My Final Plea to the Honorable Albert Gore, Jr.
I have been thinking a lot lately about all of our efforts to try to convince you to run for President in 2008. In you book, "The Assualt On Reason", you write about people needed to come together, to make our voices heard, to take back our government so that it is, once again, a government for the people, by the people. In working with draftgore.com, netrootsforgore, gore2008, Americaforgore and all the other websites that are working to get you to run, aren't we doing exactly what you advised us to do in your book?
We are coming together and using our voices - with newspaper ads, tv ads, calls & letters to senators, letters, phone calls and emails to you, working on various campaigns (like the pennies we sent), showing up where you are speaking to hand out "Gore 2008" buttons, gathering signatures - letting our opinions be known on hundreds of websites, here at current.com, on youtube and everywhere we can think of. We all have one common theme - to ask, beg, plea and, sometimes, even demand that you run.
In Time magazine May 16th, 2007, you stated that, "I am under no illusions that any position has as much ability to influence change as the presidency does. If the President made climate change the organizing principle, the filter through which everything else had to flow, then that could really make a huge difference." If you really believe that, why aren't you running? You have trained many others to carry on the climate crisis fight. Shouldn't you help all you can by being our president and helping us lead the world in this fight?
On July 7th you stood before millions of us, asking us to "answer the call" for our planet and we responded by signing the pledge and changing the way we live our lives, working to become carbon neutral - answering your call.
Now, Mr. Gore, isn't it time YOU answered our call? I have been thinking a lot lately about all of our efforts to try to convince you to run for President in 2008. In you book, "The Assu... more -

Wherefore Al Gore
Follows the progress of a campaign in Western Massachusetts to place Al Gore on the ballot for the Democratic Party primary. This is an interesting effort, thoroughly grass-roots, being undertaken by some 230 similar groups around the country. With Gore having just won the Nobel Peace Prize, an Oscar earlier in the year, huge international recognition and unencumbered by the negatives attached to the front-runners in the Democratic field, Gore supporters think he represents the best chance for the Democratic Party to capture the White House in 2008. Paging Donna Brazile, you are wanted in the kitchen.
Hi Donna Brazile,
Glad to know you are not currently working for anybody's campaign. Get ready, the party is about to start. If my hunch is correct, and if everybody's wishes and dreams come true, you should be getting a call very soon. I have a feeling you already got a call, and that is why you are not currently working for anybody else's campaign.
If Al Gore were to decide to run , I know his first phone call would be to you. This isn't a guessing game, it's more like "pure hope"
Let's Go. We are all ready to cook with grease, ready to stir the pot.
(This photo of Al Gore was taken after he signed a copy of his book, and we talked about him running in 08. I left that event thinking he was going to run. It was one of those moments you don't forget.
I am ready to donate. I am ready to help. Just say the word.
Note to Al Gore: In general the country is in a deep depression. Feel free to jump in the race and give me, and the rest of the country real hope.

Markets say "Gore would obliterate any of them, were he to run."
Just as I suspected. Seems the Invisible Hand of the Market has decided.
According to Robin Hanson of Portfolio.com, Al Gore is the most electable erm candidate beating Hillary, all the Democrats, Giuliani and all the Republicans.
Seems you Americans are ready to get serious. Be nice to have you back in the Reality based community.
Quoting from said piece:
"Which means that InTrade's traders reckon Gore has a 58% chance of getting the nomination if he runs, and an 89% chance of winning the presidency if he's nominated, and an all-over probability of 52% that he'll become president if he throws his hat in the ring."
The blog article goes on to say:
"Meanwhile, the favorite for president, Hillary Clinton, has already thrown her hat in the ring, and is given a 48% chance of becoming president. (Giuliani's in a distant second place, on 17.6%.) Which means, I think, that Al Gore is considered to be the best presidential candidate in America, on a pure electability criterion."
He also just happens to be the best qualified person for the office.
Socrates said that any person who sought political office too readily was to be mistrusted. He said that only a person who sought office because they feared what others may do with it was acting from good intentions. Those Greeks, eh?
I recommend putting "The Assault on Reason" on your reading list btw. Some helpful hints in there for restoring the Constitution, saving democracy and so forth.
Cheerio. Just as I suspected. Seems the Invisible Hand of the Market has decided. ... more -
Red State says "A Gore/Obama ticket would kill Hillary first, and then the GOP"

"For heaven's sake by itrytobenice
keep this under wraps, and *tight*.
You are exactly right. G/O would be formidable for us and could wax the floor with Clinton, as no one really likes her.
I'd much rather compete against Billary, with all the baggage and shrillness, than Oscar/Nobel/Drammy Winner/Mr. Personality.
I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent."
Keep this under wraps! Priceless.

The CBS poll has a margin of error of 5%.
That is a statistical dead heat.
Meanwhile on:

The well respected Brent Budowsky writes:
"Gores appeal is not merely his experience as vice president, congressman, senator and Nobel Laureate but the larger truth that he is a champion of a sweeping worldview and a fearless opponent of Bush wrongs at a time
when throughout the nation, Democrats and independents believe their Washington-based leaders have been timid, fearful and ineffective."
and:
"A Gore-Obama ticket could well sweep the nation and inspire the world, while inspiring the Democratic Party to far more courage and principle than it has shown at any time during the Bush years."
Somtimes pundits get it. Mostly not. But sometimes they do. And slowly the momentum is building.
Now will one of you kindly souls post this everywhere you possibly can?

November 2nd is Al Gore's Deadline for Filing to Run in the New Hampshire Primary!
Al, I don't think you're our savior, no one person can save a "nation that chooses to be asleep" as spoken by Princeton professor Cornel West on Bill Maher's Real Time show on HBO on September 7th! You are just the best catalyst for positive change this country could have right now! Hillary is not our best option. Rapper/Actor Mos Def said it so well on that same Real Time Episode: "Hillary Clinton is just another form of dynasty to me. They passin? the presidency around like a party joint. It goes from the Bushes, the Clintons to the Bushes and back..."! He and Professor West have endorsed Barack Obama, but I fear he doesn't have the experience to have the support needed to win. (Maybe he would make a great running mate for you as others have suggested...)
As far as Hillary is concerned, it's one thing to come up with a health plan that says what everyone wants to hear but another to come up with a realistic plan to fund it that has the feasibility of getting passed by Congress! The Democratic Congress has been a disappointment. They should have revoked the President's authorization to use force against terrorism immediately...now we are facing more impetuous reactions to Iran from the Bush Administration. It has become impossible for us, the general public, to separate fact from fiction from an Administration that ?cries wolf? and a Congress that?s so scared of offending their electorate that they stand for nothing! I respectfully submit, dear former Vice-President Gore, that the handwriting is on the wall, and that the "Inconvenient Truth" for you is that this country needs you to make this sacrifice and run for President in 2008! Global warming and your other endeavors are in place, have a life of their own, and can't they be overseen by those who already help you? You, as President, are the best hope of your initiatives in this regard coming to fruition! You will have so much support you won't know what to do with us all! Thousands of us are tempted to write your name in anyway, so you might as well make it official so it will count!

If he runs, wont his efforts to win one for humanity be misconstrued as an agenda to strengthen the Democratic party? wont then the pundits attack and the message be lost?
ONE THING is for sure:
If Al Gore truly believes he is doing more good for the world by NOT being President, then I will believe him. I trust the man's judgement and I know he'll do what's best for the world.
But we have to show our support.

Al Gore on California's Primary Ballot?!?!
Yes... we are putting him there and you can help. Did you know Eisenhower was drafted into the presidency? After he was placed on NH's ballot (like we are doing with Gore in CA & several other states), he changed his mind and decided to run. We are doing the same thing with Al because the future of our country and the planet we live on hang in the balance. California Democrats, please download (link in the upper left hand corner), sign, & collect signatures to help (further directions below). We CAN do this! Al has very clearly left the door open to the possibility of running in the future http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/10/10/184837/05), so we need to give him a very convincing reason to go through that open door.
