Would Batman be as successful without the death of Heath?
I am a film student and saw Batman at midnight of the opening day and thought it was very well done, incredible actually.
But I am not a huge fan of comic book movies and from my stand point I know I wouldn't have cared to see it in theaters if it weren't for the sad death of Heath. And I really think he deserves a huge consideration for the Oscar, hands down. It was incredible.
But my question remains, would this be as successful ($155 million in the first weekend!!) or even as 'incredible' without his death?
I honestly don't believe it would have been... I am a film student and saw Batman at midnight of the opening day and thought it was very well done, incredible actually. ... more -
Would you rather be blind or deaf?
This pod asks a question I have tried to answer all of my life, and it's essay style filmmaking keeps the viewer connected to the material on several levels.
As soon as begin to think "I choose blindness" as my answer, I change my mind and realize I couldn't handle it. I'm a visual artist, but on the other hand I love music.
So, I set out to ask those around me and observe unlikely situations and objects that surround the topic of being blind or deaf.
My niece, who was temporarily blind for a day, gives a child's perspective on the topic.
Check it out. This pod asks a question I have tried to answer all of my life, and it's essay style filmmaking keeps the viewer connected to the... more -
So many issues...how can those in debt help?
Maybe I am just growing into this, but it feels like there are so many different issues going on right now and I want to help out, but which issue do I help with?
I mean look at it:
- The floods
- Tornadoes
- FEMA trailers
- The Red Cross is out of money
- Hurricane Katrina Victims are still struggling and now they are in danger of another hurricane this season
- Energy Crisis
- Gas prices
- Global Warming
- World Poverty
- Water is running out...especially in Southern California
and that's just a few here in the US...there are also huge global issues!
Ahh...why do I feel overwhelmed! What do we do...what is it you choose to do? I am not about to sit back and watch from a distance, I am ready to help, but I am also gaining about $30,000 of debt...
How do I make money enough money to pay my debts and rent while also helping out?! Does anyone have the answer? Maybe I am just growing into this, but it feels like there are so many different issues going on right now and I want to help out, but... more -

Con men use crabs and a slick line in questioning
In Japan, an increasing number of people are receiving unsolicited crabs in the mail from con men. After the crabs are delivered, the con men demand payment, according to consumer affairs authorities.
In the scheme, con artists call elderly people and ask them whether they like crabs. If the answer is "yes," they are unknowingly sent crabs and billed an excessive amount, consumer authorities said.

Why Oprah Winfrey Left Rev. Wright's Church | Newsweek Periscope | Newsweek.c...
For any spiritually minded, up-wardly mobile African-American living in Chicago in the mid-1980s, the Trinity United Church of Christ was—and still is—the place to be. That's what drew Oprah Winfrey, a recent Chicago transplant, to the church in 1984. She was eager to bond with the movers and shakers in her new hometown's black community. But she also admired Trinity United's ambitious outreach work with the poor, and she took pride in upholding her Southern grandmother's legacy of involvement with traditional African-American houses of worship. Winfrey was a member of Trinity United from 1984 to 1986, and she continued to attend off and on into the early to the mid-1990s. But then she stopped. A major reason—but by no means the only reason—was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Race to the Bottom
In the course of Hillary Clinton's historic run for the White House--in which she became the first woman ever to prevail in a state-level presidential primary contest--she has been likened to Lorena Bobbitt (by Tucker Carlson); a "hellish housewife" (Leon Wieseltier); and described as "witchy," a "she-devil," "anti-male" and "a stripteaser" (Chris Matthews). Her loud and hearty laugh has been labeled "the cackle," her voice compared to "fingernails on a blackboard" and her posture said to look "like everyone's first wife standing outside a probate court." As one Fox News commentator put it, "When Hillary Clinton speaks, men hear, Take out the garbage." Rush Limbaugh, who has no qualms about subjecting audiences to the spectacle of his own bloated physique, asked his listeners, "Will this country want to actually watch a woman get older before their eyes on a daily basis?" Perhaps most damaging of all to her electoral prospects, very early on Clinton was deemed "unlikable." Although other factors also account for that dislike, much of the venom she elicits ("Iron my shirt," "How do we beat the bitch?") is clearly gender-specific. In the course of Hillary Clinton's historic run for the White House--in which she became the first woman ever to prevail in a sta... more

Obama breaks with former pastor - Ben Smith - Politico.com
Sen. Barack Obama coolly denounced the Rev. Jeremiah Wright for his “appalling” words and for his personal and political betrayal Tuesday, a day after Wright seized center stage in the race for the White House and six weeks after Obama said he could no more “disown” his former pastor than he could his own grandmother.
Obama’s remarks were a second attempt to end perhaps the most damaging chapter of his political career — and strategists raised significant doubts about whether even Obama’s blistering words could immediately quell the crisis Wright has created for the Illinois senator’s campaign.
What do you think about this in terms of the general election? Obama and his view of Change? Or the Clinton campaign. Sen. Barack Obama coolly denounced the Rev. Jeremiah Wright for his “appalling” words and for his personal and political betrayal Tues... more -

Ben Stein's movie defending "Intelligent Design" being released Apr...
The movie "EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed" is a documentary about how the people promoting ID are claiming to be persecuted by the scientific community, who will not allow ID to be introduced into public schools.
There was a recent court case, Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District, which determined that Intelligent Design was creationism in disguise. NOVA produced a documentary about the case that can be viewed on-line.
One of the positions the judge cited for his decision to rule against the teaching of ID in the class room was based on evidence found showing “the text referred to as a resource for ID, Of Pandas and People, had originally been a creationist text.”

Why do we eat eggs at Easter?

“For Christians, Easter eggs symbolise new life. They believe that, through his resurrection, Jesus defeated death and sin and offers people the promise of eternal life if they follow his teachings. This is why there is a tradition for Christians to be baptised at Easter, which celebrates new life in God." I'll let BBC schools handle this one... ... more -

The Davos Question
This year the World Economic Forum has joined YouTube to give you the chance to add your voice to the debate, no board position on a multi-national corporation needed.
Called "The Davos Question" anyone can record a YouTube video expressing their thoughts on how to improve the world, which, if ranked highly enough by other YouTube users, will then be shown at some of the public sessions attended by world leaders gathered in Davos.
