Creationist embrace evolution in classroom
For years, critics of evolution tried to expel evolution from the classroom. To no avail. Now, with help from Ben Stein, they’ve taken another approach. Rather than calling for an exorcism of evolution, activists are encouraging students to learn MORE about evolution, including the dissenting views of creationism. This concept is being pushed through state legislation via the “academic freedom” bills.
Here’s some data points from the article:
* the State of Florida recently passed the academic freedom bill
* this week, the state senate in Louisiana approved a bill ensuring that teachers can go beyond the biology textbook to raise criticisms of evolution AND
* similar bills have just been introduced in Alabama and Michigan and this week passed through a house committee in Missouri
* several states, including South Carolina and Pennsylvania, have passed science standards requiring students to think critically about evolution
* according to a Gallup poll, 45% of Americans believe that God created human beings in their present form within the last 10,000 years
* according to another Gallop poll, 34% of Americans are upset that schools teach evolution

Ben Stein's movie defending "Intelligent Design" being released April 18th
The movie "EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed" is a documentary about how the people promoting ID are claiming to be persecuted by the scientific community, who will not allow ID to be introduced into public schools.
There was a recent court case, Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District, which determined that Intelligent Design was creationism in disguise. NOVA produced a documentary about the case that can be viewed on-line.
One of the positions the judge cited for his decision to rule against the teaching of ID in the class room was based on evidence found showing “the text referred to as a resource for ID, Of Pandas and People, had originally been a creationist text.”

Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed
Ben Stein is premiering his documentary, Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, which uncovers what many scholars have been facing in the teaching field. He interviews those professors and researchers who have been suppressed because of a belief in something called "Intelligent Design". ID "intelligent design", is an opponent of the popular theory of Darwinism. Because of these people who have argued for an option other than Darwinism, they are being told to keep quiet, and losing tenure jobs.

Ben Stein, the lovable, monotone teacher from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "The Wonder Years" is back in the classroom in a major motion picture release slated for February 2008.
But this time, the actor will be on the big screen asking one of life's biggest questions: "Were we designed, or are we simply the end result of an ancient mud puddle struck by lightning?"
That's right. Evolution – and the explosive debate over its virtual monopoly on America's public school classrooms – is the focus of the film "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed."
In the movie, Stein, who is also a lawyer, economist, former presidential speechwriter, author and social commentator, is stunned by what he discovers – an elitist scientific establishment that has traded in its skepticism for dogma.
