    • MY COUNTRY IS THE WORLD: A Citizen of no nation, World Citizen #1 travels on his W...

The extraordinary true story of one man who took on all the nations of the world -- and won!
In 1948, compelled by the pain of war, Garry Davis gave up everything -- a promising Broadway career (he stood-in for Danny Kaye and got 13 curtain calls!), his well-to-do show-biz family, even his nationality – to become the world’s first official world citizen. He embarked upon a bold adventure, crashing borders, scaling cliffs, escaping a concentration-camp and challenging border guards, prison commandants and warring armies on a one-man mission to heal the wounds of war and to prevent World War III.
“If I can show that it is possible for one man to live in a new global space, above the nation-states that divide us, and still survive, then I’ll prove that it is possible for all of us to choose to live in the higher reality that we are already one planet,” Garry declared in 1948.
With Albert Camus and others, he interrupted squabbling of nations at the UN in Paris, calling for world-wide elections to create a world parliament to outlaw war and make peace. 20,000 war-weary Europeans rallied with him to demand that the UN recognize the rights of humanity. The very next day the Soviet Union stepped aside and allowed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to be passed unanimously.
Under the authority of that Declaration, and at the suggestion of Eleanor Roosevelt, Garry founded the World Service Authority in Washington DC, which has issued 2 million world passports, IDs, marriage licenses and other documents. (www.worldservice.org) While some nations reject the world passport, 150 Nations have stamped it with Visas. (www.eworldcitizen.com) Thousands of refugees and stateless people have used the World Passport to gain back their identity—and for many their freedom.
Today Nelson Mandela, Bishop Tutu, Jimmy Carter, and other Elders are calling on a billion people to sign the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to make a personal pledge to protect the rights of our fellow global villagers. (www.theelders.org)
For 60 years Garry has lived as a citizen of no nation – only of the world. He’s 86 and still going strong! Now that he has blazed the trail to prove that world citizenship exists, we can each choose to add top level citizenship. We can be citizens not only of our cities, our states, and our nations, but also of the world! This 5-minute short, “One! The Garry Davis Story” was chosen as the 1st place winner from all the entries submitted from around the world for the World Peace Film Awards. (see www.onefilms.com) Please send a link to your friends, and post your comments and reactions on current TV.

“Garry Davis, has grasped the only problem which deserves the devotion of contemporary man, the problem to which I myself am determined to devote the rest of my life, up to my very last day: …the survival of the species. It is a question of…whether mankind – the very universe of man – will disappear by its own hand, or whether it will continue to exist.”
--Albert Einstein, quoted in the transcript of 10/4/1949 hearing before the 14th Court of Corrections in Paris, as translated by Richard V. Carter in Survival Meetings, Writers Club Press, 2001

    • The world's biggest landfill can be found at sea.

Trash. Millions of pounds of it, most of it plastic, floats in the middle of the ocean. The United Nations Environment Program estimated in 2006 that every square mile of ocean hosts 46,000 pieces of floating plastic and in some areas the amount of plastic outweighs the amount of plankton by a ratio of six to one.

How much more do we have to screw up our planet before we start to fix it? The "plastic soup" is divided into two parts, between California and Hawaii, which is twice the size of Texas, and between Hawaii and Japan, which is twice the size of America.

In 2006, an invitation was put out to the Youtube community to take part in making a statement about global unity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxqNsUbWlHc). The idea was simple - write something on your hand and show it to the world.
The result was phenomenal - tens of thousands of people responded with videos and comments, in what seemed to be a flood of globalised ideals. The combined effort of these responses was condensed into 'The Message' - four minutes of hope, purity and togertherness - the likes of which had never before been seen on the internet.

Featured on MTV, ABC and The FIzz.

    • Sail Boat to Crusie from Africa/Europe to the USA for Peace

On March 8th, 2008, The Beija Flor, a 54 foot sailing vessel with Skipper Detlef Kowalewski and his crew/band will set sail from off the coast of Africa and Europe for a two month trip as the EUROROCK PEACE FULL SAIL that will again begin in Florida.

EuroRock, founded by LouRicca, a peace activist is a tour for Peace that has toured America with musicians from all over the world and has been going on three years as of now. EuroRock now goes to the oceans with Peace Full Sail and known Musicians from all over the world to help bring peace across the Atlantic Ocean to the rest of the world.

Ricca plans to film this voyage with an experienced cinematographer he has hired to document the voyage, the music and the history being made.

The trip will hopefully be broadcast and streamed on the Internet every other day live from the boat as it sails to its destination bringing Peace. "At the destination, Tampa Bay, and Jamaica,we will hold a concert from the ships deck and broadcast it live as well. Much Publicity will take place. We are also filming the whole trip for a documentary."

Some of the celebrities taking part in EuroRock Peace Full Sail for Peace on land and/or on sea:

Right now, Ricca says they are 99.9% ready to go. All that is needed is a piece of equipment that will enable them to broadcast their trip in real time on the Internet.
Ricca says "The dish costs 40,000€ and we couldn't afford this, so we thought about putting the word out for a sponsor to lend us the equipment and Internet connection for two months."

Ricca says they will have to do without if they cannot find the sponsor, but there will be pictures and film available for our documentary.

There is still room for a bass player and drums, so please contact Lou at his website given above. This is a trip of a lifetime and for the good of the world.

    • A Season of Nonviolence Honoring Gandhi and King

      by Lael
Daily Mantra received an email in its inbox this morning alerting it to the beginning of the 2008 Season of Nonviolence. This annual 64 day event, which begins on January 30 and runs through April 4, was started in 1997 on the occasion of the 50th and 30th memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., respectively.

Daily Mantra couldn't agree more with the stated goals of this commemoration:

*Honor the dignity and inherent worth of every human being.
*Understand that all of our words and all of our actions have impact.
*Choose to practice compassion with apparent adversaries.
*Become stewards for the rights of individuals and the environment.
*Use our talents to empower rather than to exert power.
*Engage in constructive dialogue with one another to solve conflicts.

While we love these objectives, our acute consciousness of the ever-present, unyielding Law of Attraction that brings about whatever is focused upon leads us to suggest a change. Why not rename this event in a way that frees it altogether from any connotation of violence? After all, the term "nonviolence" carries at its root the very phenomenon it wishes to negate. Instead of the Season of Nonviolence, therefore, we suggest practicing a Season of Kindness for All or, if you prefer, a Season of Universal Compassion.

In any case, we send love and gratitude both to the organizers of this worldwide series of interrelated happenings and to the two spirits, one an Indian Hindu and one an American Christian, whose profound commitment to spiritual truth and positive change continues to transform our world.

A Northland man who died after being bashed by a gang of youths in Sydney on Boxing Day is believed to be the victim of a racist attack.

Jim Tautari, 50, was walking home from a fast food restaurant when he was attacked by a gang of up to 10 teenagers, who beat him with baseball bats and golf clubs.

"It was definitely racist," said Tautari's mother Janie Henare in Moerewa.

She said a witness told family in Sydney that Tautari had been racially abused in a McDonald's restaurant before the attack. Henare said "10 white boys" had beaten her son. He died in hospital the next day.

    • Swiss Chris' Drum Solo With Electrifying Effects: A tribute to Aung San Suu Kyi

Swiss Chris is no ordinary drummer. This video is his tribute to Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient that is in jail for speaking of freedom and democracy in Burma.
Who is Aung San Suu Kyi?

      * Known to much of the world as "Asia's Nelson Mandela", she currently leads a popular, nonviolent freedom struggle in Burma.

      * In 1990, the year of Burma's last democratic election, her political party, the National League for Democracy, won 82% of the seats in parliament; however the ruling military regime refused to recognize the results.

      * One year later, in 1991, while still under house arrest and leading a non-violent struggle for democracy she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

      * The regime has kept her imprisoned for 11 of the past 16 years.

      * She has won over 70 major international awards for her work on behalf of the people of Burma, including: the Nobel Peace Prize, Sakharov Prize (from the European Parliament) and the US Presidential Medal of Freedom.

In an increasingly jaded world of political apathy and power-hungry institutions, Aung San Suu Kyi is truly that rare heroine of legend - a symbol of hope - championing the rights of individuals in the face of human rights violations and dictatorial oppression. Suu Kyi continues to stand alone in defiance of an unjust and brutal military regime with grace and Gandhi-like resolve.

Throughout 11 of the past 16 years, she has struggled in obscurity, with little or no contact with the world. Due to her perseverance amid growing concern for health and well-being, a determined community of individuals from around the world have rallied in support of Suu Kyi and the plight of the Burmese people.

The video displays his innovative techniques and electronic know how along with his passion for the plight of Aung San Suu Kyi. Besides the ordinary drum kit, Swiss Chris adds electronic pads that when hit with his drumsticks, triggers a multitude of sounds and video that he's prerecorded into his mixing unit. The result is a sound thats like having a backing band, including a vocalist if he wants as well as various video of current news, historic news and just about anything he wants that he gets clearance for.

Swiss has used this technology mainly for his human rights efforts for the Freedom campaign as well as his own organization, Saving With Instruments Samples and Soundz (SWISS). Swiss Chris is also the Music Director and Drummer for 5 time Grammy winner John Legend.

    • The Star Of Bethlehem: A Supernova, Comet, Planetary Alignment? Our Interconnectiv...

The Star of Bethlehem signaled to the Magi that a very special birth was imminent and they followed the direction of this astrological event. It brought them to the birth of Jesus.

What was this star? I've always thought it had to be a comet. This article explains how some people investigated the celestial happenings of that time, and what they came up with seems to make sense. Or does it?

I've always been a true believer that everything in the Universe is somehow connected. My early beliefs were justified with the recent discoveries in string theory and quantum physics. Astrology is not too far of course!

With these new theories and discoveries, it justifies how the heavens, the Universe affects every living thing on Earth. Our Interconnectivity. Plant life certainly responds to the sun by moving in its direction and of course growing and all the chemical changes it produces. The sun and moon of course dictates how our oceans act. (we humans are made of mostly water!) The planets even dictate how earth alone survives. One example is that if we did not have Jupiter where it is now, our lovely planet would be bombarded with asteroids making life somewhat hard to live. Jupiter's enormous gravitational pull is like a vacuum cleaner, sucking all the space debris in its direction. Comet Schumacher would have made Swiss Cheese of our planet!

Getting even further out of our solar system, a supernova millions of light years away releases so much energy, the Earth actually gets bombarded with some of the radiation expelled when the star explodes.

The Universe is one. One little action on Earth affects the whole Universe. So is the opposite true. It's The "Butterfly Effect".

The Star of Bethlehem really happened. Weather or not it was a signal to Mankind that a Saviour was born is up to the individual. Personally, I believe this to be true.

Read the article and also watch the video through the link up there!

I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas, and may Peace come into your hearts and resound throughout Earth....and the Universe!

    • A Model for All Religions and People to Live in Harmony

Some top religious leaders of two of the oldest religions in the world, Muslims and Jews are looking for ways to narrow the gap of understanding each other. This article also tells of the four Jewish kids that were physically and verbally assaulted in a subway because they wished someone a happy Hanukkah. Another man witnessing this, who came to their rescue was a young Muslim man," Hassan Askari, of Bangladeshi heritage, who was beaten.

When this man witnessed this, this man didn't think of what color their skin was or what religion they were. What he thought was that some people were being assaulted and no one was doing anything to help and that he had to intervene to stop a possible murder.

A model is a bunch of pieces of a puzzle put together to form one. Are you part of this model? Read the story linked above and see how you can fit in.

In November, you’ll be able to buy a new laptop that’s spillproof, rainproof, dustproof and drop-proof. It’s fanless, it’s silent and it weighs 3.2 pounds. One battery charge will power six hours of heavy activity, or 24 hours of reading. The laptop has a built-in video camera, microphone, memory-card slot, graphics tablet, game-pad controllers and a screen that rotates into a tablet configuration.

The laptop consumes an average of 2 watts, compared with 60 or more on a typical business laptop. That’s one reason it gets such great battery life. A small yo-yo-like pull-cord charger is available (one minute of pulling provides 10 minutes of power); so is a $12 solar panel that, although only one foot square, provides enough power to recharge or power the machine.

Will you join me in devoting a few minutes of your Thanksgiving celebration to help the people of Darfur?

All you have to do is take a moment to share the story of the people of Darfur and hand out a simple petition for your guests to sign.

You'll start by spending a few moments explaining the crisis to your guests (you can download a short overview of the situation to read from if you'd like) and then pass around a printed petition to President Bush and U.N. Secretary-General Ban for your guests to sign.

I hope you'll join me and my family in taking advantage of this opportunity for reflection, thankfulness, and togetherness to help raise awareness about the urgency of the situation in Darfur.
