Getting On, Getting Around
This sensitive character portrait follows Nancy, a wonderful 97-year old lady, who lives alone.
The film explores mobility and social interaction, but from a much-neglected perspective: that of the elderly. Despite the increasing life expentancy of those in the West, and a growing aging population to outnumber the young, relatively little attention is paid in the media to 'the older generation'. This film seeks to shed some light into what may lie ahead, and inspire us with Nancy's healthy good humour. More Snakes Than Ladders? An insight into the lives of the UK's working poor.
As governments debate what to about the current economic crisis, this film explores the day-to-day reality for those workers living on a financial knife-edge.
For most people, work seems the most likely route out of poverty and exclusion. But for over five million people in the UK who prefer to work than claim benefits, and who do not have any dependent children, there continues to be the risk of poverty and social exclusion.
This sensitive film dispels myths by following academically high-achieving but debt-trapped Adele; diabetic Peter close to retirement; and church-going Jean-Louis, who, whilst working two cleaning jobs, has little time to actually eat.
Following much research these three were selected for being representative of the wider demographic of five million low-income workers (16% of the total UK workforce).
Each is a very different character, but all have one thing in common: they are more than willing to work, but wonder whether they are stuck in a spiral of disadvantage. As governments debate what to about the current economic crisis, this film explores the day-to-day reality for those workers living on... more -
Marat not Borat
When most people think of Kazakhstan, they picture Borat. Meet Marat, the ‘real’ Borat, who takes us to the rural village where he spent his childhood summers. This brief yet visually poetic film reflects Marat's own romanticisation in leaving the hectic city for the peaceful Kazakhstani countryside. When most people think of Kazakhstan, they picture Borat. Meet Marat, the ‘real’ Borat, who takes us to the rural village where he spe... more

NOTES from the FIELD
Pod producers upload your behind-the-scenes footage, tips, and bloopers for a potential pod on how wonderfully intense it is to make a pod.
I am interested in meeting pod producers and discussing their work and their stories about making media. This pitch for a pod series could function as a look at the culture of new media production, individual VCC producers, as well as a teaching and adventure series about the joys of making new media.
Another Example:

Information R/evolution by Michael Welsh, KSU
A journalism professor at my university opened my eyes to this this morning and I had trouble finding a category to put this in. Is it "ethnographic art"? Michael Welsh, an an anthropology professor at Kansas State University calls it Digital Ethnography, which makes much more sense. In Welsh's words: "This video explores the changes in the way we find, store, create, critique, and share information" A journalism professor at my university opened my eyes to this this morning and I had trouble finding a category to put this in. Is it... more
