Challenge Poverty (with Save the Children USA)
Not all of us can put our lives on hold to fly to some country to help the poor. But I have, so why not tell me how I should help them? In this video, you can see that I've decided to team up with Save the Children USA. I've narrowed it down to five options:
- Build a deep tube well
- Build a pond sand filter
- Buy 80 Salter Scales to help fight malnutrition among babies
- Build a school latrine
- Repair a School Damaged by Cyclone Sidr
There is enough money to either repair the school OR do any 2 (or 3) of the other options. The sidebar info on the YouTube video has details on how you can vote. Analysis: Should YouTube censor al-Qaida?
'Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., called Monday for YouTube to take down al-Qaida videos that users had posted, but the site said most of the videos his office had flagged did not contain material that violated their guidelines and rejected his request that they act to remove all material from U.S. designated terror groups.'
'In a letter to Eric Schmidt, the chairman and chief executive officer of Google Inc., which owns YouTube, Lieberman urged the popular video-sharing service to enforce its own "community guidelines" against " graphic or gratuitous violence" and said the company should change its rules "to address violent extremist material." '
The Senators case apparently is that this videos should be removed for several reasons; they are morally wrong, that the videos allow terrorist groups to show 'provenance' with logos and icons, and finally that many attacks show US soldiers being attacked injured or killed.
You tubes response to this is the videos haven't broken their guide lines and people like seeing extreme videos (obviously considering the war is actually going on). My personal response to this is you can find videos more easily of US soldiers doing all of the above things and much worse, but then i suppose the Senator would love them banned as well.

The Annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, is accepting the participation of You Tube user in its Congress Center viewing and answering the significant suggestion to what companies or individuals must do in order to make the World a better place in 2008.
Most of the conflicts we have in the World today is caused by economic inequality and its consequences.
The idea that corporation, which in many aspects decide the way other human beings and the environment are treated, are considering to take in consideration opinion and ideas of single individuals, like you and I, make me feel quiet optimist about the possibilities of a future with fair way of living for all!

Racist Attack Against Ecuadorian Girl
In Barcelona, Spain, 21 year-old Sergi Xavier Martinez Martinez assaulted a 16 year-old Ecuadorian girl on the metro. As Martinez gets on the bus he is having a conversation on his cell phone about his hate for immigrants. He proceeds to yell derogatory, racial epithets based on her perceived immigration status. She gets up to call the emergency telephone number 112.
Police have found the man, who denies doing it intentionally, saying he was drunk. The girl is afraid to even leave her home.
Racism and anti-immigrant sentiment go hand-in-hand in Spain, but these images speak louder than any past acounts of hate.

finally, some actual, balanced, elevated, sophisticated debate and discourse on Real Time.
It has been a long time since I've seen a conservative really call Maher on his sh!t.
In this clip, Tucker makes a great point about how Bill (and liberals (current?contributors)) take relentless, vicious, cheap, personal shots at republicans .....just like the gop-minded(backed?) pundits do toward the dems.
It just seems soooo counterproductive to debate/draw attention to anything other than the issues at hand.
I love Bill's show just as much as the rest of the current libs....but not half as much as I did back when he was on network tv and showed more of his conservative streak....
I think the hollywood/LA scene has totally polarized/jaded his opinions and rendered an otherwise beacon of truth and sensibility.....useless??delusive? ineffective!!
His show has pretty much descended into a partisan love fest (kind of like a certain tv network....) I hope this episode is a swing back to the good old days of Politically Incorrect when fair, balanced, HELPFUL discussion reigned supreme.

related: I hope you guys do away with the "I support this / I don't support this" paradigm on the site BEFORE it goes public...especially for the "viewpoints" they are not campaigns, politicians, or referendums.
talk about further polarizing your audience and the population...wow...outrageous.. what about the f-ing grey areas?! ugh.. what good could possibly come out of this?
If current insists on maintaining some type of primitive voting system..please at least add a yellow light option....or use your collective imaginations....
