    • Are Award Shows in Danger due to the WGA Strike???

All year I wait for the Academy Awards (and the Globes too, I guess) with eager anticipation. But this year might be different.

Award shows also need writers. We all know these ceremonies can be boring without a good laugh every five to ten minutes or so. With the writer's strike going on, writing waivers from both the Hollywood Foreign Press and the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences have been rejected.

This is really getting messy...and it just got messier...

    • Discriminatory/Racist Halloween Costumes: Is Society Regressing?

This Halloween, a couple of white guys on my campus painted their skin brown, dyed their hair black and went as "black guys" as their Halloween costumes. This sparked a long Facebook debate about whether or not this is actually discriminatory or if it should be ok. Then the issue of other discriminatory Halloween costumes came up such as dressing as nuns and priests or cholos. I do not think the guys meant to be insensitive, but is this a form of racism?

Tell me what you think ...

What counts as a discriminatory costume? Should there be limits on what you can or can't wear or at least on what is decent to or not to wear? Where is the line?

Is dressing up as a priests to mock them just as bad as or carry as much weight as dressing up as a race or ethnic group?

Is society regressing? Are we really as open minded as we think we are?

    • There Will Be Blood

There Will Be Blood is a new film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and staring Daniel Day-Lewis - my favorite director and my favorite actor. It's never a good idea to have very high expectations for a film because it's easy to be disappointed. That being said, with these two people involved, I am expecting this film to change my life because it will be so good. Can't get a higher expectation than that.

I'm the type of person who, when extremely excited to see a film and knowingly am going to see it no matter what people say, will opt not to watch any of the trailers so that I will be seeing everything for the first time when viewing the full film. (I'm a big movie nerd, so help me.) This is the case with There Will Be Blood.

Here is the trailer (that I haven't watched). Doesn't mean I don't want all of you to watch it and generate interest. You can also read a good article about it here:
