The Tears of T.O.
The Dallas Cowboys suffered a season ending loss at the hands of the New York Giants. Many people in sports media attributed this loss in part to Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo's decision to vacation with his girlfriend, Jessica Simpson, during the week of the game. Terrell Owens defended his quarterback in a post game interview where the usually enthusiastic wide receiver got uncharacteristically teary-eyed. Dear Jerry: please keep football ON THE FIELD and get over yourself.
So, the fight between the NFL and large cable companies was taken to the Texas Capitol yesterday. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made their pitch to the Texas House Regulated Industries Committee to get their fledgling NFL Network into more households. "As America's team, the Dallas Cowboys have millions of fans outside the home market who are being kept in the dark by Big Cable," Jones said. Okay buddy, seriously? PLEASE. First, if they want us fans to see all the games, why'd they take them off of free television? They need to stop blaming cable companies for a problem that they created. Second, this step in urging the state to intervene is entirely inappropriate, and I doubt is even in its jurisdiction. Third, and most importantly, Jones - I still resent that you ran Johnson outta Dallas. Voiceover: "Hey, Jerry! You've just won back-to-back Super Bowls! What are you gonna do now?" Jerry: "Can my coach." Fire Jimmy, hire Barry Switzer...that's pretty much dumb and dumber. Don't get me wrong though, I've still got love for my boys -- just not for the man with the neverending ego trip. Crowning Moment: Cowboys are NFC East Champs!
The Cowboys have clinched their first division title since 1998, but not without a large dose of drama. Dallas trailed Detroit all day, but Romo threw a game-winning drive for an amazing 28-27 comeback, allowing Witten to redeem himself after fumbling on the Lions' 1-yard line during the fourth quarter. Got me a little worried there for a second, but thankfully my boys pulled through :) The Cowboys have clinched their first division title since 1998, but not without a large dose of drama. "GET YOUR POPCORN READY, because it's going to be a show!"
Remember last season when Lions quarterback Jon Kitna talked trash on the radio after Detroit beat Dallas? Kitna said he was just kidding. But tomorrow, the joke might be on him. As the 11-1 Cowboys suit up to play the Lions tomorrow, it seems as if they're making good on the $25-million promise Owens made last year to Dallas fans when he told them to “get your popcorn ready, because it's going to be a show." The 6-6 Lions are reeling, riding a four-game losing streak that has put their playoff hopes in jeopardy. Get ready, because my boys will be clinching their first division title since 1998 tomorrow...and making sure Kitna shuts the heck up. Jessica's Got Herself America's Most Eligible Cowboy
So...is it bye-bye Sophia Bush and helllloooo Jessica Simpson? Rumors are flying that the two Texan sweethearts spent Thanksgiving weekend together, after Romo gave the Jets a 34-3 spankin' on Thursday. So, Thanksgiving, huh? It's only one of this country's most sacred rituals combining family, food and football. Romo has said that he's trying to "keep up with" Pats QB Tom Brady on the field...apparently now it is off the field as well. So...is it bye-bye Sophia Bush and helllloooo Jessica Simpson? McFadden, Arkansas stun No. 1 LSU in triple OT
LSU loses its number one ranking in the BCS for the second time! LSU is an amazing football team, but they couldn't stop a triple-overtime victory from a Heisman Trophy contender. Darren McFadden rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns, and even threw for another score to lift Arkansas to a 50-48 victory. Gotta love that late season BCS madness... Football Showdown Sunday!
This is the game that all football fans have been waiting for all season long. It's been marketed as Super Bowl XLII and a half but, will it live up to the hype?
These are two of the best teams, two of the best quaterbacks, balanced offense and tight defense on both sides. This has the potential for a classic matchup for the ages, Achillies vs. Hector pales in comparison but, that may be the problem. Like most Super Bowls in the past they never seem to have delivered an exciting game and in the end tend to be more flash than substance, a lot of overhyped expectation hidden behind a flashy display of halftime shows and fireworks. I may sound like a naysayer but I've had my delicate football heart broken many times before but even so, I'll still be watching along with millions of other NFL fans. The game will be available to 94 percent of the country and according to the league spokesman Seth Palansky "The regular-season game average for an Sunday NFL game was 16.3 million last year". Palansky said, "This game is likely to come in around double the average. The Patriots-Colts telecast will be a rematch of last season's AFC Championship Game, which the Colts won 38-34 and which drew a TV audience of 46.7 million and this game should beat those numbers.
Over hyped as it may be, I'm still watching and hoping for a good game as I brace my fragile football heart for the worst. This is the game that all football fans have been waiting for all season long. It's been marketed as Super Bowl XLII and a half b... more -

This isn't American football ... it's football.
On the one hand I think it's awesome. Having been in the U.S. for seven years and only getting to watch a game lying on the sofa on a weekend morning, the idea of seeing the red scum (Manchester United) get their northern behinds spanked by my beloved Chelsea in amazing real-life-o-vision is more than appealing.
On the other hand I can't help but wonder if this means that we're going to see cheerleaders, ticker tape and some pop celebrity come on at half time to entertain us. America has already shown us that it is more interested in celebrity rather than the sport as is the case with the Beckham move.
No one here cares about football, right? So why bother putting two teams on a plane flying them across the pond for one game in the middle of the season. The top flight teams have enough on their plate with, ... well, let's see, the Premiership, the Champions League, Carling Cup and of course, the F.A. Cup. They don't even get a break at Christmas let alone time off to play a game in a country that couldn't care less.
It seems to me that this is a case of greedy foreign investors thinking about their pockets and pretending to promote the game. My point is that just because the NFL is doing it, it doesn't mean that we should. On the one hand I think it's awesome. Having been in the U.S. for seven years and only getting to watch a game lying on the sofa ... more -
