Graphics Galore on Current
I love this channel but wonder if anybody else is finding the use of graphics in between segments a little heavy handed. It's feeling a little MTv to me, and I think is somewhat distracting from the overall high quality of content on this channel. Just a thought. Otherwise, great, interesting work. SUBVERSIVE DISRESPECT
Current runs hosted commentary between pods where some "comedian" does a run-down of infotainment "news." There were two instances occurred within a 30 second period today (approx 6:08pm EST) during "You Made This" where he contributes to the endemic disrespect of women:
-- a blurb about Tina Fey, top writer of Saturday Night Live, creator of 30 Rock, and star of the new comedy flick "Baby Mama", appearing on the cover of Entertainment Weekly: "We can finally pidgeonhole her as just another hot girl."
and worse:
--scoffing at Helen Hunt's choice to grace the cover of Redbook (derisively, "it's like Glamour for Moms"): ...as she "drifts slowly into irrelevancy... touting 'cool mom style!'"
Wow. Too bad neither this no-name host nor his "writers" have accomplished one-tenth of what these talented women have. Remarks like these just feed into the Neanderthal attitude that what women do is less important than equal or lesser actions of men, as well as the practice of Hollywood's continuing to create programming primarily for young boys-- even though currently women over the age of 30 comprise double the population of boys 18-25, with spending power of more than five times as much. WORKING THRU PTSD
AS A FORMER NEWS PHOTOGRAPHER WITH PTSD FOR MORE THAN 10 YEAR MY THOUGHTS GO OUT MR ELLIOT AND ALL OUR FELLOW TROOPS.
