Purdue students win for making hamburger assembly hella complicated
A team of Purdue University students concocted a 156-step recipe for preparing a hamburger to win Saturday's annual national Rube Goldberg Machine Contest.
This year's task was to assemble a burger consisting of no less than one precooked meat patty, two vegetables and two condiments, sandwiched between bun halves.
The victory by the 17-member Purdue Society of Professional Engineers was the team's third such win in the past four years in the contest, named for the late cartoonist known for his drawings of complicated devices performing simple tasks. Texas A&M University placed second; the University at Buffalo in New York was third.
"We put 4,000 to 5,000 man-hours into this machine since September, and all the hard work has been well worth it," said Wischer, a senior in aviation technology from Cedarburg, Wis. Discovering our Environment
I am an architecture student at Texas A&M, and in my studio we started researching the land on which the new Target is going to be built in Bryan, Tx. We also looked at the process of how it was being built and what they were doing to preserve the land around them and give back to the area, seeing as how they are using a retention pond that is located on land that was once nature trails used by families, boy scouts, and other people who visit the museum of natural history right next door. We were not sure what our research would lead us to or if we would actually find any dirt on the big, bad developers, but we have really learned a lot more than we would have expected. This is a great blog that shows all of our research and what we are trying to do with this retention pond and notifying the public.
It would be great to know what you think about this! Leave comments on here or on our blog which is linked above if you want!
We are working on a video so stay tuned! I am an architecture student at Texas A&M, and in my studio we started researching the land on which the new Target is going to be... more -
