Sixth foot washes ashore in Canada
Yet another severed foot—the sixth in a year and second this week—washed ashore yesterday in Canada on an island near Vancouver. Like all but one of the others, it was a sneaker-clad right foot. "It's very unusual," said a police spokeswoman. "To my knowledge, we have not encountered anything like this." So far, investigators are stumped.

Alice
A strangely compelling electronica song (and video) composed of sounds from the Disney version of Alice in Wonderland. Made by a 19-year-old in Australia, “Alice” kind of lulls you into a state of semi-consciousness filled with Cheshire cats and flowers wielding batons. Artbot Mimics Sounds Musically
"The system learns the sounds it can make by trying out its instruments, and then uses its range of sounds to try to reproduce the rhythmic and melodic qualities of sounds such as the voices of visitors."
For this clip, "the source audio is a bit of the soundtrack from the movie Citizen Kane, and the noisemakers are a set of found object percussion machines and an electromagnetically fretted electric guitar." Soil Bacteria THRIVE on Antibiotics
Researchers from Harvard discovered that everyday soil from urban parks to farms to suburban lawns to pristine forest contain bacteria that not only are resistant to classes of antibiotics humans use every day, they can subsist on the antibiotics EXCLUSIVELY.
"Of 18 antibiotics tested, representing eight major classes of natural and synthetic origin, 13 to 17 supported the growth of clonal bacteria from each of 11 diverse soils.
"This phenomenon suggests that this unappreciated reservoir of antibiotic-resistance determinants can contribute to the increasing levels of multiple antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacteria."
I don't think anyone is ready to claim any causality. But having so many bacteria that are related to human pathogens, literally being soaked in antibiotic tainted agricultural and human runoff can not be good. Researchers from Harvard discovered that everyday soil from urban parks to farms to suburban lawns to pristine forest contain bacteria... more -

Moses was high on drugs
According to an Israeli researcher, Moses was on psychedelic drugs when he heard God deliver the Ten Commandments.
The researcher also says that Moses was high on drugs when he saw the burning bush.
"As far Moses on Mount Sinai is concerned, it was either a supernatural cosmic event, which I don't believe, or a legend, which I don't believe either, or finally, and this is very probable, an event that joined Moses and the people of Israel under the effect of narcotics," Shanon (the researcher) told Israeli public radio on Tuesday.

Moses was a tripper
Acacia, which contains both DMT and Tryptamine, was a common drug of the Israelites. Burning bushes, and chats with God on Mount Sinai, might have been trips.
"Such mind-altering substances formed an integral part of the religious rites of Israelites in biblical times, Benny Shanon, a professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem wrote in the Time and Mind journal of philosophy.

Culture Marketing
An acquaintance from back in the day recently Facebook befriended me. I didn't give it much thought until I saw that he was connected to more Facebook friends of mine in the Bay Area than not (with the exception of friends of a bar I frequent). To get to the point...www.vintage415.com is a Culture Marketing outfit. Check the "About" link. This smells fishy. Good think I keep my profile on lock down. I hope this doesn't permeate throughout other social networking outlets [Ahem]. An acquaintance from back in the day recently Facebook befriended me.
