Hate Crime or College Prank?
An incident last week at University of Washington's Delta Upsilon fraternity is under scrutiny for potential racial motivation. The Seattle Police Department (SPD) responded to a call last Sunday at 10 p.m. at the Delta Upsilon fraternity on 19th Avenue Northeast. According to a witness, a group of young men standing on the fraternity balcony were engaged in an exchange with a passer-by below. The men threw water balloons at two people, including the man with whom they were engaged in the exchange with, and allegedly yelled anti-immigrant slurs, according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer. The SPD has documented the incident as assault, a misdemeanor, and malicious harassment, a felony. According to the P.I., neither victim was located after police responded. Until a victim comes forward there will not be an SPD investigation.
