Gordon Brown - still numero uno, just
After his make-or-speech last week in which he claimed his experience as vital in being the best leader of Britain, Gordon Brown is seen as the best during crisis times, although only be a very narrow margin.
The ComRes survey indicated that the Tories' lead over their Labour opposition had been slashed by over a third in the last four weeks and that since the Labour conference last week that they are closing the popularity gap on the Tories.
41% (down three) put the Tories as their numero uno, with 29% (up four) putting Labour as theirs. The Lib Dems squeezed an inch, gaining one percent of the votes to see them reach the dizzying heights of 18%.
The survey also revealed that Gordon' personal ratings were higher than Cameron' and that "43% see Mr Brown as "best in a crisis" compared with 33% for the Tory leader. The Premier is also more trusted on the economy by 43% to 33%." David Cameron visits Georgia in show of solidarity
Labour MPs questioned why the Prime Minister had left it to the Conservative Leader to visit the beleaguered nation and had not sent a government minister or even convened a formal press conference on the issue himself.
Eyebrows have been raised at the low key approach taken by Mr Brown and Foreign Secretary David Miliband who have said they are working behind the scenes with other nations to resolve the crisis.
President Bush, President Nicolas Sarkozy of France and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel have taken the lead with only brief statements from Mr Brown and Mr Miliband.
Mr Cameron flew to Tblisi and stood side by side with Georgian Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidze to call on Russia to immediately end its "illegal" invasion.

Cameron tries to distance himself from the suggestion that Northerners should move...
The report that Northerns should move to the South East for a better quality of life hit headlines across the country today. The right leaning think tank said the North showed "little prospect of offering their residents the standard of living to which they aspire" a message which David Cameron has now desperately tried to distance himself from.
Yet Anthony Browne, the guy who runs Policy Exchange, is leaving to become Boris Johnsons' policy advisor making him the fourth person from this particular think tank to get a top job in the conservative party.

Downing Street goes all 2.0 and launches new website
True, this might not be as exciting to the average young web user as, say, Facebook's new redesign but Downing Street's new website, boasting the latest Twitter, Flickr and YouTube updates and other news from the Prime Minister's office, follows a rising trend in politics - capturing the online audience and engaging increasingly apathetic young voters.
Obama saw a massive boost to his nomination fund-raising efforts due to online donations and internet buzz, while Tory leader David Cameron has long sought to engage voters digitally with his online video blog site 'Webcameron'.
In any democracy, politicians are accountable to the voters who put them in power. Can websites like these, an inevitable result of an increasingly connected world, help change politics for the better by giving people the means to interact more directly with their governments or are they just examples of politicians jumping on the digital bandwagon? Cameron slams stamp duty dithering
David Cameron accused ministers of being "reckless" with the housing market over their failure to set out clear proposals on stamp duty.
He told reporters: "We said back in October that we would abolish stamp duty for nine out of 10 first time buyers. This was a fully costed tax cut last October so I do not know why the Government is still dithering and not getting on with it."
Stamp duty is one of the key barriers for first time buyers getting on to the housing market, particularly with the most first time buyers requiring mortgages of at least 4 times their salary. Is removing stamp duty for first time buyers the answer? David Cameron accused ministers of being "reckless" with the housing market over their failure to set out clear proposals on... more -
Cameron criticises 'bully' Russia
David Cameron could not express more exactly how I feel about this incident.
-----
David Cameron has branded Russia "a massive and dangerous bully" and urged the international community to stand up and condemn its action in Georgia.
He also called for Georgia's membership of Nato to be "speeded up".
The Tory leader told the BBC: "The only language that bullies understand is when someone stands up to them."
British Foreign Office Minister Jim Murphy has described Russian military action against Georgia as "deplorable" and urged it to stop its attacks.
He said Georgia had offered a ceasefire, but was finding it difficult to disengage from Russian forces in the breakaway South Ossetia region.
'Disproportionate force'
UK nationals have been advised not to travel to Georgia and those in the country have been urged to leave.
As fighting over the disputed region of South Ossetia threatens to spread more widely, Mr Cameron argued that Britain should be working with its European and Nato partners to make clear that Russia's actions were "completely unacceptable".
"What Russia has done here is used massive and disproportionate force. It's breached international law and it has violated Georgia's territorial integrity," he said.
"It has acted as a massive and dangerous bully and we can't allow this to go ahead without it being challenged.
"I think Georgia should be able to join Nato and the timetable, if anything, should be accelerated. If Georgia was a member of Nato, then obviously we would have greater leverage over Georgia."
Mr Cameron conceded that Georgia's decision to send troops into South Ossetia "was a bad strategy" but he warned that there were "very, very worrying consequences" if Europe did not speak with one voice that what Russia is doing "is wrong". David Cameron could not express more exactly how I feel about this incident. ----- ... more -

David Cameron 'Teach kids to drink'
An interesting point made by Conservative party leader, David Cameron in attempt to rock the youth vote:
"Some of the friends I had, the ones who had the biggest problems, were the ones who actually were never allowed to drink anything at home - whereas the ones who drink responsibly were the ones who were given a glass of wine or a small glass of beer or a shandy or something. That's the right way to do it in the home."
Probably not something that most people would agree with David. An interesting point made by Conservative party leader, David Cameron in attempt to rock the youth vote: ... more -
Cameron reunited with stolen bike
Conservative leader David Cameron has said it's "incredible" to have his bicycle back. He's been reunited with the bike, which disappeared from outside a Tesco store in west London on Wednesday, courtesy of The Sunday Mirror. The tabloid said it had used the contacts of local Ernest Theophile, 60, to retrieve it.
It was found in a nearby side street, minus its front wheel, but with Mr Cameron's helmet and lock still on it. The Tory leader expressed surprise that thieves did not think the helmet worth advertising on eBay.

David Cameron: shape up, fatties!
Earlier this week David Cameron declared it was time for an end to 'moral neutrality'. If people are fat and poor, they should simply be told that they're fat and poor, and its all their fault, and they should sort themselves out, and they definitely can't blame it on the government.
Tis a fair point, in a sense - but at the same time, government has a reponsibility to react to society as it changes, and if we're all getting beefier because our entire cultural landscape has altered (we're so busy working to pay the bills that we don't prioritise eating healthily, and communities have been so decimated that we don't actually go outside to exercise, and therefore fighting fatness and poverty seems like a losing battle, for example) then that should be acknowledged, at least. Right? Or wrong?
Here the delightful (and delightfully rotund, she reckons) Arabella Weir speaks up for the fatties and, er 'poories' amongst us, and addresses the social and economic issues dear David seems to be forgetting...
David: "We talk about people being 'at risk of obesity' instead of talking about people who eat too much and take too little exercise."
Arabella: "Of course you're bleeding well 'at risk' if you come from the socio-economic group most likely to eat badly as a result of being less well versed in good eating habits and with the least access to shops selling quality food at reasonable prices."
Ha! I know who my money's on in this particular battle. And yet the Tories are ever popular... Come election time, be afraid. Be very afraid. Earlier this week David Cameron declared it was time for an end to 'moral neutrality'. If people are fat and poor, they shou... more -
Cameron tells poor they have only themselves to blame
David Cameron declared yesterday that some people who are poor, fat or addicted to alcohol or drugs have only themselves to blame.
He said that society had been too sensitive in failing to judge the behaviour of others as good or bad, right or wrong, and that it was time for him to speak out against “moral neutrality”.
"It's as if these things - obesity, alcohol abuse, drug addiction - are purely external events, like a plague or bad weather. Social problems are often the consequence of the choices that people make." said Cameron
Labour MP Stephen Pound described Cameron as a "posh tourist, dropping in and out". Cameron was also accused of hypocrisy after talking tough on knife crime yesterday.
