Radiohead -- incredible video for “House of Cards”
Not only is this my favorite song off this album, but now the folks at Blip Boutique have created a stunning video for the sublime track.
In keeping with Radiohead's commitment to not create any "traditional" music videos for tracks off of In Rainbows, this gem uses "real time 3D recording instead of cameras, utilizing highly technical structured light and Lidar laser-enhanced scanners to model Thom Yorke," resulting in a vid that is surreal and, i think, pretty effing awesome. Radiohead release camera-free video
The band has just released a video for "House of Cards" without using cameras or lights.
The clip instead utilizes two state-of-the-art multimedia technologies known as Geometric Informatics and Velodyne Lidar:
"Geometric Informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3D images at close proximity, while a Velodyne Lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. In this video, 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced all the exterior scenes."

Bono Apologizes for Paul McGuinness
I wanted to set the record straight on behalf of the members of U2 on comments made to the BBC by our much-loved and valued manager, Paul McGuinness, regarding Radiohead’s decision to make the music of ‘In Rainbows’ available as a download, using the ‘honesty box’ idea for payment.
We agree with our manager that this is a head-scratching and worrisome time for many musicians who, unlike ourselves, are depending on royalty or publishing cheques to pay the rent (particularly songwriters). We also agree that it is disturbing to see internet service providers and technology companies profit from the so-called ‘disintermediation’ of the music business when so many music lovers are losing their jobs. And while there is no doubt that it’s extremely difficult for a new artist to get the kind of investment on which U2 depended in the first few wobbly years of recording, we disagree with Paul’s assessment of Radiohead’s release as “having backfired to a certain extent.” We think they were courageous and imaginative in trying to figure out some new relationship with their audience. Such imagination and courage are in short supply right now…they’re a sacred talent and we feel blessed to be around at the same time.

Big Ideas (Don't get any) on Vimeo
Radiohead held an online contest to remix "Nude" from their album - "In Rainbows" This was quite a difficult task for all the electronic musicians that entered, as Nude is in 6/8 timing, and 63bpm. Most music that's played in clubs is around 120bpm and usually 4/4 timing. It's near impossible to mix a waltz beat into a DJ set.
This resulted in lots of generic entries consisting of a typical 4/4 beat, but with arbitrary clips from "Nude" thrown in so that they qualified for the contest.
Thom Yorke joked at the ridiculousness of it in an interview for NPR radio, hinting that they set the competition "for a laugh" and to find out what would come out of such an impossible task.
I decided to take the piss a bit, as the contest seemed to be in that spirit.
Based on the lyric (and alternate title) "Big Ideas: Don't get any" I grouped together a collection of old redundant hardware, and placed them in a situation where they're trying their best to do something that they're not exactly designed to do, and not quite getting there.
It doesn't sound great, as it's not supposed to.

New Radiohead video against human trafficking
"Radiohead have donated a song to MTV to use in a human rights media campaign ‘EXIT’ (end exploitation and trafficking)
The video, which will premiere on MTV channels globally from May 1, features a split screen showing the day in the life of a well-off child from a western country and a poor child who is forced to work in a shoe factory sweatshop. In Rainbows track ‘All I Need’ will promote the MTV Exit initiative that aims to end exploitation and human trafficking.
It was filmed in Australia by cinematographer John Seale, who has worked on The English Patient and Cold Mountain, and director Steve Rogers."

After a cease & desist put the breaks on Amplive’s Radiohead In Rainbows remix project, the online music community reasonably wondered if the tracks would ever see the light of day. Today comes an answer: they most definitely will. While the Oakland producer/DJ acknowledges that he probably should have contacted Radiohead (who were not involved in the project) to seek approval prior to making his interpretations publicly available, an agreement has been reached between all involved parties and Amplive has been granted permission to release Rainydayz Remixes for free to the general public. Watch Radiohead's 93 Feet East London gig in full
Despite the last-minute venue change and queue-jumping, Radiohead's free London gig has been hailed as epic by fans lucky enough to be there.
The secret gig was moved from the Rough Trade East shop to the nearby bigger 93 Feet East venue after more than 1,500 fans turned up and police threatened to stop the show in the interests of public safety.
The change in plan meant the band didn't take to the stage until 10.20pm and the entire set was broadcast on the band's website, Radiohead.tv.
As we blogged live at the time, Radiohead played their entire latest album 'In Rainbow's in full, and five more classics including "My Iron Lung" and "The Bends".

Radiohead Tops US Charts: US Tour Announced
Radiohead have gone straight into the US Billboard charts at number one with their album 'In Rainbows' despite early speculation that their digital giveaway of the album would slow sales.
Last week exactly the same thing happened in the UK, giving weight to Thom Yorke's assertion that fans want a tangible "object".
Yorke had dismissed the idea of not backing a net release with a hard copy as "stark raving mad" saying: "We didn't want it to be a big announcement about 'everything's over except the internet, the internet's the future', 'cause that's utter rubbish. And it's really important to have an artefact as well, as they call it, an object."
The band have also announced a North American tour. Exact dates and venues have yet to be declared but they'll be playing the following cities:

Despite being made available on a 'pay-what-you-like' basis on the internet in October, Radiohead's In Rainbows has climbed straight to the top of the UK album chart, giving weight to Thom Yorke's assertion that fans want a tangible "object".
