Kucinich: We went to Iraq for oil
Rep. Dennis Kucinich has accused the US of forcing Iraq to privatize its oil fields and keeping US troops at war to protect Iraqi oil reserves.
Kucinich who has introduced measures to impeach George W. Bush and Dick Cheney said on Thursday that oil executives who secretly met with the vice president in 2001 alongside oil company executives should be held criminally liable for pushing an illegal war.
SECRET MEETINGS
"In March of 2001, when the Bush Administration began to have secret meetings with oil company executives from Exxon, Shell and BP, spreading maps of Iraq oil fields before them, the price of oil was USD 23.96 per barrel. Then there were 63 companies in 30 countries, other than the US, competing for oil contracts with Iraq," the Ohio Democrat said during a speech on the House floor.
"Today the price of oil is $135.59 per barrel, the US Army is occupying Iraq and the first Iraq oil contracts will go, without competitive bidding to, surprise, (among a very few others) Exxon, Shell and BP."
CHENEY MET OIL COMPANY EXECUTIVES
In March 2001, two years before Iraq was invaded, Cheney met with top executives from Exxon Mobil Corp., Shell Oil Co., BP America Inc. and others on his infamous secret Energy Task Force.
Kucinich seemed to accuse participants in that meeting of plotting the invasion of Iraq. There's no indication that the participants discussed military action, although documents later released showed they did eye Iraq's oil fields.
ACCOUNTABILITY
"Our nation's soul is stained because we went to war for the oil companies and their profits. There must be accountability not only with this administration for its secret meetings and its open illegal warfare but also for the oil company executives who were willing participants in a criminal enterprise of illegal war, the deaths of our soldiers and innocent Iraqis and the extortion of the national resources of Iraq," he said.
WMD FOUND- IT WAS OIL
"We have found the weapon of mass destruction in Iraq. It is oil," Kucinich continued. "As long as the oil companies control our government Americans will continue to pay and pay, with our lives, our fortunes our sacred honor."

'US builds 4 bases on Iraq-Iran border'
The US military has constructed four advanced bases 20 miles from Iraq's border with Iran, a senior Iraqi police officer has announced.
The bases, equipped with missile launch pads, have been set up over the past four months on the Iraq-Iran border; Iraqi al-Noor newspaper quoted the official as saying.
He added that one of the bases has been located 30 km (20 miles) from the first border town with Iran and houses remote-controlled launching pads as well as radar systems similar to ones used in Kuwait during the first Persian Gulf war.
"The bases do not serve military intentions and its staff would not be military personnel."
According to the official, the bases are only precautionary measures in case of a military strike against Israel by Iran.
A team consisting of high-profile US marines, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) alongside Pentagon experts oversee the bases.

Ahmadinejad: I have proof of US plot
The Iranian president Ahmadinejad says he has evidence that the US attempted to assassinate him during his recent visit to Iraq.
“If US echelons even think of denying the attempt, we will put forth concrete evidence to expose their plot,” said Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday.
He criticized Iraqi authorities for being quick to deny the attempt on behalf of Washington and for claming that President Ahmadinejad was in no danger.
“Unfortunately a select few in Iraq have interfered in what does not concern them and have denied the attempts without providing any kind of proof,” he said.
“What business did they have to act as the White House mouthpiece? Our criticism was directed at Washington and in no way concerned Iraqis,” he continued.
Ahmadinejad said last week that the enemy had plotted to assassinate him during his stay in Baghdad, suggesting that the plot had failed due to last-minute changes in his schedule.
Iraq's Supreme Court, however, claimed that the Iranian President was in no danger in his visit.

Russia warns against using force on Iran
Russia's foriegn minister Sergey Lavrov has warned about using force against Iran over the nuclear issue (which Iran says is peaceful).
He added:
"We have been repeatedly asking our American and Israeli colleagues, who insist that Iran is certainly involved in making an atomic bomb, to provide factual information about this matter. So far we have seen none.”
This comes as The New York Times reported that the Israeli military had done a rehearsal for a potential attack on Iran.
All this happening as a plan is gaining support again to build a international nuclear facility in Iran which would fulfill Iran's right to enriching uranium yet prevent the nuclear substance from being diverted for military use -(the plan was rejected by Bush admin 3 years ago even though the idea was advanced by Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientists).

Muslim doctors to open free clinic in Brooksville
Dr Husam Zarad & 40 other Muslim doctors in Hernando County will begin working on Saturdays in their new space in the Brook Plaza at Broad Street and Ponce de Leon Boulevard, just outside downtown Brooksville. Their goal is to provide free care to the growing number of underserved and uninsured people in Hernando County (which is 18% of Hernando's residents who dont have medical insurance).
"This is our dream coming true," Zarad said, wiping sweat from his brow after angling the table into the room. "This is how we are going to give back to our community."
With Zarad and a handful of other doctors at the lead, they're ready to give back the way that their religion asks them — even if it's in a county where religious tensions still run high.
"Charity and doing good make up the Third Pillar of Islam," Zarad said. "And after talking about this for so long, we decided to make it really happen. I'm losing sleep just thinking of the benefits this will bring for the community."
