself, we were ready to roll.''

    • It's official: Favre is going to Jets

The Green Bay Packers have reached an agreement to trade quarterback Brett Favre to the New York Jets, the team announced late Wednesday night.

The Packers had been talking with the Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers since deciding earlier this week that the team could no longer co-exist with one of the most beloved players in franchise history.

The Packers decided to move forward with Aaron Rodgers as their starter after Favre announced his retirement in March. Given their commitment to Rodgers, team officials weren't particularly receptive when Favre decided a little over a month ago that he might want to play after all.

Remember when Terrell Owens was an Eagle? Remember when Mr. Owens made the seemingly irrational statement that the Eagles could be undefeated at that point in the 2005 season if they had Brett Favre at quarterback. Well, I wonder whether there were rumblings within the NFL, more specifically at Lambeau Field, about Brett's future in Green Bay. • Packers are shopping Brett Favre

The Green Bay Packers have spoken to several teams, including at least one NFC team, to see what they would be willing to offer for quarterback Brett Favre, NFL Network reports.

The report did not indicate how many teams were contacted in what were termed 'exploratory' phone calls.

Sporting News contributor Mike Florio of profootballtalk.com reports that the Ravens were one of the teams the Packers contacted to gauge interest in Favre. The Ravens told Green Bay they were not interested, Florio writes.

One source speculated for NFL Network that the Packers are simply gauging what Favre is worth on the open market before deciding whether to try to trade him. Favre has said that he does want to play in 2008, and he asked for his release from the Packers, indicating he would be willing to play for a different team if Green Bay doesn't want him.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that other teams potentially interested in Favre are the Bears, Bills, Buccaneers, Chiefs, Dolphins, Falcons, Jets, Lions, Panthers, Redskins and Vikings.

How ironic would it be that the Packers trade Favre to Atlanta and wind up finishing his career where it started, remember he was drafted by the Falcons.

    • Brett Favre: Packers should let me play elsewhere

Brett Favre finally is speaking for himself: He wants to play but doesn't feel welcome in Green Bay, so he's asking to be released.

Favre said he was "never fully committed" to retiring and felt pressured by the Packers to make a decision, a notion Packers general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy tried to dispel in an interview with the AP on Saturday.

"Ted always wanted Brett back," McCarthy said. "We always wanted Brett back."

Favre told Fox he understands that the Packers want to move on — but if they're doing so, they should let him go.

    • Favre re-thinking retirement

According to a Los Angeles Times report, the former Green Bay Packers quarterback, who announced his retirement last month, is contemplating a comeback with another team.

Citing NFL sources, the Times reported Thursday that Favre has been quietly talking with teams about their interest in trading for the three-time NFL Most Valuable Player.

On March 4, Favre, who played with the Packers for 16 seasons, announced his retirement during an emotional press conference at Lambeau Field.

However, Favre, 38, has yet to give written notice of his retirement to the league or players’ union.

Favre’s agent, James “Bus” Cook, told the Times he was not aware of his client’s possible interest in resuming his career.

“That’s news to me,” Cook said. “I don’t think it has anything to do with anything. He’s retired, period, point blank.”

During his press conference, Favre denied he retired because the Packers did not make a more aggressive attempt to sign wide receiver Randy Moss.

However, Favre’s decision came one day after the New England Patriots re-signed Moss to a three-year contract worth $27 million.

    • Packers QB Brett Favre to retire after 17 years

Fox Sports broke the news...but the link to FoxSports.com wouldn't load.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre is to retire after 17 season with the organization. It's reported that he informed the team of his decision within the last few days, but it has been confirmed that the organization did not tell Brett to retire. He told his mother and brother on Monday night.

As a Milwaukee-area resident, and long-time Packers fan, I can say I'm saddened by the news, but not shocked. I am however disappointed that somewhere in the state, there's a 40-year-old man sobbing at his desk after hearing today's news.

    • Got NFL Network?

It's one of the biggest games of the year, but Cowboys fans, like myself, in many parts of America won't be able to watch it on cable Thursday night. The face-off between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, both teams with 10-1 records and possible home-field advantage throughout the playoffs at stake, will not be shown by Time Warner Cable, America's second largest cable company, because of a impasse with the NFL Network. During a conference call last week, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said fans should blame the big cable companies if they can’t get the NFL Network. Jones points out that 240 smaller cable companies, with a combined 8 million subscribers, are carrying the network and have not passed along price increases to their customers. Really though, who the heck cares who's to blame? I just want to watch the game. So...y'all better make friends with people who have satellite tv or head to a local bar to watch the game.
