One of Rock n' Roll's godfathers is dead. Bo Diddley was widely recognized as one of a handful of musicians that brought about the transition from blues to rock and roll. Also known for his rectangular guitar, Bo Diddley's influence in rock and roll will place him amongst a distinguished few in the caverns of music history. One of Rock n' Roll's godfathers is dead. • Lib Dem leader talks sex, drugs, drinking and cacti

Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has opened up to GQ magazine about his sex life, revealing he's slept with "a lot less than" 30 women and that he's not "particularly brilliant or particularly bad."

He didn't stop there, telling Piers Morgan that his predecessor Charles Kennedy's alcoholism had been "very difficult and unpleasant, for him and the party", and that he'd enjoyed his own heady flirtation with alcohol as a youth when he got drunk on a school trip aged 16 and set fire to some rare cacti, which earned him some community service.

He stayed tight-lipped on illegal drug use though, saying: "What I got up to as a teenager is not relevant to my job now."

Jimi Hendrix was born November 27, 1942. Today would be his 65th birthday had he not passed away in September of 1970. In his honor, here is a rare video of Hey Joe recorded in Belgium in 1967. • Rock Bands Make Model Hotel Guests

The days of ripping through hotel lobbies on Harleys, trashing five star suites, and partaking in Jack Daniels and Quaalude-induced orgies with numerous groupies are long over, it seems.

Today's super elite rockers want amenities, peace and quiet and, um, health food.

What a bummer, and in many ways, a reflection of the changing face of the music industry.

      Paging Robert Plant. Please help!

    • Why Greg Tate Matters

Gonzales discusses a love supreme for the craft and the rich community that blossoms from the seeds of Tate.

      MG blurbs:

"I will always be thankful to the man for being unafraid to be, as Tate himself once described him, “a one-man affirmative action committee in the 1980s…all because he believed Afro-diasporic musics should on occasion be covered by people who weren't strangers to those communities.”

"I am more than happy that Greg Tate had put up the signposts for this black boy to follow. In fact, one of those signs might have read: Enter At Your Own Risk…This Means You!"

"Hell, that was during the same period that one prominent Caucasian music editor (who is still in a position of editorial power today) told the same publicist something along the lines of, “…black music writers don’t write that well.” It’s crazy what some people believe. However, if you’ve taken a glance at Rolling Stone, Blender, GQ, Esquire and New York magazines lately, that opinion still seems prevalent in 2007.

"hell, even David Byrne and The Clash had discovered Africa by 1986"

"Not to say that we wouldn’t be writing for somebody (perhaps medical journals or antique mags), but it was from studying Tate’s music writing mojo like cold lampin’ graduate students that helped give us form different options. Like Miles Davis and Wynton Marsalis, the Beatles and Oasis, Grandmaster Flash and DJ Shadow, it was Tate and all of us."

    • Memoirs of a Rock n' Roll Muse

This is an interesting review of model/muse/rocker wife Pattie Boyd's memoir, "Wonderful Tonight".

As a never realized rocker-wife myself (I never did get to meet Van Halen when they were touring...but then again, I was only 6), I look forward to this read.

Here's a snippet of the review:

"In “Wonderful Tonight,” Boyd seems like a real person who happened to be lucky enough to live shoulder to shoulder with rock deities. The prose is clear and unpretentious, and although she writes candidly about the pain her husbands’ infidelities caused her — particularly Harrison’s affair with Ringo Starr’s first wife, Maureen — this isn’t a bitter tell-all screed. There’s an aura of sweetness around Boyd’s approach. Her early years with Harrison, who comes off as a relatively gentle man, clearly were happy ones, and she rather openly states that she regrets leaving him — although she’s quick to acknowledge she would have regretted missing out on the passion she felt for Clapton. The Clapton chapters are the dreariest in the book, through no fault of Boyd’s: at the time they were married, Clapton suffered from a serious drinking problem, and he appears to be a total pill, which may be a harsh blow to those who still like to think of him as God. (Clapton’s own memoir has just been published, so perhaps God will have the last word after all.)"

    • Eric Clapton confessions in new autobiography

Eric Clapton traded a heroin addiction for alcoholism, suffered disastrous love affairs, contemplated suicide while armed with a bottle of vodka, a gram of blow and a shotgun.

The guitar deity has long since surrendered to a higher power; at 62, Clapton has 20 years of sobriety, a happy marriage and three young daughters. It's a good time to consider an extraordinary life, as the rock Hall of Famer does with "Clapton: The Autobiography."

    • Led Zeppelin music to be made available digitally...Yea!

"The great thing about this band, unlike almost any other band that you could think of, is that every single day there is a new 13-year-old kid who's just starting to get into music" and will discover the group, said David Dorn, senior vice president of e-commerce at Rhino Entertainment, which is marketing the band's catalogue. "That's a customer that's coming along for the future."
